It's just that time of our lives. All the greats from the 60s & 70s will be leaving us soon. I was a big Alice Cooper fan before I was a David Bowie fan. I like offbeat, can you tell? We have many more of these days ahead with Jagger, Eric Clapton, Ozzy Osborne, Alice Cooper, Paul McCartney, Roger Daltry, John Kay (Steppenwolf), Ian Anderson, everyone in Blue Oyster Cult, etc., etc.

You don't have complete control over the print order and sometimes ATX just screws up. You can rearrange forms in Print Packets, but even in Print Packets there are sections that can't be violated.

Agreed. I know forms change sometimes but even if they could get most of the customizing to rollover, it would save me a lot of time.

There's a print preference: "Print Federal Attachments for" that you can uncheck. Do you use Print Packets? It's not easy but it can be done with that.

Yes this seems like an accountable plan issue. Should be wages. You could put it on Sch E to avoid getting a matching notice, back it out and put it on line 21. It's probably not a huge amount, right?

I have a two page list of form customization that I add to frequently. Keep a shortcut on the desktop. Spent at least an hour making all my customizations this year. Had to put some on hold until ATX had the forms ready.

Was working on one of my workstations and got the server error in the middle of a return. Just pressed enter and everything was fine. This is just a cheap (<$500) ASUS I bought as an input workstation. We use online backup and remote access, both inbound and outbound, a lot, so we have a ton of network traffic, and do experience traffic jams where web pages won't load, but I checked with my power users and they have not had the server error once. But I just wanted to report that I have seen the error. There was a loud 'boop' when it happened, so it wouldn't matter if it had popped under, I still knew something had occurred. Maybe you can find out which window sound is played when this error occurs and change it to a recording of Jack yelling "DAMMIT ATX!" I know, it's not funny, but if there was a distinct sound, preparers would know what has happened even if they don't see the error.

Oh, so it's an Accuwage problem. I don't use that. I'd just do paper forms.

According to a recent Microsoft news post, new computers running on Intel’s Skylake processor might not have the necessary drivers to support Windows 7. On Jan. 15, MS executive VP Terry Myerson posted a clarification on the future of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 support. Based on Microsoft’s published life-cycle information, Win7 is now in “extended support,” which should mean no new features but “security, reliability, and compatibility” updates until Jan. 14, 2020 (and Jan. 10, 2023, for Win8.1). Now, Microsoft has narrowed the definition of compatibility. According to the post, “Redesigning Windows 7 subsystems to embrace new generations of silicon would introduce churn into the Windows 7 code base, and would break this commitment.” The post goes on to state: “Going forward, as new silicon generations are introduced, they will require the latest Windows platform at that time for support. This enables us to focus on deep integration between Windows and the silicon, while maintaining maximum reliability and compatibility with previous generations of platform and silicon.” In other words, only Windows 10 will support new chipsets from Intel (Kaby Lake; more info), AMD (Bristol Ridge), and others. Moreover, through July 17, 2017, only selected Win7 systems with Intel’s Skylake will be supported — mostly to give users time to upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft stated it’ll soon publish a list of those supported systems. The post continues: “After July 2017, the most critical Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 security updates will be addressed for these configurations and will be released if the update does not risk the reliability or compatibility of the Windows 7/8.1 platform on other devices.”

We either buy our 1099s from Tenenz or Quill. Never had any compatibility problems. They should all be to IRS specs.

Late to the party, but I never sausage a thing.

Most stock desktops use on board video to keep prices down, but installing a video card bypasses the on board video, anyway.

Go to Staples and buy the forms? Ask a local EA/CPA if he can buy/beg/borrow a couple?

We efile W2s right from QuickBooks just by clicking a button. Intuit charges a fee to efile 1099s, so we just mail those in... for now.

It doesn't make sense in our operation to use a separate program for payroll, even if it somehow imports into QuickBooks.

I haven't been on hold lately but an IRS agent told me they changed from Nutcracker to 'smooth jazz'.
