I encourage my clients to not take a paper copy. Viewing on a screen is in many ways superior to reading on paper.

I've had clients come to me complaining about how thick their tax return folder was from their former preparer. I rarely print more than 15 pages of a tax return. They get a PDF with with all the pages that they'll never look at or understand.

I remember the the first two digits of 7 digit phone numbers have words like Ludlow. I imagine when it went from 5 numbers to 7, this helped some remember the longer number? But we always had 7 digits numbers (Ft. Lauderdale, FL). It wasn't that long ago when we went to 10 digit dialing for local numbers. I called it 17 digit dialing because I often called the 7 digit number, got the error message then dialed the 10 digit number. I don't often dial numbers these days. Never on cell, and on the office phones I can call back any number on the caller ID.

You're either older than me or you lived in the boonies, because I never had to do any of that. But I saw them do it on Green Acres and The Andy Griffith show!

We could scan them and deposit them electronically, and we may someday, but for now, we actually do just deposit them... on an electronically created deposit slip.

I email a copy of the return for their review, if I'm emailing 8879. If they're picking up their return, they look it over in the lobby or tell us to hold off transmitting until they get home to review it, but they usually sign the 8879 while they're here.

Yeah, but I'm also old enough to almost forget. I stopped keeping a checkbook back in the 90s and the closest I have to it now is a QuickBooks check register. I realized that if I didn't keep a checkbook then I didn't have to reconcile it every month. Cross it off the list!

Congrats! I was so looking forward to having them all filled out this year but the IRS relented and let the colleges off the hook. Still, I worry that the colleges will get the number right. One 1098-T I received a few years ago, had an account transcript on the back! I thought to myself, this college gets it!

So, I was selfish and did my own return on Friday. First time in 20 years I'm filing on time. Just checked my bank account to see if the state refund was there yet and it was but the federal refund is scheduled for this Friday! You can't beat 7 days on a federal refund.

Do they really still make NCR paper. That stuff will get you high... or so I've heard.
