  1. If the new business interest expense limitation applies to rentals, there is an exception for small business with average gross receipts of $25 million or less, so I don't see how it could be a problem for most rental properties.
  2. In ATX, the MD forms are not even ready yet. I take that back, apparently MD is ready as of this morning. Either that or I needed to run a forms update last night because I couldn't create the MD 502 efile last night.
  3. The IRS processes selected returns from big preparers in order to test their systems, so there are some lucky few who get to file early. It's call the HUB program.
  4. Just posted on the official board. Delete this file: C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Local\Temp\Sfs.Cache\ZipcodeData https://community.atxinc.com/forums/permalink/254421/254614/ShowThread.aspx#254614
  5. This has been reported, but not everyone is having this problem.
  6. Actually, it's improved a lot over the years... but it still basically sucks compared to modern websites.
  7. We used to be able to enter POAs instantly on eservices, but the IRS took that away. They said it was because not enough practitioners used it. I used it. A lot. They also took away EAR account resolution which was like a dream to me. Resolve IRS notices in days rather than months. Again because not enough practitioners took advantage of it. I was totally bummed when they killed EAR.
  8. Not 'give up', verify. They already have this info.
  9. Our driver's license never changes unless we move to a new state. ATX could roll it over and just let you know it has expired.
  10. Hoo-boy. There would be some interesting responses to having a microphone on my desk recording client's answers.
  11. You can't bulk sale different kinds of property. Well, apparently you can but you really should not.
  12. A 3rd party designee will not get you into eservices transcripts. You must have a 2848 or 8821 (I've never used this form).
  13. Yes, the land and building are separate dispositions. First you have to decide how much of the sales price was for the land. Then prorate the closing costs by the same percentage. We use the most recent assessment to ballpark how much is land vs. building. We do the same when a building is purchased.
  14. CAF check failure just means your POA has not yet been processed by the IRS.
  15. The 10% brackets remained the same, just adjusted for inflation.
  16. The preparer is the one who made the mistake by not asking for the registration and invoice before adding the asset. Also, what was put down for mileage on the 4562 each year? Was personal use of vehicle calculated and added to W2s? I don't blame the customer, here.
  17. Yeah, we should be saying 'real estate investors' who had REITs added to the 20% QBI deduction at the 11th hour.
  18. The refundable portion only increased by $300 over previous law. The real people getting screwed are those who were in the 28% bracket but are now in the 32% bracket, with high SALT and high investment fees or employee business expenses. I have a pilot whose taxable income is going to increase by around 30k, due to losing deductions and personal exemptions.
  19. Imagine that! <Steps slowly back from the edge of politics.>
  20. If we have to start entering them, I'm going to make my scan searchable so I copy/paste the code in. I already make my complex clients scans searchable so I can find things easier, like when they have 6 brokerage accounts I can search for the account number.
  21. It's less glossy than last year, which makes it easier to read.
  22. This is why you should ask for a copy of the title and invoice on all vehicle purchases. AND get business/personal mileage on all vehicles every year. To make it right, you need to amend 2011-2016 to remove the vehicle and all related expenses from the corporation. They lied to to you and need to pay for their sins... plus tax and penalties.
