  1. I find going directly to e-services fast and easy and absolutely free. Don't forget they have an e-help desk for your telephone support, also free.
  2. If you're going to keep it in a retirement plan, you will avoid both penalty and income tax. But, if you need it for home buying, for instance, taking it immediately as it moves via QDRO from ex-spouse's name to yours will allow the divorce exception to penalty on that partial or total distribution. Once you roll it over into an IRA, the IRA rules rule when you take a distribution.

my last accepted return was my own CT return accepted 16 October, but it went with my federal and IL returns which were accepted 15 October and 14 October. I'm assuming CT is NOT late, but CT sends out letters immediately if they access a late filing penalty or additional day's interest or have any other underpayment issues, so I'll know pretty quickly if CT considers my return timely filed.
  4. Yay!!!! KC or Eric, can you make us a 16 October smilie, please?!
  5. It snowed here yesterday, also. And, my husband had taken the brush out of my car for whatever reason! My 2007, yes 2007, return is sitting in an unsorted stack to be assembled; and now I can put my 2008 stack next to it on the guest bed. No wonder I never have any overnight guests!

I spoke to a CCH support person (ProSystem fx) who said the time stamps rule and continued to be 15 October until midnight local time. Now, I was nervous about my own and got it in 14 October and all my clients prior to mine. I think you were wise to CYA, though.
  7. What are you really asking? Which qualification do you think he misses? Does the locality tax the house as real estate? Is it somehow movable? Does he have a spouse who owned a home? Why are you asking if he qualifies?
  8. Did son own a principal residence within three years of closing on this residence?
  9. Done. Transmitted last clients and my own yesterday. Don't know why I do mine last. Anyway, all have been accepted except mine (well, IL accepted but not IRS and CT). Way behind on bookkeeping for a large client and already have an individual with two years to file, a partnership with four years and a c-corp with four. I'm taking the weekend off, though, to catch up on sleep and laundry and get reacquainted with my husband. CCH user conference is only a week away, as well as other courses this fall to prepare for next year.
  10. This extended tax season gives us little time to recover, so my insanity may now be permanent. Thank goodness we have other tax preparers who understand us!
  11. Beneficiaries of the estate, maybe? Is there a lawyer involved? If so, let him sort it out. Did anyone inherit assets, IRAs, anything of value, house, car,...?

I read that last IRS drain on the 15th is 11 a.m.; however, time stamp will still say 15 October through midnight local time. I'd check with your software or third-party transmitter for the details that apply to YOUR situation.
  13. I think with the MEF, you can e-file entities any time, but you can call the e-desk or your software company to check.
  14. Check with an appropriate trade association or union for suggestions; ask other truckers and trucking companies what they use.
  15. Why didn't Obama graciously turn it down?!
