I sure don't want paper. I print/scan everything (taxes, bills, orders, receipts, etc.) to PDF and make sure my drive is backed up, both at home and at work. We just threw out all of out filing cabinets at work and reclaimed the file room as a work room.

I push for digital copy only every year but on a small percentage take it. So I print maybe 25 pages out of 100 page return and include a CD with the return and records for every year they've been a client.

The right registry hacks can really improve the user experience... well, for a computer nerd like me, anyway. Or you can use a tool like Ultimate Windows Tweaker to make the hacks for you. It has an option to backup the registry and create a restore point.

ATX isn't putting multiple schedules on one page?! I was hoping they'd give an option to print both 1040 pages on one page. This is really going to suck, isn't it?

Ha ha! I've been editing my registry for a long time without making a backup, with no problems, but it's hard to argue against a backup and a system restore point... just in case.

What do the Regulations say? This ain't good. They are sticking it to us. The regulations require that every business be able to separately establish that it rises to the level of a Section 162 trade or business, and that means big problems for landlords. There's not even a carve-out for real estate professionals under Section 469(c)(7), meaning even those who truly ply their trade in the rental real estate world will have to establish that the rentals satisfy the nebulous Section 162 standard. The regulations provide only one exception, found at Reg. Have any of you tried this or had support try it for you? Advanced instructions for the "attempt was made to start the server process..." and "could not connect to the server" Only attempt if you are tech literate. Use at your own risk. I'm not responsible if your computer gets messed up! Open regedit. Navigate to the key “Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\CCH Small Firm Services\ATX\20yy” Change the “Network” string from “0” to “2”. Navigate to “Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CCH Small Firm Services\ATX\20yy” Modify the “NetworkPath” string so that the “localhost” portion (https://localhost:60658/admin/endpoints) is your computer name. Leave everything else the same. Restart the service for 20yy in the Windows services manager. Obviously, 'yy' is replaced by the year you're working on.

Normal rental does not count for QBI. I remember reading that earlier this year.

Your guru must be older. We cloned all of our hard drives to SSDs with no problems. Well, a lot of programs like QuickBooks detected the hardware change and ask us to re-register, but that wasn't so bad. It used to be that windows got 'arthritis' and it was often better to start fresh and reinstall, but that hasn't been a problem for awhile.

One of my clients is looking to expand into Canada and needs to consult with someone experienced in all aspects of that. Let me know if you're interested.

I tend to buy the fastest computer with other high end components because computers slow down over time and I don't want to be frustrated by the inevitable slow downs. My computer is 6 years old this month and still going strong. I replaced the C drive with an SSD a few years back and I've replaced the CPU cooler and the graphics card, but the rest is original.

I've worked with a lot of people like that. Some of them miss several days after every snow. They're scared to death to drive if there's any snow on any part of the road. Driving on snow and ice is not taught in drivers ed, so you have to learn how to do it on your own.

250 GB is pretty small for OS and programs. I have a 500 GB SSD which formats to about 476 GB and I have about 309 GB free with 10 years of ATX, QuickBooks and everything else. This year I moved all my ATX backups for 2012-2017 to my D drive. Total was about 19 GB. I left the data on my C drive.

Does it print on plain paper or do you need to buy forms?

Yes, in the rollover screen there are checkboxes to the right where you can rollover many things.

That is not a VPN. That is Windows Remote Access. A VPN is a remote drive that just has the data on it. You use QB locally and access the remote drive just like any other drive on your network except it goes over the internet.

I never see the CAPTCHAs when logging in. Your browser might be clearing your cookies and saved logins. The new two-factor login is a new cookie from cchaxcess.com. I don't find this type of two-factor security very secure. I prefer the ones that text my phone. I will likely turn this off.
