  1. I had separating clients for 2 years and they fought and fought and dragged their feet so long just to be vindictive, i was a stressed out mess. the 3rd year they came back, still not divorced i told them to go somewhere else. Its not worth the mess or stress. I say "fire" them now.
  2. ok - that thought had crossed my mind about 3:00am this morning. That's what I will do. thank you! :) :pop:
  3. client received 1099B for unclaimed funds from nys for his mothers estate - which was closed in 2010. The amt is 2792 for stock in Met life. So the basis would have been at date of death...which would have been 1500 ~ 1600 ....... :dunno: file?....i guess i have to. i don't want to.
  4. wow - we're going to be like those people on the news using their snowblowers to blow snow on each other while they fought over driveway or sidewalk space. I had the exact same situation. Shopping around. When he called back, i suggested that he continue to shop around that I was not interested in playing pricing games. It is what it is. Does he drive back and forth between McDs and BK to see who has the cheapest burger?
  5. i'm located near a movie theater too.... :pop: :pop:
  6. agreed. doesn't matter what they admit, tax treatment is the same.
  7. thanks! Seems logical
  8. Happens every year. Someone always disappears from ATX in to a deep black hole. Just an odd phenomenon :pop: . We will recreate and do him again. I must have deleted him somehow, but......it's just weird. Like i said - at least 1 per year.
  9. I will be down. New competition in town (EG tax) and i am also waiting on corps! Very slow getting to me this year. Haven't decided if this is a good problem or a bad problem. Sometimes I'm happy to see clients go.
  10. Husband and wife elected to file as joint venture in 2013. Now they don't want to file as JV because he basically is only one doing this business. So last year we filed 2 schedule Cs and basically split the income and expense. Any red flags - or elections we need to make - if we go to just one schedule C :pop:
  11. I suspect he had been issued a warning before they came in and "stole" all his guns.
  12. if no will exists, then court appoints administrator who is responsible for filing returns and "wrapping up business". Does not automatically fall on parents.
  13. Can i expense them this year or do i have to capitalize? :pop:
  14. yes - 3 years if from Apr 15 date
  15. wow - I guess i wasn't considering this as financial fleshing
  16. ok - i have farmers, oilmen, and smokers. And my dog likes to toot every once-in-awhile.
  17. Have seen a local preparer charge double when the return is a delinquent return, with explanation that you are violating the law by not filing your return on a timely basis - that apparently being the justification for increased fees. what do you think of that?
  18. First of all, Deb, what is your dogs name. Second - I am thinking that even in the long run, the actual expense of running a truck like that outweighs the std mileage. By the time you consider gas, tires, insurance, maintenance, registration. And - having done a ton of returns for guys that buy trucks, i have never known one to actually keep one that long. Just my 2 cents.
  19. I have a client who has repossessed property and will have a taxable gain. Can't find where to input this info or make it trigger on 6252. Any suggestions?
  20. got my first "unexpected encounter" and had to shut down.
  21. i had not run into this before in our little small town. thank you!!! voided checks only.
  22. First of all - i had never heard of this bank. Not around here at all. But I had a client move from NYS to Florida and he sent me the deposit ticket for his refund. And the routing number is 519960424. ATX doesn't like it, and when I looked it up on an online ABA search - it couldn't be found. I have a call into Fifth Third Bank at the number listed on the website. Do any of you have an account with this bank or have clients with this bank?
  23. I am confused as to whether the taxpayer is supposed to get more refund ($350) if they didn't get their check in the mail last fall? Has anyone dealt with this yet? I'm having a rough tax season already...................
  24. So I fill out the worksheet on 8965 for shared responsibility. And the key to this calc seems to be the household income line. Following instructions, I fill in their combined household income, which is roughly 76000. They were married in late June and in July she was on his insurance. It doesn't seem right that the penalty is based on their combined household income when at the time of her being out of compliance her income was closer to 25K annually. I see on the premium credit that there is some consideration for becoming married during the year, but I do not see where there is any place on the penalty to consider getting married during the year. Am I missing something?
