The letter will have no bearing on the decisions the IRS makes. Only fact and circumstances.

What calendar are you using?

I want to know how much a 21 year old college student earns to be able to state that she provides more than 50% of her own living? Would have to be $40K if you count all expenses including college, rent, food, car insurance, etc. Not buying it.

That process is leftover from 2012. You can abandon that practice with no worries. 2013 is all new.

Delete the SS# in question and retype it.

Then KINGCHUCK1971 is correct.

The daughter does NOT qualify the mother for EIC. The daughter must pass the test to QUALIFY as a dependent child. She does not. Mom does not get HOH or EIC.

Use the same one you used last year. It does not change.

Not sure if this Window 8.1, ATX or Brother drivers

ATX has posted that ATX13 is not recommended to be used on WIN 8 of any release. This has been announced since November last year. WIN 8 is not a real operating system for anything but touchscreen devices. Note: Developers for WIN 9 are returning back to the traditional style of interface. WIN 8 and VISTA both FAIL!!! -
This means that the update did not properly download the first time. A dozen reasons this may have happened. You did right to try it again.

Hugs to help recover from meltdown!! We DEFINITELY understand and feel your pain!!

ATX2013 is a 32 bit program and cannot access more than 3.2GB or RAM. More RAM may help other programs and computer things, but no help to ATX.

We had tenants in our rental house that were 10 out of 12 months 10-12 days late. Came time to renew their lease, we did not increase the rent, but we tripled the late fees. No problem increasing the rent, because 10 out of the next 12 months, they were 10-12 days late as well. Third year we were going to raise the late fee by 50% again, but they chose not to renew. Walking annuity!! With the increased late fees they were paying much higher rent by their own choice of actions.

My rush fee varies depending upon how much the next return(s) I would normally be doing would bring in. If I bump down on the list a $600 return, the rush fee is $150. Minimum rush fee is $25 and the usual rush fee is $50. Clearly delineated on the invoice. Makes a few change their minds about how quick they need their return...

Warning-Don't Wish For Something-You May Get It

They lie. -
Update the workstation/server first. Then the other workstation. 13.4.2 has not caused us any issues. Do the updates from within the program. This method is solid this year.

How's everbody's hard disk free space tonight?

Those numbers look just fine. Turn your attention back to the returns that make you money!!! -
I do all updates from within the program. I have all workstations set to check for updates when the program is opened. Each workstation is left on 24/7. Each morning, each workstation is rebooted. Each workstation gets rebooted at lunch. The night shift reboots when supper break happens. Total down time for ATX this season is now up to 1 hour 15 minutes since Feb. 1. Had a hardware mechanical issue with the server yesterday which was not related to ATX. Do you have a standalone or a network?
-
Not in the last 27 years!!!
-
No. Install them as soon as they are available. We had a 10 minute issue at the firm when 13.4.1 was installed yesterday. No issues during or after the install midday today. 1080 clients and 1,500 efiles. 556 accepted e-files. Transmitted 60 more today. This season is making me forget the horrors of 2012.

If you open the return on the workstation that caused the lock, it will open. First hand experience with this one. 5 different returns reopened with only a few minutes of work lost. Table was knocked over which yanked the network cables out of the server. Needless to say, those using the program had an error message and had to close. No returns were not recovered.

The brave souls are the ones NOT updating.
