Depreciation never taken for rental property sold in 2014

You also mail a signed 3115 to either Odgen or DC, I think. Instructions should give you mailing info. -
I only have two: one mother I've know since the day after she was born in 1981, have been in their home with mother and children, gotten all the gossip via grandmother, know the mother's siblings also; other mother lives in my town, attends the only school and music and sports activities, been clients for longer than the son has been alive, came recommended from an even longer-term client. I have them answer the questions and sign.

Make sure YOUR paycheck gets paid by him!

I have this from time to time and report NO sourced income in the state where no services were performed. I include a statement. Usually, it goes smoothly with my client getting all his w/h back from that state. But, sometimes it takes many telephone calls. I'm still trying to get the rest of a MA refund for one client and RI for another from 2013. The RI spanned two tax years (he was on a ship in international waters and didn't see payroll detail until he got home) with the first year sending his 2012 refund immediately and the second year sending a tiny 2013 refund with me still calling about the rest. Depending on the relative tax rates, you could let the other state have their money and take the credit on his resident state. (MA and RI didn't work out favorably for that method for my clients.)

I think you need to go out on a date!

Do you raise those on your farm?

I just figure if he can lose lots of money to gambling he can pay lots of money to his tax preparer who reports his gambling the most beneficial way and keeps him out of jail. Raise his price.

When our kids were young and we gave offered them two cookies and they asked for three, we gave them only one. I think you should tell him that your April price is $175, take it or leave it. (If he gave me a check for $150, I'd probably give him his return.) How much were his gambling losses?

Check the instructions for Schedule D lines 1a and 8a to see if your transactions qualify. If so, no descriptions nor dates needed. How you enter those lines in your software is another question, but I can't answer that.

Doing everything except what I should be working on...

One of my church clients said he doesn't have his last K-1 yet and he will call them Monday. I think he gave it to me, but I took the opportunity to say we'll file extensions and I'll give him the amounts to pay next week. My other church client was trying to be as nice as possible in telling me I'm slow to get his grandson's prepped and that his own preparer of his very complex return was faster. At least they both smiled. Ate a small piece of cake that was a farewell to a supply priest that worked a lot of Sundays for us (priest in charge begins next week). They hadn't put hot water on for tea and I'm not a big coffee fan, but I did have a mug of tea before I went to church. Hubby the music director did a great job with his volunteer choir; he also had a paid trumpet player who was great. It'll be a long time before our ham is ready, so I'm going to check out our Easter candy supply. -

Having a Reese's peanut butter egg with my tea before going to church. I did have a Mini Babybel cheese first. See two families at church that have unstarted tax returns. Hope they're in the Easter spirit. -
Yes, and that's a pain if things are dribbling in or big changes or new client. For the usual employees with w/h that's usually enough, it's a snap. For the SE who usually owes about the same and hasn't given me anything to change that for 2014, I put the usual. And, if someone has given me zip and calls for an extension, I might have to put 0 and let them take the consequences. I hate the states that won't take extensions via tax prep software, and CT is one of those. Have to use CT's website for those that owe. Or, I'm uploading their extensions to my portal so they can mail them in with checks.

I'd hire you if you have nothing to do!
-
I'd bill him. Then, I'd never send a second bill, statement, whatever, just let it go if he didn't pay. Or, did you say tree guy? I'd ask him for the same number of hours of his time in my yard when it's convenient for him. Or, he just sells trees, doesn't work with them?

A client knocked on my door today while I was walking past, no hiding possible. Also, no shower, no brushed teeth or combed hair, just my flannel jammies and a fleece top over it all with slippers. We talked at the door a good long time as she dropped of their materials so I can compute amounts for extensions. Hope I didn't scare her too badly. Hubby will cook a ham and thaw out Cosco mac & cheese and nuke green beans and said he bought Easter chocolate for Sunday. I set my alarm so I can make it to church. Tonight I told him he has to have dinner at 6:09 so I can watch MSU in the Final Four! He's making breakfast for dinner, probably omelets. -
Something about holding period...?

Hugs for your kitty and you.

And, make the adjustments to report ordinary income/loss and the other details in the sales worksheet from KM. A royal pain.

Why am I procrastinating? Why do I answer the phone when caller ID tells me not to? Why do I spend so much time replying to emails? Why didn't I put on the Catherine/Rita auto respond before I had two dozen emails from the same family and dozens more from other multi-return families? Why can't I proofread this return I need to get to FedEx today? I'm going to make a cup of tea now. -
I should've taken the time to set up the auto-respond. I've had eight emails asking about my progress on their returns and two very long telephone calls wanting to update me on their info for extension and ES purposes. Argghhh! I'm in pricey, snooty Fairfield County, but I may use Rita's version.

Is this one of those cases where the trust 1041 and the estate 1041 can be together?
-
Go White! Last game I had it on my horizontal monitor while prepping returns on my two vertical monitors. And, I've been able to schedule eating and folding laundry while watching the earlier games. Telephone calls or the need to really concentrate have had me missing parts, but have to watch my Spartans!

Can I push Like multiple times! I'm stealing that, Catherine. I did complete one that's hundreds of pages thick before I slept for a few hours, but I'd started it last weekend before my kids showed up from PA. Attempting a very organized one today, but they paper file and go over every single number after I FedEx it to them in FL. So, I will have to explain every number and probably make revisions. I need more than three per day, but am still about one every three days. Just had a bowl of soup while reading message boards and now back to work.

9 a day! Good grief. I wish I could complete 1 a day! The ones that come in now have hundreds of pages with two or three states (more if I did all the states on their K-1s). Their 1099-Bs have thousands of trades with wash sales. They have dozens of K-1s with several activities each. And, then I find some documents that have to do with the trusts that grandma set up for their kids in their folder. And, a couple of college kids with W-2s from three states each and who need the K-1s from those trusts I just found that are from MA that I have to prepare before I can prepare the kids' returns. And, mother's estate. And a NJ paystub with no W-2. And, they sold their NY rental and a portion of two of their PTPs. And, they keep calling to ask how they should change their withholding and if selling their house this year will change their taxes next year and did they give me all their donations and their former IC needs another copy of his 2013 Form 1099-MISC. And, did they tell me they're going on vacation this weekend and won't return until 20 April?! And, the kids go back to college this weekend and need to sign their returns right now. And, should their LLC be an S-corp? And, I'm tired and cranky and getting a stomach ache from all the chocolate hubby's throwing at me.
