  1. Disable/uninstall them and see how you make out. I personally can't do without them... yet, but I have FlashBlock, Ublock Origin and Disconnect add-ons in Firefox, so no flash objects run without my permission.
  2. Sticky Notes should run at start-up automatically. Snipping tool is on my Quick Launch toolbar. Microsoft likes to tell Quick Launch is no longer available, but it's there and I have 27 programs on it. And you can drag it so it fits under the pinned icons on your task bar. You may have to make your taskbar a little taller (or wider if you have it on the side like I do.).
  3. Hey, we have each others backs in this forum! I've learned a lot hangin' with all of you.
  4. You're welcome! Never10 mostly changes a Group Policy (I bet you didn't even know you had Group Policies!) to enable 'turn off upgrade to latest version. It also makes the same change in your Registry (AllowOsUpgrade = 1 (off)). Those are things most of us might be uncomfortable doing. If you want to see your Group Policies, open up Run (Winkey+R) and type gpedit.msc. Just don't change anything!
  5. I'd say it depends on when he actually received the money. Is it a monthly benefit?
  6. I noticed when I upgraded to windows 8 that 'My Computer' was changed to 'This PC'. I think Microsoft believes they own our computers now. And who knows, I've never read the EULA. We probably agreed to let Microsoft upgrade our OS.
  7. CCHSFS is actively pursuing a virtual office/tax prep service. You can take a survey about it here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F6DVKYH
  8. Steve Gibson has been providing invaluable free services for computer users for a very long time.
  9. Where did you get a 'hacked Adobe Flash update'?
  10. You're welcome! You probably haven't downloaded the windows 10 install files to your computer, but it is perfectly safe to remove them if you have. It's just a matter of deleting a folder. It's a hidden folder in your Windows folder called $Windows.~BT. When I ran Never10 the button to remove win10 files didn't show. That's probably because they're not on my computer.
  11. Yes, that's the right place to click. Then if you have the option to run the file, do that. If the run option is not available, save the file somewhere you can find it, then double click on the file to run it. If it comes up with the green message that Windows 10 OS Upgrade is DISABLED, you're all set. Just exit the program. If you get the red message, click the disable button. It only takes a split second.
  12. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3073457/windows/how-microsofts-nasty-new-windows-10-pop-up-tricks-you-into-upgrading.html Run this (no install needed): https://www.grc.com/never10.htm Or get GWX Control Panel here: http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/
  13. Sounds good in theory. Please let us know how this works out.
  14. You could add a line on the 8949 for half the proceeds with equal basis for zero gain and call it "50% Proceeds to spouse". That will having to deal with a matching letter on the proceeds. Not sure if IRS is able to match basis yet, but in any event, will be easy to explain to IRS if they do inquire. On a side note, I hate joint investment accounts!
  15. Check the box on Sch E for final disposition.
  16. "Oh, we had a computer crash and had to start our QB file over from scratch. No, no backups either. Here's a PDF of my general ledger for that year." The IRS will also be looking for deleted invoices that might have been paid in cash.
  17. Ha ha! Yeah, that works!
  18. We use SUMo to check for updates on other software and have Flash, Java and most other programs checking for updates automatically. We don't wifi anything in our office. The thought of data being broadcast into the ether makes me nervous. We don't even allow wireless keyboards for the same reason. An IT guy I used to work with would drive around to various offices and connect to their open wifi, then go inside and show the owners how vulnerable their private data was. He got a lot of work that way.
  19. I'd be afraid the IRS would send both the extension and the check back if you used an extension form. Honestly, I'd have the client come in and use IRS Direct Pay. It will save them penalties and interest because it will post sooner.
  20. MD sends them to a bank box and the bank just slams them.
  21. That's why they're switching them to real time and releasing them as soon as they're available. I just don't want to updating every week instead of once a month, but security updates are important. We do a lot of work online.
  22. You're lucky NY sent it back. MD would have cashed the check and refused to send you a refund. One of my clients did the exact same thing several years ago. so we had a canceled check, made out to the US Treasury but MD had the money.
  23. JUST BUY SOMETHING, PLEASE!
