  3. Client stopped by the office this morning and; (maybe not quite this scarce, but still...) https://www.amazon.com/Bring-Me-Unicorn-Lindbergh-1922-1928/dp/0156141647 said he was going to sell $75K of stock, but first wanted to know: "What would be the effect on my taxes?" What'sa matter with this guy? Doesn't he know it's standard practice throughout the tax preparation world for clients to sell now and ask that question next April?

  4. Hahaha I just got off the phone with a lady that won a purse from TN Lottery, valued at $1300. She asked me what the tax would be before she sent in the W-9. She was smart enough to know she wasn't sending that form in if she couldn't make anything reselling that purse. I almost cried. I may need mental help myself.

  5. Thanks to everyone who responded. I did try to apply for a new EIN and as we all thought, it was rejected so the old one is still active. Yeah! I am so glad this client is starting his business back up as he is among my top 2 favorite clients. He listens to and always asks advice before he does anything major that will effect him tax wise. He is one of the few I work for that actually takes into account that although he may be paying someone 15.00 per hour that is not the true cost to him because of payroll taxes, work comp, ect... I am truly looking forward to working for him again!

  7. I'm here! I would love to be taking CPE, but I'm stuck with payroll taxes, extensions, clients that only file every three years or so, and answering IRS and state letters. This is my worst summer ever for being behind, because I have too much on my personal and work stuff going on. I don't know how people can get letters from the IRS and state and not give them to me or their attorneys for months.

  8. I have a bunch of ways to take cards. Drake e-pay from right inside the software. Fast payment to me, per-use fee only - nothing monthly. PayPal from my web site (works great for out-of-state and foreign clients). Also just a per-transaction fee. QB like Lion has; per-use fee only. For acctg clients or people with non-current-year tax returns (or several years at once) or non-e-filable returns, where doing it through Drake wouldn't work. Drake's e-pay gets me $$ the fastest. Paypal is next but it stays as a balance in that account until I transfer it (I leave some, and pay for CPE meetings from that account as my local society prefers that method). QB takes longest to get me cash. Not having a smart phone, all the little swipey readers are useless for me.
