Welcome Home Eli.........

You Think???????? I am hoping that this will only be for preparers who have never e-filed before. I agree with MAS; they shouldn't have changed.
-
Absolutely!!! I forgot to mention the all-important external hard drive and jump drives for backup, backup and backup! Also, it goes without saying, the sources that this board adds to all of our lives, for all of the reasons that Lion mentioned. This board is, by far, our most valuable tool.

All of the above.; except that I don't use multiple moniters. However, this year I will be using two computers so I don't have to shut down the client I am working on when another client calls with a question. Also, since I work alone in a home office, I have a security camera mounted on the wall where all can see it. (Just in case). I have many reference books on the floor beside my desk. I make and keep appointments in a plain old paper Monthly Planner and have learned to write with pencil instead of pen. When they show up, I highlight the entry. Have the ringer shut off on my office phone, because I can hear it ringing in the kitchen and that is where the answering machine will pick up if I am with a client. This is probably one of the worse issues of working alone. I keep a card file with 4 x 6 cards in alphabetical order with all pertinent info for each family that comes in. On the card, I have DOBs, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and anything else that I might want or need to know quickly. When the client comes in, I turn the card up on its side. When they are done and paid, the card goes back down. Two years ago, we installed a locked drop box near the entry door to the house. This has been a tremendous extra pair of hands for me. Not only can they drop things when I am with another client or gone; but I can open a door at the front which has a large clip inside and leave things for them if I have to be gone. This is just a glorified mailbox. The rest of the general mess that I have, has evolved over the course of many years.

Happy Birthday Eric; have many, many more. Thank you so much for what you do for us.

I didn't think that anyone was "pointing fingers". Obviously, there were some errors in shipment of disks. I, personally, was surprised to see the User Guide this year. I believe one person did state that their envelope had gotten torn in transit. I loaded mine last night without a problem. As I said, the possible need for the second disk was clarified on both the ATX HOme Page and the ATX Community Forum. I would think that they would get out replacement disks asap to those who didn't receive them. I believe there are issues every year with disks that are warped or won't install correctly. This is very early to have anything at all.

Am not surprised and was going to say that it might be a makeup check. I have clients who continue to work even though drawing SS. Because they (particularly women who stayed home to raise their children) had many low or no income years. Every year in Oct or Nov, they receive a letter telling them of their increased benefits. Somehow this one fell through the cracks. Am glad they caught it now.

I did receive an e-mail from them. Also, the instructions were posted on the MyATX website, to which Eric has so kindly provided a link above. Why is everyone in such a hurry to find fault.? We all know that many of the tax laws are not even finalized yet. How could we expect to have other than "Draft" forms.?

I'm wondering if George is talking about registering to e-file. I used to have a list of states that required permission to e-file. I know that CA was one and MI was another because I have papers for both in my files.
-
Let's all hope that is true. My dad was 92 and his mind was sharper than mine. My Grandma was 96 and Grandpa was 93. Good genes are good if they don't contain dementia.
-
Wow! Thanks for the lesson. Never too old to learn something new. My Mom was still saying that at age 90.

Put pictures on this board. My awesome (so far) 2003 computer doesn't even have an SD slot and I think that is a requirement. My son did my license plate via my laptop.
-
This is irrelevant, but just digging through some old papers; I got my EFIN on Nov 6, 1998. In those days, had to pay $10 and $5 to e-file Federal and State. We have come SUCH a long way!

Very Nice and How Unique! I am with Margaret....maybe someday I will take the time to figure out how to do that too.

Yes, there will be interest and penalties. The interest should stop accruing the day that you respond to the notice; ie; file the amended return. You possibly will be able to get the penalty abated, but not the interest. I always let the IRS do the calculations of the interest. If you look at the CP notice, it should say that the amount of interest is figured up to a certain date, by which time you should be responding to the notice. Hope this helps.

Funny! I had to get a license to sell cars in the 70's and it is still active. My husband, and now our boys, are still in the same business at the same location. Guess who does their accounting and taxes!

Call the IRS toll free at 866-255-0654 to request a fingerprint card for any principal or responsible official who is not an attorney, certified public accountant or enrolled agent and Get fingerprinted by a trained professional at your local police station or at a company that provides this service;
-
I had no problem with the fingerprinting either. It is so long ago now that I hardly remember. Yes, the inconvenience was the biggest issue. I remember my husband taking me to the police station on one of the coldest days of the year. Good luck to all of you new e-filers.
-
If you are a CPA, I don't believe that you have to submit fingerprints.
-
They are all numbers........no letters. If you have access to IRS's E-services for Tax Professionals, you should be able to find it there. OR..try calling 866-704-7388 which is the E-filing help number.

There are two tax organizers for 2010 included in the 2009 ATX tax program. One is quite complex and the other is a stripped down version, which many of us prefer.; depending on the depth of the clien's tax return. Both include a cover letter or you can build your own. I have been quite happy with the ATX Organizer for many years; except for the (2)? when they did not include the basic one. I have learned to pick and choose the pages that I want for the client concerned. To find the organizer, go to the client, go to forms and type in Org. Or, you can access it from the Program Manager and automatically print organizers for all selected clients.

I add my thanks to all of yours.......most of us have so much; family, friends, this forum; and all of us have "jobs" to some extent. Have a wonderful day all.

After two days of tax classes, the subject is indeed murky. The general consensus is that it "probably" will be repealed before it goes into effect. However, it is law at the moment. Of more immediate concern to us are whether any of the elapsed credits will be reinstated before filing season; which is fast approaching. The "DRAFT" forms that we saw have lines deliberately left blank "just in case". We can quite likely expect a late start to filing due to lack of form approval; due to uncertainty over legislation. Get Ready!

Congrats Tom....I looked at the clips. This is certainly a lot more important than which way the paper should unroll. I am a football fan and also a fan of kids who participate in sports.

Not! I am left handed and it is from the front for both at our house.
