I am pretty sure that you either use it or lose it. I would file the returns so that you have a pattern of continuity.

What do Clients do to these Forms before bringing them to us???
mcb39 replied to jasdlm's topic in General Chat
I have the same two every year that bring me envelopes with dividend checks in them. -
As Jack knows, I did the addition to the home last year and have never looked back or regretted it. Planned correctly, it can be a very attractive addition to where you live and will be adaptable to anyone else's needs. In other words, it does not look like an office until you get inside. I added on to the existing office which was actually an existing bedroom. The zoning commission was very cooperative. My office is designed so that it can be used by anyone for anything. Instead of paying rent, I am building equity and have OIH deductions.

NT - this year its the tax season 20 instead of the tax season 10

Steve just might be right! We have to keep water running at all times to prevent frozen lines. Is turning bathroom sink orange. I had a chance to go out to eat today, but as I said Sundays are the best day to get constructive work done. It is so quiet around here. Actually, we did get to Menards right after they opened as they had peaches for 50 cents a can. We can now live on peaches this week. -
Don't you still have to add it to the adjustments for the Homestead Credit? It seems to me that the deduction cannot be taken against Homestead Income. (You are right, it is too dangerous to think. I just finished my husband's Partnership and am brain dead).

I had that same 1099 covered with orange stuff, but no identifying note. And why do they open them and put everything back into the envelopes.? Year after year, they see me throwing the envelopes in the waste basket and they learn nothing. -

I have clothes baskets sitting around in every stage of needing to be washed, just washed, need to hang in basement, need to put in dryer, need to empty dryer to make room for more, need to fold and (never get put away). Food is optional at best. Hampers are running over in spite of the above. We just ran out of buy one, get one free coupons at Denny's so those quick lunches will end. A family funeral next Saturday will put a big crimp in things, but I don't think the deceased did it on purpose. Didn't even get beyond sweats today. Sunday's are the best day to get work done. I even called one client to come down and pick his up. He doesn't live far and I needed signature so he came right down, signed and brought cash. Still have appointments all this week. As I said before, I started to turn new clients away on Friday unless they were willing to go on extension. Ah, life is good. -
The education credit worksheet is very much like it was last year. That was when I hated it. The Home Office was a mystery the first time or two, but finally got that figured out. All in all, taking the bad with the good; the good far outweighs. Standalone, Win 7 Pro 64 bit, 16 G Ram.

I have never cared for AOL, but I have had zero issues with ATX this year and not many last year. I DO have issues with how I am going to finish all of the returns that are sitting around in various boxes in my office.
-
None of the clients need to know that. A great many of them are impressed with that page. It generally relieves them from having to read the rest of the tax return, which they don't usually understand anyway.
-
I had one yesterday that was under $600 for MFJ. ATX automatically opened the 1116. I deleted it and then the tax was reported properly. (I think)........

I had a client come in today with zilch for bookkeeping. Everything in folders according to job. He pulled out one job and had paid $167,000 to sub-contractors. I asked if he had sent them 1099s. He looked at me like I was from another world. I said "You received 1099s, didn't you ever think that you might have to send some? Also, what happened to the promise that you would bring your bookkeeping in every month so we would be ahead of the game?" He said, "I dropped the ball!" He will be an extension for sure if I ever get around to even doing it, I am that upset! What would the rest of you do about the 1099s? This has been a terrible day after working all weekend. Everyone who got called today to come in and sigh and pick up and, yes, pay..........had some dumb excuse to put it off until next week. And, I am still steaming about the ones who said they waited to call until they knew I wouldn't be so busy. I would like to procrastinate myself right to bed.

In WI, I can report it on the Sch E because of Community Property. Probably depends on your state.

NT / You know those people who don't set up voice mail?
mcb39 replied to RitaB's topic in General Chat
Did you run out of "Likes" again. Seems to me that you are cheating, but then you write your own commandments, so who can tell? -
First of all, is it an LLC Partnership or an LLC sole proprietor? If a sole proprietor, doesn't it stay on the Sch E as part of the 1040 return. I have one with a husband/wife LLC owning the rentals and that is the way that I report it and have for years.

My husband doesn't have voice mail either and wouldn't know how to use it if he did. I don't do texting either, but e-mailing works for my young clients. My cell phone was just ringing while I was on the land line with another client. Yes, voice mail was left. I am amazed to find out how many people know that tomorrow is April 1 and keep telling me that they waited so they wouldn't be bothering me while I was busy. How much busier can I get than I am right now. I will never understand the human race. Never!!!! -
Of course it counts, plus you will have a clear head and be able to prepare a few extra tax returns while the others have a buzz on. Laughter is also good for the soul and it doesn't hurt when it comes to preparing tax returns.

Happens every once in a while. I do lots of appointments; then sometimes have the folks drop in for pickups or something else when I am with a client and it always happens when my assistant isn't there. Friday, two dropped in at once, but the client in the chair didn't really have an appt either; so just asked her to have a chair in the other half of the office while I took care of the picker uppers, who I was expecting. Yes, I think they admire the fact that you are "sometimes" very busy and hopefully it indicates to them that you might be doing something right. In the midst of the chaos, my son walked in with a contract from the car lot for me to take care of. He said "Hi" to everyone and made a hasty exit. He gets to enter and escape through the house.
-
Yes, that is where it is. Almost always way at the bottom of the (sometimes) long, long list of forms. I am not a "happy" tax preparer today. Will try to be a nicer person tomorrow.

That's it in a nutshell. Today must be the day for icky returns. It took me most of the day to finish one and haven't even rechecked it yet. I created the situation myself because we came to the retreat for the weekend and I only brought difficult returns along. Not so gosh awful difficult like the one that went out yesterday with seven states; but something on almost every line, two Sch C, I had papers everywhere. This gal is really organized too, just so much stuff. (foreign exchange students, tuition credits, two homes in two cities with an office in each along with W2. Tomorrow when I get home, I get to wade through it all again, but after a short nap with my headache, I am about to dive into a new (from HRB) client with lots of investment stuff. YES, sometimes I do procrastinate on the messier ones, but it is getting too close to the deadline to dawdle and , oh what a relief when one of those gets wrapped up.

Isn't it an option on the bottom of the open 4562?

Thanks crew. I did a search and found the answer. It was getting mighty annoying.

TROUBLE with UPDATE!! Now I figured it out!!
mcb39 replied to Jack from Ohio's topic in General Chat
I have always updated through the program, no matter what anyone said. I download to the desktop with the program closed. Install the update and then reboot. Open the program. I have not had an issue with any of the updates, including the last two.
