The IRS agent who spoke at the seminar that I attended; said the same thing.

Mom was right. The written and spoken word can be misconstrued easily. I have had occasions to edit a post (as in correcting) Otherwise, if I said it; I think I have to own up to having said it. In most cases, the post will be long gone in a couple of days. If not, own up or have big enough shoulders to accept criticism. IMO

No, I will always check the box. However, this year, they are saying that we will have very limited contact resources as well. I do accept responsibility for having prepared the return and checking the box has made explanations much smoother many times.

Wisconsin has a new credit for tuition paid to private schools; Kindergarten on up.

When e-filing first started, I had to pay a fee (I believe $10 for Fed and $5 for state) to Nelco to file through them. I was not able to get anyone to opt for that extra fee. I remember filing filing myself and immediate family electronically; just so I could keep my EFIN. Things have changed dramatically and I agree with the posters that say that it costs us much less to e-file than to file a paper return. That would be in both time and resources. I never charge for e-filing.

I'm not saying that it is true. I am saying that if I heard it; so did millions of other taxpayers who will want their taxes done before the IRS runs out of money. It was a clear statement that the IRS was short of funds and that Congress certainly would not allot them more money. Now, you all know how filers are going to take a statement like that and run with it. I looked at my husband and said, "As if things aren't bad enough, they have to go and issue a statement like that!" Some of the things they talked about, we already knew such as the fact that very few people would actually be able to contact a real person to talk to this year. They told us months ago that even we would not be able to get much, if any, telephone assistance this year. Some things are better left untold. I am not going to worry about it either; we can only do as much as we can do. Since my letters went out, my Feb appointments are filling up fast. I can only prepare an accurate tax return if I take time to research and check. Happily, my new assistant is really enthused about getting started.

There was an announcement this AM on National TV that ALL refunds will be delayed due to lack of funds; as well as personnel. Of course, we all knew about the cutbacks in employees, but the refunds announcement will cause a furor. Especially when the commercials interspersed with the news are already saying "Spend your Tax Refund Here!" The next three months just keep on looking worse.

And, probably, if that is the case, many of us will volunteer to prepare the return pro bono.

Download program from web site onto new computer. On old computer export all files to a jump drive. On new computer, import all files into program.

I actually got all the bookkeeping done for my husband's 1065; all reports printed and can start working on it when the phone isn't ringing. I am not liking this already. Forgot about all the interruptions. I'm with Deb; not ready and thinking it will be a long season. New clients calling to reserve a spot right along with the old. Consultation first thing this AM. Client is now going to set up payroll (as she should) but has been paying her subs WAY too much to the point of having little to nothing left for herself. Yippee!!!! I truly don't have time for this. I am leaning more toward lemon bars than chocolate. Will send my chocolate to Judy (before hubby eats it).

We've been having it for the last two weeks and it is getting old. Last year and this year were not the norm for us. Hate IT! But, am sure the Southern States that are getting hit hard, hate it way more than I do, because we are prepared.

I had the feeling all along that Pacun knew the answer and was testing us. However, I did try to find proof for the answer. Thanks Judy for supplying that for all of us.

I live in the heart of the paper industry, which is fast falling apart. Our second home is in the Nicolet National Forest, where we practice proper rules of reforestation. Trees die and need to be cut to make room for new growth. Also, the Dept of Natural Resources has set rules for cutting and replanting for the betterment of all. We practice wildlife protection and feeding as well as the development of future forest growth. We cut trails and nurture the growth of wild berries and plants that would otherwise smother and die. All sorts of trial and error tests are being performed in our National Forests to find the best ways to protect and nurture the growth of trees. Dead and some mature trees are removed and used for firewood and lumber. Irresponsibility crippled many of our native forests; but proper practices are bringing them back. I never waste paper and always print receipts and other personal things on the backsides of pages that would otherwise have been shredded. I appreciate the fact that certain persons choose to be paperless. I just don't happen to be one of them. I don't like reading a book on a tablet either. I want the paper in my hands. Truly, I am old school.

I always check Amazon as well as EBay before I purchase. Since I don't have Prime, I can't always get free shipping on Amazon. I paid $16.63 on EBay, but you really have to check around. There is always such a wide range of prices. But, yes, before Christmas I stocked up on all of the office supplies that I thought I might need; and all online except for two cases of paper at Office Depot, when they were running a spectacular deal. Yesterday, I made an offer for a laser printer that I wanted for backup and got $28 off plus free shipping. So, you just never know. The other side of the card is accumulating EBay and/or Amazon points to spend on merchandise. Saves me from running around in sub zero weather.

I really didn't notice that, but I always got individual and business volumes too. This year I opted for The Tax Book because they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. Am not sure, though, that I like all entities in one book as it is in the Deluxe Edition Plus. I will just have to get used to it.

Was doing four years in arrears for a client last year. I had the transcripts from the IRS. 2011 showed a 1099-R distribution of 30,000. He SWORE that he never withdrew that much money. Had me do the other three years and go back to 2011 after he did some investigating. Said it had to be a mistake that his broker had made. Guess what! In the end, there it was plainly deposited into his checking account in 2011. I hope he stays current this year because he didn't come out of that as badly as he expected.

It is also a requirement in WI. However the ATX e-filing module does allow you to create the quarterlies on the State payment or refund page. I had several last year who took advantage of both Federal and State.

I read that this morning. I was surprised that it didn't appear on the board until now. I am reserving comment as I have already jumped through all the hoops and landed on my head at least once.

I got mine on Ebay. That was the best price I found. However, we don't have a Staples and I don't have a coupon.

This year, I made a complete change from Quickfinder (which I really liked) to the Tax Book (which, we shall see). Then, when I found out there was not going to be a paper Pub 17, I ordered the J K Lasser's book (which I used for years exclusively when I started out). I also rely heavily on the US Masters Tax Guide (as the final word) which is included in the Max package. I really liked the 1040 Express Answers; but that was no longer included in the package last year. I am a person who wants paper in her hands. I don't like looking answers up online; particularly when the client is sitting on the other side of the desk. They like it when I grab a book from the floor; find the answer and show it to them. They also like it that I have more than one source of reference.

At the incomes that you and Jack are talking about; my business will never be mature so I will stay an LLC for now and forever. Realistically, if I were making $100,000 a year, it wouldn't bother me one bit to pay the taxes. However, that is never going to happen.
