  1. Do you think Amazon should extend their prime day like the IRS has done in the past when their servers are down? Oh well, I guess my thimble, magnets and sugar packet collection has to wait.

  2. When I copied and pasted that email address into my email program, it complained that there were non-ASCII characters in it, so I just typed it in and it was fine. Here's my email: This redesign is a huge waste of money and is purely for political talking points. They've taken a familiar two page form and turned it into an eight page monstrosity. Making the main form two half pages instead of one full page is a joke. The amount of excess paper this will cause to be consumed is alarming. All of that white space on the new forms is insane. Make the new 1040 one full page and put multiples of the new "schedules" on the same page so that the average taxpayer will still only have two pages and not eight! And if the taxpayer doesn't need any schedules, their tax form will be one page instead of the traditional two. Thanks for listening!

  3. Trying to find some choice words for my letter. BTW, I love dinosaurs since I worked in a Sinclair gas station as a kid. Remember Dino?

  5. Thanks Lee, evidently this is not over if they are entertaining comments. My being a perennial optimist I am hopeful some sanity will take root. I like Abby's letter, will make a nice template in keeping it short, sweet, and to the point. Now where's my thesaurus?

  6. eServices is a complete mess. They should shift to a Citrix system or something similar. The system they have with all the hoops you have to jump through really isn't all that safe. At least my password doesn't keep expiring.

  8. I'd say that this is deductible IF the car was purchased by taxpayer in his or her name before the transfer of the gift. If it was purchased directly in the name of the recipient, then taxpayer can't deduct it since technically he/she wasn't the party liable and title was never in his or her name.

  10. Thanks rfassett, your response was my original thought and as you said, I began to overthink it. This guy is normally very good and I do all of his WC audits and neither of us had any idea this would have been overpaid. The audit always takes place in June, he received this check in February. ILLMAS, I would love to see someone's prepaid insurance worksheet. This client's WC premiums are for three employees in an auto repair shop at a direct expense of 100% so no real involved calcs. However, I have another client who tracks their own WC insurance and I know they screw it up every time in their QB and I have to fix it. Thanks!

  11. Credit the prepaid account and then do your period ending adjustment. It will only affect the current year - unless your client had reason to KNOW that he was overpaid before the audit took place , and then your expense for 2017 would be overstated because that should have been an estimate for the accrual basis tax payer.. But yes, you are overthinking it. Do it in the current period and move on.
