Which one, and at what point are you stuck?

Here's general instructions that I posted in another similar topic:

1. Install ATX on your system.

2. Download the authenticator to your mobile device.

3. Open ATX 2024 and create your password. It should bring up a screen with the QR box to scan and a box to enter the initial authenticator code.  Leave this screen open and go to #4.

4. On your phone, open the authenticator and click the + button and point the camera at the QR box.  It should scan the QR and automatically set up "ATX 2024...."  and generate a numeric code to enter into the ATX program. This is the initial code that pairs your software with your mobile device.  Enter that code into the box in the ATX software that you opened in step #3.  It should be paired now.

From then on when you open ATX, you will enter your password and then it will ask for a 6-digit code from the authenticator.

Open the authenticator and look for the one that says "ATX 2024" and it should have the 6-digit code to enter.  That code is good for 30 seconds and will automatically refresh every 30 secs.

Make sure the clocks on the computer and the mobile device are the same, otherwise the codes will not be in sync and may not work because of the 30 second refresh rate.

thanks Judy.  I downloaded BitWarden and it kept pushing a paid subscription (and an advert for another authenticator kept showing up) but anyway I found the code (now red), waited for the refresh and...it worked.  So I muddled through.  BitWarden was highly rated but I may try something else.

I went with the MS app.  I always just stick to MS.

Update: I deleted the authenticator on my iphone and went back to the App store.  Turns out, when I entered BitWarden in search, the search results did not have BitWarden at the top.  So I screwed up by clicking on the top result and downloaded some unknown authenticator app.  This time I downloaded the real thing and it is a much cleaner process.  Geez...one more year...

I got the 2024 to work, but I have other years on my computer.  how do I put them on the authenticator app?

You don't have to.  They will open with just your user name and password..hopefully you kept a copy of your passwords for prior years.

How does this work when I have an employee needing to open the tax program?  Do I have to always be present with my phone?  That's pretty much not efficient and cumbersome.  Is there a different method to use?

It's been posted before to have a second login with either a phone authenticator or web.  I'm adding my husband with his phone in case I lose mine or something worse happens.  Has any prior employee had a different login from yours in the past?  This is much the same with the extra 2fa step on their phone or online.  I'm not great with finding the prior posts with step by step instructions but the ATX help had them, too.

No.  Your employee logs into your computer as usual, but uses their own phone to authenticate.  Always remember that the phone is tied to the computer.  Therefore, if the employee has an authenticater for a different computer, he/she will have a different one for your computer.  Your phone doesn't enter into anyone else logging into your program on YOUR computer.
