  2. You don't need an IRS account to make a payment. At IRS.gov there is a link to make a payment that does not require sign in, just name and last year's filing status I believe.

  3. Yes, I and some of my clients use it to make our estimated payments and it works quite well

  4. I've actually used UNKNOWN for address lines and a zip in the state. Anything that makes it efile!

  5. Actually have Dean, Tony Bennett and others on rotation. I listen to everything, well.. except rap and new country. Has to be old country. Chet Adkins, Merle Haggard, Charlie Pride. And then Judas Priest kicks in !!!!

  7. A new custodian, if the client moved the account less than five years before, is required to use code "T". If they have had the account open long enough (with no recent conversions) I think the workaround is on the 1099-R worksheet. But make sure it qualifies.

  8. For years my electricity bill has been paid via automatic debit from my checking account. Two years ago, I received a past due notice. I had to do some detective work and my utility didn't want to admit what had happened. It turns out they had been using a third party service to handle all of their automatic payments . The third party service had computer problems which skipped 2 days worth of automatic payments. It made me mad because our utility co had never notified us of the use of a third party service. So electronic Payments can malfunction too

  9. It bothers me too because I used to always work with a CD in the drive. And, yes, I do still have a CD drive).

  10. That will do it. As long as it covers the period of the tax deduction I would be fine with it. Personally, I have never asked to see a letter or statement, but know my clients well enough that documentation could be provided; and most are receiving LTC payments. Not to say that is the right way to do it.

  11. Margaret, if you look on the 1099R input Worksheet just below where you are entering data there is a box that says Box 7 including Code J or T. Check this box if a a "Qualifying" Roth Distribution. I had not checked the box ( actually didn't see it originally ) and thus the taxability of the $123 and the inclusion of the 8606. Once I checked the box, no tax and no 8606. Hope this helps

  13. The client received a Masked transcript, where all the issuers information is truncated. He should be able to get a unmasked transcript on The IRS website - "get your tax records".

  14. The 1099R appears to be correct with respect to box 2 showing -0- as taxable. As I said above, line 4a should have $5623 on it, line 4b -0-, and do not fill out or include form 8606 as that would be wrong to do so. Code T is telling you that no penalty applies. I'm curious, is ATX trying to create a form 8606 for this, or is that you trying to use it because it is showing basis there?

  15. Were the charities actually beneficiaries? Most often bequests are made to charities, e.g., give $10k to my church. Any charity of person for that matter that receives a bequest does not get a K-1. K-1s go to those who share in the income and expenses and remainder of the estate.

  16. "T" informs the IRS that the holding period was not met, but the distribution is exempt from the penalty for early withdrawal because it has been paid to a beneficiary. The initial withdrawn contributions are tax-free; however, distributed earnings are taxable." You would have to go back to the issuer of the 1099 R and find out why they used a Code T?

  17. Any address will work and zip codes are easy to look up. I doubt anything other than EIN and Name Control matter. Just pick a zip code in the state and make up an address.

  20. I mailed my Frontier bill on March 13. It was due today. Today I received a late payment notice and the check has not cleared my account. Now we have to be afraid of electronic payments and paper payments as well. Where will it stop?

  21. Was there any withholding on the withdrawals? I had a client that got scammed years ago and one of the very small bright lights was that there was 20% withholding.

  23. Don't overlook the possibility of CNC (Currently Non Collectable). Even if OIC is feasible there is still the 5 year compliance and est tax requirements. CNC will also protect future garnishments of SS benefits.

  26. I can't work anymore with music, even the elevator music. Back in my younger days, I could work statistics problems, long hand on paper while cranking up the rock music.

  27. I always preferred instrumental music during crunch time. Mike Oldfield and Two Siberians were my go to.

  28. Spill the Wine !!! Yes I love the 60's too. In rotation is everything from Benny Goodman to Pink Floyd. Will check out Magical Mystery Doors on YouTube if they are on there. Great band name.

  29. If you like that era and are willing to see tribute bands, I'd highly recommend Magical Mystery Doors. We've seen them several times including last night, and all are very talented musicians. They actually combine songs in unique ways with lyrics of one band's song over instrumental of another band. They cover The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and The Doors. They are local-ish regional to us but are gaining a following farther away now. If you want to see original artists and don't mind slightly older back to the 60s, both Tommy James and Eric Burdon put on awesome concerts and are still high energy shows.

  30. Alas, a whole $12 was withheld for federal, nothing for state. And now another wrinkle: reminiscent of the thread about checking prior year activity and comparing. I asked for the 1099DIV from her investments and a few small ones held alone. The sister found most of the documents and, sadly, it appears as though she liquidated nearly all her investments for about $162,139 with a LT gain of $132,200+ . $92,152 had no basis. I'm not impressed with the broker. I asked for some statements before this began and all the statements for the rest of year to try and see the securities and figure out something. It's so sad that her memory is failing and this situation just overwhelms her. With these transactions (I had only page 1, will get the rest later) she now owes IRS almost just over $5000 if IRS allows it. Ohio is the killer at $25,500. I hope they (client and sister) don't find more. I do want the backup pages but I think we're close. My head and heart hurt for her. She's been with me since 2004.
