Gosh, I had forgotten that one! Mrs Rogers drew a horrifying picture of the second sentence, with grandma on a plate, apple in her mouth, about to be carved up! I suspect I actually wanted to forget that one!

Congratulations and we will pray for his safety and success. A teenager with a goal that he/she set for themselves is always going to turn out better than average, that is for sure. I wish more parents understood that. Clearly, you did good, Mom.

AR franchise tax for an LLC is $150 It's just a cost of her deciding to use an LLC for her business. I expect that insurance would have been about the same cost, with more protection. But it's not your fault she did set it up this way, so don't take on the blame for the bad news you have to deliver.

NT-Political (and Partisan) But Still Good for A Laugh

I like it. -
And in the early 90s I was told during an audit that they would write it up as a no change if the adjustment was under $50.

Thank you, my darling friends. I really, really, really appreciate all your good thoughts coming my way. I'm trying to arrange enough time to at least get my hair cut this week. It's just not that simple when you live out in the country like we do. Just going to shop at the grocery store means being gone an hour or two. Actually taking off for something for me seems to be beyond me right now. At least I have gotten the time for the beauty shop this week. I'm not vain, but I really do like my hair short enough not to bother me and curly enough not to scare anyone I see. LOL

Love it.

Joan, that would surely depend on how many kids you had, and what ages? I had only a few CA clients, but they were all in the computer industry, and all made around that much. However, only one of them was 'fine', the rest had comfortable but not excessive homes, and the cost of their kids and school, etc made them always 'on the edge' due to the high taxes, huge gas prices, etc. No, they were not 'hurting', but neither were they anywhere close to 'rich'. Now here in AR, that kind of salary would for sure put you in the 'fine' category. :D

Now the IRS has the computing ability to match these up themselves, so they no longer ask that they be sent in, as it's just more paper for them to deal with. I would not worry about it, if there is an issue it is the employee's problem not yours. Unless you know for a fact that the amount is wrong, which is almost impossible, don't dwell on it. Sometimes the reason for the large number is something the employee does not want to discuss with you, like big loss carryovers, medical bills, etc. Don't let it be an issue, it's not your job to be their 'Daddy' anyway .

I fixed that for you, so Max will feel better when he sees it next. I too tend to be a bit of a 'grammar police' person myself. The result of a wonderful, but extremely strict, teacher in high school, I expect. Mrs Rogers was a tiny little woman, who could with one look make the biggest football jock swallow his gum without a moments hesitation. And she drilled us on proper use of the English language in ways that made all her students use better grammar all the time. She was a good artist, so used pictures to help us understand. I can still see her drawing of the phrase 'the old man was sweeping the floor with a long white beard". I still move a descriptive phrase when it is misplaced, just because of that one example. So things like that topic heading just grate on me. It's not a big deal, but if you look at an old post and suddenly notice that some typo or split infinitive has been corrected, it's probably because I read it. :P

Real intersting discussion about the use of timesheets. Timesheet SMACKDOWN

I love you, Jack, but I still think your position on this one is silly. It benefits not only the client and the preparer, it also benefits the IRS when we efile a return, and I do not consider it a lie at all, since everybody has normally had, over a year's time, some 'unreported income' of at least a dollar. Like the quarter I found on the ground next the the gas pump last time I filled up, the nickle I found in the change slot of the vending machine at the hospital last week, along with my own quarter in change, etc. And yes, there is a big difference in $1 and $100, because one makes no difference to the taxes and the other probably does. But I don't see it as any difference than the issue of amending a return for a late arriving 1099. The IRS says clearly that you should NOT file a 1040X that makes no change to the amount owed or refunded, unless it involves some other significant item. And when doing an audit, they will write up as a 'no-change' any audit where the changes they did find did not change the bottom line more than $50, where there are no other issues that might affect a past or future return.

And in one form or another, that letter is going out to a lot of kids these days. Maybe not as a letter, email is cheaper and easier if Gramps already has a computer. You can bet the kids do, although few of them bought it themselves, with money that they earned. And with the money taken from SS to give more to "the poor", there will be more next year. Funny, isn't it, that SS is called an 'entitlement' and so is 'welfare' and 'food stamps', but we had to pay into SS all our working lives?

Well the good thing is that without my help he can not get up to grab the chair. The bad thing is that without my help he can not get up. Keep praying please.
-
Had to call them again today, so that chair is going out of the room entirely for now!!!!! No close neighbors, unfortunately.

I agree, Tom. The cloud may be great for a lot of things, but tax data is so sensitive, and so valuable to those who would like to steal your data, that it just makes my skin crawl to think of it floating out there.

Finally got home late afternoon yesterday. Wonderful to be able to sleep in a real bed, although I now have to clean out the fridge, as everything in it is a month old. HOWEVER, just had to call 911 for some strong men to lift him off the floor after he tried to move from the recliner to the wheelchair without my help, and ended up sliding out on to the floor. My love is nothing if not stubborn, and he thought since he got from the bed to the wheelchair alone, he could do it again. But while I had placed his chair carefully by the bed, to get him into the bed, and not moved it [my mistake] he was able to do that. But he then moved from the wheelchair to the recliner a bit awkwardly, and so his chair was a bit too far away when he decided that he did not need to call me from the kitchen to get back into the chair. By the time I knew he was in trouble, he had slid too far for little old me to be able to get him back up. He's unhurt, but embarrassed. And I've moved the chair across the room from the bed, now that I have him back in it.

Well, we finally got home late afternoon yesterday. Thank God and thank all of you wonderful friends who's prayers and kind words helped me get through that full month of hospital time. Doctor expects him to need the catheter for at least a month, if not permanently, so leaving him alone is going to be impossible. But it's still wonderful to be home.

I've found that the worst thing about Turbo Tax is that when they answer a question, and see the little box with the refund change to go down, often they go back and answer it the other way, to see it go back up. Since they really did not understand the point of the question in the first place, naturally they stick with the answer that gives the best outcome. Usually I honestly think they were not deliberately trying to cheat, they just don't understand the tax law behind the question.

It was a UTI, so we are still here in the hospital, getting antibiotics by IV. Hope to go home Monday.

Sure, we all have those types. But we also have the folks who start a business and buy equipment, etc but take no depreciation "because I did not know what that was" and took no mileage "because I did not keep the gas receipts" even tho they did keep a mileage log. And the ones who did not claim their child "because he turned 18 this year" even tho he was still in school and had no income except the $2000 he earned on his summer part-time job. Etc.
