  1. That is dumb, but if this is the state refund, why not just make up a street address, Like "State Capitol", Or "NONE" ?
  2. He uses Drake now, Dave.

    1040-ES

Quick and dirty way: On the Options tab, select 1f for that amount, and 3d for the one voucher. Then, just override the RECORD itself, if you want it all on the first voucher, for example. You can not override the VOUCHER, but if you override the RECORD, the voucher will then show what you want it to show. So to get it into the first voucher, you override the amount in the first to what you want, and the 4th to zero. Save, and then it should give you what you want.
  4. Yes, if the 'car allowance is just extra salary, and is included in Box 1, then you can use the entire amount on the 2106. You only have to reduce for reimbursements NOT INCLUDED IN THE W-2.
  5. http://www.irs.gov/app/picklist/list/formsInstructions.html Then type in 1045 in the box, and it will give you the form. Notice that the date the IRS posted this form was 2/28, so ATX should have it very soon.
  6. Not always true Gene. DOT rules say if the driver is required to rest, it counts. That is any day with 11 hrs driving. So if he has 11 hours on his log book for the day, it counts for him. Maximum driving time is 11 hours. After 11 hours behind the wheel, the driver must have 10 hours of rest. Maximum on-duty time is 14 hours. After 14 hours on duty (which may or may not include up to 11 hours of driving) the driver cannot operate a commercial vehicle until he has had 10 hours of rest. The 14-hour on duty time begins when a driver comes on duty and can only be stopped with a minimum two-hour break in the sleeper. You might both want to check out this link, it has some good info. http://www.irs.gov/businesses/article/0,,id=170628,00.html
  7. Hey, go ahead and send the letter, you will get some pleasure out of pointing out their error! And maybe speed it up a bit, as well.
  8. DITTO
  9. Have you reported this to the programers by posting to the 'Suggestion Box'?
  10. Actually, it does not take very long when you have the 'draft' copy to go by, and you use all the program worksheets, so it is just the 1045 itself that you have to fill out. And if they are in a rush to file, to get a significant refund, they are not going to quibble over the time charged.

    1099-C

Often the 1099C includes a significant amount of accrued interest and 'fees', so it's always a good idea to challenge that figure when insolvency is not a factor.
  12. While you do have to eat anyway, you would not have to eat out, at extra cost, except for the travel. So getting to take the small 50% of meals is really just covering the extra cost of eating out.
  13. What you can do, if you really need to file a 1045 right now, is to do it in ATX, print out the draft copy, then go to the IRTS website and fill out the fillable form there, and mail it in. with the NOL worksheets as attachments.
  14. Here is a more direct link. http://www.fairmark.com/amt/credit-refundable.htm If you are not liable for AMT this year, but you paid AMT in one or more previous years, you may be eligible to take a special minimum tax credit against your regular tax this year. If eligible, you should complete and attach Form 8801 , Credit for Prior Year Minimum Tax - Individuals, Estates and Trusts.
  15. Or if she really does expect to put them back into use, do not 'dispose of the asset at all. But given the situation, I'd probably choose the 'converted to personal use' option, being sure to put a copy of the asset info in the file, so that if she does go back to work for them, and start using them again, you know just what to put in to reestablish basis, etc.
  16. You simply prepare the 1099MISC with the name and address, and amount, and in the space for the SSN/ITIN you put 'applied for'. Or Unavailable, if you prefer. The IRS will process it. just the same.

    1099-C

    Sounds right to me.
  18. That is correct that they would get the $300 per child for children not on the 07 return.
  19. Yup, I am totally wrong, and Mike is correct!!!!!! Hey, that is what happens when they steal an hour from me. I'm not a lark at the best of times, and right now, I feel like shooting a Congressman or two for making the time change before 4/15. Oh, well, I'm beginning to wake up, now. Sorry for misleading you Ken.
  20. As to the search function, it will not search for words of less than 4 letters, so trying to search for NOL will not work. Try searching for Operating Loss instead. As for the form, it will efile, and frankly I see no reason not to also use it for paper filing, ignoring that warning, because you can use the worksheet in the Pub, and this is the same thing.
  21. Only the 'excess' Housing Allowance would be subject to the SE tax. Both the other items would.

    1099-Q

I don't think so. As you said, the calculation is pretty simple.
  23. Although techically, you do not have to report a §121 sale, if the client gets a 1099S I think it is always best to file the Sch D and show that you claimed the exclusion. Just saves the client getting a letter later.
  24. No, mine is printing just fine. Perhaps you need to check your printer drivers?
  25. Actually, if I dare answer you seriously, I find it's much easier to retrieve an efax than a normal paper one. If the original paper document gets lost or misfiled, it can be a real pain, but an efax I sent can always be retrieved. And one I got is stored in several different places, automatically. But I do think the original post was a joke, on the line of Tom's version.
