I also had contacted TRX at the beginning of November, and they did verify my e-mail address, and said that they would be e-mailing the registration codes for 2007 that week. However, the only actual communication I have received from them since then is the weekly advertising postcard. FWIW, I don't think that the TaxWise distribution to the IRS/TCE/VITA/AARP clients, due in late November, has occurred yet either.

Can't help you on that one. Assuming you have your original install disk, if you back up the contents of the X:\TRX\2007\TRX PRO\Updates folder you will be able to restore your software and all updates and states that you have downloaded. (where X: is the drive you selected for your data storage.)

The latest federal update I have is 1.16. What state do you need? Don

The conversion software is available on http://www.trxprotwsupport.com/ . Log in with your first name as the userid and use your previous TRX password (TRXnnnnn). Click on download, then conversions. There is a documentation file with a detailed list of what will actually be converted. I tried the software on about fifty of my 2007 IntelliTax returns - it works. I haven't dug deeply into my depreciation returns to see how well. I'm going to wait until we get the real release codes for the 2007 and 2008 software to do any serious conversions, lest I have to do them all over again.

CCH Small Firm Services Acquires IntelliTax
Don in Upstate NY replied to Eric's topic in General Chat
It was a real smile. While IntelliTax worked OK for me last season, I never had a warm fuzzy feeling with it. There had been a number of bugs that I found when I loaded my 2006 returns into it as a learning experience, but they had either been fixed or had a known work-around for 2007. It is tightly integrated into the operating system, and uses the Microsoft SQL service as its engine. The SQL engine and the automatic update feature run all the time, not just when the tax program is running. So it is somewhat of a resource hog. But it was quite a deal for the price. I'm also an instructor for the AARP TaxAide TCE program, which uses TaxWise. So I'm familiar with the program, and have never had any concerns about its accuracy. And this season it looks like I'll only be using one program! So  -

Look at me smile! I bought IntelliTax/OrrTax for $299 for next year (thru TRX) and now presumably will get TaxWise! http://www.taxwise.com/index_intellitax.html -
The www.orrtax.com URL no longer works. The www.intellitax.com URL is forwarded to www.taxwise.com Here's a link confirming that Intellitax customers will be furnished with TaxWise for the upcoming season at no additional cost. http://www.taxwise.com/index_intellitax.html The www.trxalliance.com site still shows the $299 software (OrrTax/IntelliTax)

What to do is to mail it! Contrary to popular belief, the 1099-Misc is NEVER transmitted on a federal e-file. Look in Pub 1346 - there is no record defined for a 1099-Misc. New York has a 1099-Misc electronic record but it should only be generated when there is NY withholding on a 1099-Misc in an e-file return. Much like the IT-1099-R paper form which is only used if there is NY withholding on a 1099-R in a paper filed return. Sounds like a software and/or input problem is causing a 1099-Misc record to be generated. At this late date just mail the return.

For what it's worth, my 2004 version of MAX shows Version 2004.48.3 on the "About Max" screen. The CDDATE shows 20050322, which is the value of CDDATE and RELEASE in the Atx2004.ini file. My physical CD shows a Release of 4.1.2005. All of which means I don't have the latest version either! (But MAX was not my primary program in 2004.)

1776? 1492? ej(pi)? Can I use one of my lifelines?
-
Plus Circular 230 prohibits it ...
-
New York has eliminated the necessity of obtaining "permission" to e-file here. Your federal EFIN number is all you need.
-
How about using Form 8888 to have the refund split between two different accounts?
-
Were you trying to prepare a return on the new machine or e-file from it? I have had no problem installing TRX on both my desktop and laptop, but can e-file only from the desktop (the one I registered with the filing center.)

Read it carefully. It does NOT say that Leopard will run Windows applications. It says that Leopard will run Windows itself, which will then run your Windows applications. You still must buy and install Microsoft XP or Vista. If there are things that you don't like about the Windows operating system, they are still there. You just don't need two different computers to run both Windows and MAC programs. As far as Microsoft Office goes, there has been a MAC version of that for some time (at least since 2004). Open Office also exists in a MAC version.

You mean like ATX used to do thru TaxCut which was owned by Block Financial Services? -
The screen shots look like the IntelliTax(OrrTax) software but the package options and prices are completely different than offered by TRX. It appears that TRX and Refunds Today are both resellers of IntelliTax.

The credit from the 2441 should roll over automatically. Expense per kid is entered originally on the dependent worksheet and flows to the 2441. The care provider info and total paid is entered on the care provider worksheet and flows to the 2441. Do your 2441 line 9 and line 13 both show the correct credit?
-
That's a real plus. The last year that you could read the ATX e-file was TY 2002; after then the e-file file was encrypted and no longer available for troubleshooting. I still have the code I wrote to reformat the file for easier reading. I'll see if I can adapt it for OrrTax/TRX.

Thanks David. Although it's rare that I do a return for a taxpayer employed by NYC, (never so far), I would have missed that one.
-
Hey - that works! Thank you.

Agree. I tried their docuPrinter and it was more trouble than it was worth. I use the FinePrint pdfFactory printer that was included with ATX several years ago. It combines all the forms into one file, and also lets you delete pages that you don't want to keep. If you leave it open after you print the return you can also scan any backup data into the same file. As mentioned in the last post, the correct literal for the mandatory state retirement contribution is 414HSUB. It carries over to the IT-201 correctly. The literal SDI (see the drop down box) also will carry the mandatory disability premium over to Schedule A - state taxes. I wasn't aware that the IRC 125 (pre-tax cafeteria plan) went anywhere on the federal or NY return. Actually, I thought the client letter was one of the strong points. It's fully customizable with merge fields and merge logic. It's miles ahead of the ATX letter, which is not suprising when you consider that ATX is trying to use a spreadsheet as a word processor. There are a number of small bugs and inconsistencies in the program that are annoying rather than fatal. - Formatting of the amount of a refund in the client letter is not customizable, and is $1234.00 for the federal but $1234 for NY. Commas would be nice, and either show the cents or don't. - I'm not thrilled with the looks of the printed return. The data is in Courier and appears light. They sometimes use different font sizes to print similar data on the return. (On the 1040, taxpayer date signed is in a smaller font than preparer date signed.) If there ever was a contest for best looking return, the $99 version of TaxAct would win. - The ERO date signed is printed on the 8879, but not on the corresponding TR-579. The 2006 version had two bugs that I reported by e-mail. The 6251 was adjusting depreciation for assets used on a 2106, and the NY partial exclusion for taxpayers over 59-1/2 was apparently using hard coded dates and was several years out of date. I received no response to either of these (other than the automated "Thank you ...") but the bugs were fixed for 2007. I just renewed also.
-
That was my conclusion also. Some of the detailed lists work, some don't. An annoyance, but not a fatal flaw.

I've been using TRX all season and never figured that one out! Is there some magic to get the detailed list for (e.g.) Real Estate taxes on personal residence to work? Would like to keep detailed record of County, Village, School and Rebates.
