  1. I like having the rollover take care of that information without having the delete things here and add things there.
  2. We should start a topic that collects the various state EINs. I needed the one for CT awhile back. It is not clear to me why these numbers are so sensitive. It is also not clear to me why they need to be entered on the 1099-G input screen, either. Seems like an unnecessary error check by the program.
  3. ** Never mind - finally found it! ** I have a client who lives in and works in Washington DC. He went on assignment for one month to Philadelphia, so he has a 2nd W-2 from that. Is there a place on the DC return where he can subtract the tax paid to PA so he is not double taxed on the income? I have been searching the DC Office of Tax and Revenue web site, but cannot find it, if it exists. Thanks!
  4. Sometimes it just hangs and does nothing. Other times I get some sort of error screen. When it first happened I tried emailing it to you through your link on here but that failed to. Next time I get the error message I will CnP it into this thread. For this post, the first attempt it just hung and did nothing. This is my 2nd attempt. Actually now my 3rd attempt. p.s. I am using IE 9 on my brand new desktop. Windows 7 Home Premium i5 64bit with 8gig
  5. I get the same crash. For one, I had to get it done so I ended up re-inputting the return from scratch instead of from rollover. Pain....
  6. My posts do not go through about 50% of the time. It took two attempts for this one.
  7. I use ESET, has been working on my Windows 7 machines, but not at all on my XP machines. I have borrowed two Windows 7 machines to temporarily replace my XP machines so I can get by....
  8. We were experiencing all kinds of weird problems with .NET Framework 4.0. Upgrading to .NET Framework 4.5 took care of them. I think they should now ensure people are up to 4.5....
  9. I experienced the same issue and also reported it.
  10. I have always wanted an "uncheck" feature - now it exists! Click once in "Check all" box and then a second time. It seems to be much smarter at pre-selecting what to print. I find it easier to choose what to print. I think the time I spend in the print manager this year compared to previous years is reduced by a factor of 3-4 times. That's a huge win - I always felt the print manager was the least useful part of the old ATX.
  11. I am finding them to print in 12.10!
  12. For me, yes. With the Billing Manager, you can change the rate on the form to 0 and keep it in the return for the reasons you mentioned.
  13. It seems things are beginning to approach some level of stability (some is the operative word). This has certainly helped to reduce the high stress level from February! I am finding the new Print Manager to be a substantial improvement over the past. I know some are really struggling with it, but I really like it. My printing is much faster this year than in the past due to the usability improvements.
  14. Such a strange year - I am not experiencing this at all and actually think the print manager is substantially improved from last year. So many people having so many different experiences....
  15. I am. I can tell you more about it offline. Send me a private message here with your email and we can talk directly.
  16. Never done that - how do you attach a pdf to an efile?
  17. Following guidelines in Pub 970 (section 8), we have determined that some of the earnings on a 1099-Q distribution are taxable. This amount is less than what is reported in box 2 on the 1099-Q. Reporting this smaller number on the tax return than the box 2 amount has been generating letters from the IRS after the season, which are easily resolved by sending in the calculations and receipts, etc. Is there a way to report the calculation with the original return when e-filed, rather than always receiving an IRS letter after the fact? Thanks!
  18. Now it is official. http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/Gramlich-resigns-from-cch-sfs-65790-1.html In case that link doesn't work: http://bit.ly/XTQQ6p
  19. One of our favorite sayings when I worked in software development was: Price - Speed - Quality -- choose two Unfortunately in this case, I think they only chose one....
  20. The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of meeting the schedule has been forgotten. I know for a fact they were working on this for two years and had a small amount of testers. I felt from day one their schedule was too aggressive, and now that we are in the midst of this debacle, it is also clear that their software development environment is inadequate - there is no way we should have to wait 1.5 weeks for an update. They should be putting out more frequent focused updates, rather than bundling many unrelated updates into one big release, which just introduces more unintended problems. In my former life, I worked in software development - this is rather easy to accomplish with the proper infrastructure.
  21. For us, it is the school bus drivers.....
  22. To get the "free" FileShare portal, you need to purchase Site Builder for around $1,000. I think when the original post enquired about a free solution, it probably was interested in a completely free solution! I use both Site Builder and its free FileShare!
  23. I had over $1,000 in billables this year for 1099s, and they don't take a lot of time. I'm glad to do them!
