To recap, boxes 1, 3 & 5 on the W2 will all be the same after adding in the Social Security and Medicare. We used to have to do an iterative calc on that but not anymore.

AnswerConnect is not the same as CodeConnect, it's more complete. It's also new this year, I think. If you don't have AnswerConnect, sounds like it's redirecting you to CodeConnect. All 3 products use the same login.

The answer connect mobile site looks pretty nice on my phone. (Using Firefox Android)

AnswerConnect is the top of the line product and there are 3 levels of that. I thought Max users had the lowest level included, but maybe not. Intelliconnect is the basic package and CodeConnect is mid-range. I noticed that Tax Line Research has not been updated for 2017. Maybe it died in 2016?

Form 4562 Depreciation - has ATX announced a date?
Abby Normal replied to BulldogTom's topic in General Chat
Until it's in ATX, nothing else matters. I don't need final, just draft like the 4562. -

If I could only get a draft version of 1040ES. -
Damn, I would not want to play scrabble or hangman with you! Although I do have the ultimate hangman word. Don't ask. I can't tell anyone until after I've used it on them in hangman. And it's only 3 letters!

As long as we're not mendacious.

Line 22 on Sch A is a calculated field now. If you use billing, it links to last year's bill field, or you can enter at top of Sch A.

That's what I was thinking, pay cuts for everyone, so net pay remains the same. Not sure how this would affect self-employed or those living on investment income, retirement income or rental income.

Sch A 1040 has been approved. https://support.atxinc.com/download/formdevelopmentstatus.aspx

I've used Eset NOD32 Antivirus for 20+ years with no issues (that I recall). Until they fail me, I'll never switch. They roll out program updates slowly.

I have created efiles with Sch A but have not transmitted them yet. I would assume it would not let me create the efile if Sch A was not ready.

Finding ways around new tax laws is inevitable, and fun to watch.

You get what you pay for.

One of the best beers I ever had was a loganberry beer and they put some dehydrated berries in the glass, which rode the bubbles up and fell back down to the bottom, until they rehydrated. I'm easily amused!

Interest Deduction for Rental Property Owners
Abby Normal replied to Terry D EA's topic in General Chat
From CCH analysis: A taxpayer may also elect to exclude from the [business interest] limitation any real property trade or business as defined under the passive activity rules (Code Sec. 163(j)(7)(A)(ii) and (B), as added by the 2017 Tax Cuts Act). An electing real property trade or business is any real estate development, redevelopment, construction, reconstruction, acquisition, conversion, rental, operation, management, leasing, or brokerage trade or business. Thus, interest expenses paid or accrued in the electing real property trade or business is not business interest subject to the limitation. The election is made at a time and manner as provided by the IRS. Once made, the election is irrevocable. Comment Under the passive activity rules, the way in which a taxpayer otherwise groups activities does not control the determination of the taxpayer's real property trades or businesses (Reg. §1.469-9(d)). Comment If a taxpayer elects to exclude a real property trade or business from the business interest limitation, then the business must use the alternative depreciation system (ADS) for certain property (Code Secs. 163(j)(10)(A) and 168(g)(1)(F), as added by the 2017 Tax Cuts Act). This includes any nonresidential real property, residential rental property, and qualified improvement property (¶405) held by the electing real property trade or business (Code Sec. 168(g)(8), as added by the 2017 Tax Cuts Act). -
I don't do an image. Just use computer printed name. The date is automatically on the preparer signature line. Just link that date to the EF form and the state EF form. Always mark returns complete when done. That makes the 1040 date freeze as long as it's checked.
