My clients must be less computer literate than some of yours because I only seem to have about a 50/50 chance my clients are able to download their document from Virtru. I am considering using Zix but it would cost me about $20/mo to have it on two computers.

and when exactly will we be able to efile 1040s?
Abby Normal replied to schirallicpa's topic in E-File
We can create 1040 efiles now. Just not many states available yet. Start your engines! Vroom-vroom. -

Abby Normal replied to schirallicpa's topic in E-File
I tried to create an efile for a 1040 with just a W2 and EIC and ATX says the forms aren't ready, but it doesn't say which forms and ATX's website is useless for seeing which forms are not ready to efile. -
She is acting as an agent of the LLC/S corp. In this case, the only reasonable salary is 100% of the net profit of the S corp, unless she can provide a good reason for the S corp retaining cash. But if she's distributing all the cash, she's just evading SE tax.

My forward/back mouse buttons work in ATX!

I converted my Num Lock to a Tab key so I can tab from line to line if the Enter key doesn't move to the next line. -

I hate cordless mice but they do make left handed mice: http://support.logitech.com/en_us/product/mx610-lefthand-laser-cordless-mouse -
My forward/back mouse buttons work in ATX!
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
I've spent the past 15 years doing my damnedest to become ambidextrous. I've made good progress. It teaches patience too, which I certainly need. -
I have this mouse and use the heck out of the forward/back buttons on the internet. And I always try them in ATX until I remember I have to do Ctrl+B to go back and click the forward button to go forward. But this year the mouse buttons work! Great time/aggravation saver. If you have a cheapo mouse, you might want to consider this upgrade.

They added a new checkbox on both create and print marked organizers to force the letters to be added, even if you had previously discarded them. You would think setting the preference to add the letter would be enough, but you'd be wrong.

But now you can split the refund into two accounts. But still that's only if filing a joint return.
-
It sounds like a good idea. I look forward to testing it someday.

I may have found a workaround. Print the W2s to a PDF in QuickBooks. Use a conversion tool (I use Nuance PowerPDF Standard) to convert to a Form in Word. Print from Word to your Microsoft XPS Document Writer. Now, I don't have ATX Payroll installed so I can't test the final step of importing into ATX. There are probably other PDF converters out there but you can get a free 30 trial of PowerPDF Advanced version.

New Due Date for FBARs The new annual due date for filing Reports of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR) for foreign financial accounts is April 15. This date change was mandated by the Surface Transportation and Veterans Health Care Choice Improvement Act of 2015, Public Law 114-41(the Act). Specifically, section 2006(b)(11) of the Act changes the FBAR due date to April 15 to coincide with the Federal income tax filing season. The Act also mandates a maximum six-month extension of the filing deadline. To implement the statute with minimal burden to the public and FinCEN, FinCEN will grant filers failing to meet the FBAR annual due date of April 15 an automatic extension to October 15 each year. Accordingly, specific requests for this extension are not required. (Please note: The due date for FBAR filings for foreign financial accounts maintained during calendar year 2016 is April 18, 2017, consistent with the Federal income tax due date.)

We're very happy with CrashPlan Pro but idrive looks good too.

We do efile W2s right from QuickBooks, but apparently a lot of people use XPS format to export from QB and into ATX Payroll and other programs. We use Enhanced Payroll. Google QuickBooks W2 Printer Setup grayed out You can't select your printer in QuickBooks. You have to print to their PDF printer, and QuickBooks uses a weird PDF printer that doesn't allow exporting to XPS from their PDF. It's all a sham on Intuit's part to get everyone to buy enhanced payroll.
-
Nope. The whole country is ranting at Intuit over this. I keep updating QB hoping it gets fixed. I think Intuit is hoping people will switch to their products over this.

I was sitting in line at the bank drive-up one Friday (with dozen of others) and it hit me how ludicrous it was to drive across town with a piece of paper to have a person data enter that document into their computer so money could be moved from the company's account to my account. I gladly pay the DD fees every payroll.

It was originally supposed to be a refund of Social Security and Medicare taxes, but it's grown beyond that. It's really a subsidy to the businesses that do not pay a living wage for those who work full-time.
-
Just because the 90 days for tax court has expired, doesn't mean you can't file an amended return or ask the IRS to make changes.
-
I called mine Blank Template and search for either word to find it. I only search for returns. It's the fastest way.
-
Putting things into layman's terms is sometimes difficult, especially the complex vehicle rules.
-
Yes, you should open your template return occasionally, so the forms update. I just rolled mine over and half the forms aren't even available yet.
-
Yeah, this guy has commuting miles at the very least.
-
If you get paid the federal maximum mileage rate it is not taxable because it is considered to be a reimbursement. That's what I was trying to convey.
-
You didn't say if he gets the full standard mileage rate, but if he does, that might exceed his actual expenses. But the excess reimbursement does not generate income.
