TP had lost his job (2015) and the bank forgave part of the loan and interest due for personal residence, TP received a 1099-C and has been insolvent for the past couple of years now. Do I omit the 1099-C and just enter the information on form 982? Or is there something else I need to do? Thanks

I asked Siri your question and she had nothing good to say.

Might get his sign printed and post it everywhere. No cell phone.pdf
-
Who here has a NO CELL sign in there waiting area, conference or any where in their office? I don't get this, if I go see my doctor I am sure going to turn off my phone because I respect my doctor's time, but why aren't accountants respected? I don't mind if they call someone for information I might need to prepare the tax return, I actually encourage calling the banker to request important documents, but I don't like it when they take calls or are texting and not giving me their attention.

Shouldn't it be subject to SE? I see it this way, I would normally do my own copies, filing etc..., however if I hire someone "temporary" to do my office filing, I see them as a temporary employee and would issue a box 7 1099.

You would think we are used to waiting on hold (with IRS) however it sucks when you cannot move forward because of the software errors.

If a TP receives a 1099 for temporary renting their apartment to be used in a scene for a tv show and it was rented for only 4 days, my question since a 1099 is issued and the TP qualifies for 14 day rule, should I inform the TP the IRS might want to talk to about this? MAS

I'll make this a part II question, if a student enrolls, drops all classes, pays the bill, are they entitled to a credit?
-
TP child school account summary does not show a 1098-T for 2016 but is able to print out records of payments, what do you recommend I do? TP child contacted the school but had no luck, should I use 2015 school information or forgo the credit?

My favorite is when they say I got into buying properties business and want to deduct all my loses.

I respect your response, thank you, I am forgetting this is the year for me to work smarter not harder.

Oh vey, I've been working with a client since 2004 and barely today, they found out they had given me their childs' SS# instead theirs. So now I need to amend the most recent years of k-1's, how much would you charge during the busy tax season? MAS

I sometimes feel like this kid when you have work to do and windows is updating in the background

This year I am asking for more documents for my EIC/CTC etc.... clients, a few had asked me why I was asking for so many documents if their friends preparer didn't, I respond by saying I am not responsible for what others are doing, I am responsible for myself and business. MAS

Right now I have two corporate returns that needs the books done before attacking the tax return, one is a returning client and it takes me 4 to 6 hours to create the P&L and B&S, this year I realized charging $200 to $400 of extra work is not worth it for me.
-
Should shoebox client fee for organizing their books be higher then the preparation fee? I am noticing I make less money with them and they come in at the worst time, I would like to hear from other how they handle these clients and your aggravation fees?
-
Crappy paper clip, how about receiving a TP envolope with a smell between musty, mildew or cat urine?
-
I had a client that was convinced by a broker to refinance their home and to invest the money, they lost $30k like in seconds.

We all hate when this happens because we are not sales people, maybe we are not charging enough.
