  1. I did the same thing this morning, took me nearly 2 hours to print, punch, and prepare a hard copy notebook. I will also be attending Auburn's seminar in Pelham, AL in December. I see people with notebook computers that don't have to print, but the batteries don't last and there are not enough power outlets. The Auburn school is the ages-old "Farm Seminar" developed by U of Illinois decades ago. The material is still well-written, plenty of demonstrative examples which speak to us in plain straightforward language, not some stilted ethereal cumbersome phraseology.

  2. By royal fiat? Anyway, doing what Congress should have, IRS has announced for 2023, filing requirements of 3rd party payers will be the same as 2022. And 2024 will have a $5,000 threshold for issuing a 1099-K (as reported in NY Times)

  3. I have been working with our banks at my day job to create some new accounts. I was surprised to see the BOI form on their new account application. Looks like the banks are collecting so the FinCen folks can cross reference to the reporting by the company. Interesting twist. Tom Longview, TX

  4. I just attended Nebraska's webinar that is the "Farm Seminar" for 16 hours. I remember when I was still in college as an intern, starting our with these and going for years. I always swore that I would not be some of the "old people" dragging around their oxygen and snoring in class. My boss was one of them. I was 19 and I thought that he was probably 80. In retrospect, he was probably 60. LOL I still have another 8 hour tax update next month and any random ones that I can fit in.

  7. I don't do tons of representation, but the information I've gotten from these has been enormously helpful. I've staved off more in-depth audits, I've known exactly how to respond to some of the stranger letters that clients get, I've known more what and how to ask about oddities I see in paperwork. Further, I know exactly when something starts to look like more than I want to handle, and who to contact in that case.

  8. Do you handle much representation? I'm currently doing my securities CE via FINRA due next October. Tax CE is done before vacation after tax season.

  10. I had to schedule a payroll tax deposit today due to the termination of an employee by a client ( Semi Weekly Depositor ). EFTPS now requires your password to be 12 characters or longer so if your old password was shorter you or your client will be forced to change.

  11. Two full days of Webinars attended via Iowa State University. I hope that I am at least a little smarter. A lot to absorb in a couple of long days. However, I am one step closer to Tax Prep Season 2024.

  12. Not so bad this year. Once I got logged in, the download went smoothly. I also received my Record of Completion Credentials today. Tomorrow I can concentrate on cooking.

  13. I have not dug into the definition. Plain language reading, and I am good, personally, with RA or the PO Box's street address, in my case (where I am locally prohibited from using my home address). My DL has the same PO Box on it. My PO Box is my legal business location because of my local rules. The above examples refer to "or" "business street address". I have two possibilities to use, RA or the street address provided by USPS for the PO Box. The first example even specifically mentions if no residential or business street address is available, so fincen has pondered this and offered at least a couple of valid alternatives. next of kin, nope, not doing that, but "another contact individual" looks good for using RA. -- I do get it, some may think why bother. But, when you have had those with mental/moral issues contact you at your residence, you think differently. I am not the only one who lives in our home...

  14. No trouble logging in for the past few years. Yes, they make you change your password sometimes, but that's been working smoothly for awhile. Although ATX blocks your browser from automatically saving the new password, so you have to go into your saved passwords and update it manually.

  16. Yes, the return must be filed and payment made by March 1. They are multiple IRS sources to confirm. In those cases, I politely terminate the call. Then call back and talk to someone else with more knowledge. When I make the initial call, I have a copy of the POA ready to fax the rep on a separate phone line.

  17. I've done a bunch online and will be at the NE IRS Representation Conference Nov 30-Dec 1. I think they still have online "seats" available. It's always fabulous. https://irsrepconference.com/

  18. I did the Auburn University's tax seminar in person a couple weeks ago. I was impressed, and the price was great. Printing a 650 page book was a workout for my printer, but it was cheaper than buying the book. Tom Longview, TX
