  2. To all my friends here - if you celebrate Passover, then, "Next year in Jerusalem!" If you celebrate Easter, have a blessed day. One of my huge blessings is all of YOU.

  3. My grandkids didn't find all of the eggs and we don't know where all the wife put them. I guess I'll find some in about a month when they smell good and the smelly kitty hasn't found them by then.

  4. We buy all the components and build them here. That way if something goes bad we can replace very quickly. I too suggest ssd and as much memory as the motherboard will accept. In the case of memory more is better.

  5. or even simpler is Quicken - that is what we use for most of the businesses and my 2 businesses. I use QB when the client has it and try to get by - buying every 2-3 years. And Medlin is great - but we only use it for payroll D

  6. Copied from the BNA Blog: Here is a roundup of payroll issues covered in the past week: Federal A House bill (H.R. 2213) was introduced April 10 that would permanently extend the work opportunity tax credit. The credit, which ranges from $1,200 to $9,600 per employee, seeks to help veterans, the long-term unemployed, felons, the disabled, and other disadvantaged groups. A congressional plan for federal paid family leave would use health savings accounts to fund the program. Employers would make pre-tax contributions to the accounts under the plan, which was introduced April 9 by Rep. Andrew Biggs (R.-Ariz.). Reports of business identity theft were up about 10 percent in 2018 compared, with 2017, the IRS said April 8. Compared with individual identity theft, which had an 18 percent decrease in reports over the same period, business identity theft may take a variety of forms, such as stealing the employer’s identification number or W-2 information, as well as making fraudulent wire transfers, the IRS said. Treasury Department and IRS officials March 28 presented payroll-industry representatives with an early draft of the 2020 Form W-4 that would implement changes required by the tax code overhaul (Pub. L. 115-97). State Nebraska employers may make unemployment tax payments on an annual basis, instead of quarterly, if they have a positive account balance and no late payments on Oct. 31 of a given year, under an amendment to a state regulation effective April 10. New Jersey’s wage base for employee contributions the state temporary disability and family leave programs is to increase by nearly four times in 2020, to $131,000 from $34,400, a spokesman for the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development said April 9. New Mexico added an income tax bracket of 5.9 percent for high earners, to take effect in 2021, in a tax-changes bill (H.B. 6) signed April 4 by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D)

  7. In addition to Medlin, I suggest you look at Howell Software which I have used since 1987.

  8. Been using ProSeries (PS) since 1997.. starting using it just for 1040s and in some years after that was using ATX for 1065s, 1120s, 1120Ss. I never had comfort level with ATX back then. It was explained to me that ATX then was basically built upon a giant Excel sheet.. I don't know if it still that way. At some point I switched all my returns to ProSeries. I like how PS to me mirrors the 1040, with drill down, quick zooms to the backup or underlying form or schedule. I started doing returns manually in the mid 1990s, went to Parsons Personal Tax Edge, Preparers edition and Intuit bough them out. That is how I started using PS. Parsons and PS were very much alike in the flow if input and the layout, forms based. PS has a another way to enter data but I use the forms method. I use the PS Professional version. PS has a basic edition but I think more users use the Professional version. Price has been going up and up but discounts can be garnered with some effort. In a effort to conquer ATX users Intuit gave three year discounted prices when ATX had that big problem a number of years ago. This 2018 tax year PS had some issues, the biggest one was some printing crashes. The program would crash sometimes. Printing to pdf first seemed to solve it for most people but I think it is fixed now and PS says it was a Windows issue. Even after a Windows update, some crashes still took place but a lot less I think. I like PS.. not perfect but it has allowed me to grow my practice nicely and I know the software quite well to navigate quickly. I find PS to be very intuitive (get it?) intuitive..

  9. I don't believe the IRS will try again. Their automated system will send your client a letter with a NSF penalty. I think in this situation you need to be proactive and either you or your client needs to call the IRS, explain the situation and ask them what would be the best payment option to resolve this snafu.

  10. When we have a tax return picked up we explain the signature pages and have the client sign. One of the pages verifies their bank info. We have them initial by the account number and sign and date at the bottom. Had a lady who is separated from her husband. His account was listed on her return. Her $800 refund went into his account and he will not give it to her. He is due a $1200 refund. She was really upset with us and wanted us to list her account on his return or call the IRS and have them take it back out of his account. She did sign the form verifying the account.
