  1. Change banks. Make it known to the branch manager that you are and why you are. Too many banks that will appreciate your business.
  2. The only amounts that can be claimed as alimony are the amounts specifically designated in the divorce decree. Period! We had a client that reported larger amounts to us for several years on his attorney's advice. IRS asked for the decree and disallowed any amounts above what was specifically spelled out in the decree. Most lawyers are clueless about tax law. Do not follow the attorney's advice. IRS sees it differently.
  3. You are one of those that made changes in the Admin Console. Call Tech support and let them correct it.
  4. You are correct. The term server has several definitions and each definition and attribute to the word is different. This confusion of definitions is causing tons of trouble with ATX users who are not as tech savvy as some of the rest of us. ONE MORE TIME!! This error is NOT related to the servers at ATX! The "server program" that is installed on every system and network is the one that cannot be connected to. I keep repeating hoping everyone will read and understand.....
  5. I just spent an hour with the head development tech and the master architect for ATX2013. They went through my systems. I have never moved any file locations in the admin console, and there was NO issue there. If you have moved any thing in the Admin console, there is an app that must be run on your system that will indicate changes that need to be made. As I have repeatedly stated, moving system files in the Admin Console would cause problems, now it is here, live and making itself known. Tech support will need to do the corrections. I have the tools, but I do not have the time to assist with computer issues for people now. There were two other workstation issues concerning updated versions of forms on workstations we corrected as well. One more time... Do not use the admin console unless directed by tech support. 90% of the cases with server retry issues have to do with this very thing.
  6. In the 1980s and 1990s, the IRS was specifically targeting Amway dealers who had reached any step higher than Direct for Audit. They succeeded in "gutting" the empire at the time. Now the truth is, those that got busted deserved what they got. Some of that old thinking still pervades. Just google search it. Lots to be seen out there. Talk to someone who was in Amway in the 80's and 90's and see what they say.
  7. I may copy that wording!! Well spoken and well played!! Tell her to research what the IRS did to Amway... On second thought, don't tell her anything else! You are wise to send her packing.
  8. Paper file the returns and send the taxpayers to this site http://www.irs.gov/uac/Identity-Protection. Only the taxpayer involved can contact the IRS. There are instructions on those pages for who they are to call. From this point on, only the taxpayer involved and the IRS can do the necessary steps. It will take a long time, and be quite a mess till they get finished. Contact the IRS at the Identity Protection Specialized Unit, toll-free at 1-800-908-4490
  9. That is the way it USED to be. http://www.ssa.gov/employer/randomization.html
  10. You know not of what you speak. Forget all you know or knew about last year. 2013 is a totally different program from the bottom up. Issues are cropping up, but it is NOT the same as 2012. Read my previous posts.
  11. http://www.ssa.gov/employer/randomization.html
  12. Your system is backing up. On the computer you are using as the server or your standalone, look in C:program datacch small firm servicesATX 2013 ServerBackup. This is the folder that ATX backs up to every time you close a return. It will store the last 5 times each return is opened and closed. When you do the manual backup to an external source, this is the folder that is duplicated on the external drive. DO NOT make changes in the ADMIN CONSOLE. ATX will be releasing a notice concerning changes being made in ADMIN CONSOLE causing much of the trouble this year.
  13. That process was halted in 2011. It does not apply to any SS# issued since then.
  14. See if she wants to become your assistant.
  15. How would the taxpayer document the "cash equivelant" donations to the organization? Will the Scouts issue her a statement for her contributions with values established? How do scouts get to circumvent all the other charitable contribution regulations?
  16. Why are you using it?
  17. Export only saves client return information. No e-file information or program settings are saved. No preferences etc. The backup file saves the last 5 instance of each return being opened. This is one of the reasons the file is large. When you export, you only get the current version of information in the return. We are over 600 clients at the firm, and have only had one instance where I needed to use the restore function. It worked like a charm. The paranoia of last year needs to be forgotten. If you copy the backup file to external media, and the situation arises that you need to restore from it instead of the program generated one, the program will show the names. I hear paranoia and fear from last year's debacle in your words. No need to be exporting all your clients. Do the backup to the external device as often as makes you comfortable, and save the time you have spent exporting.
  18. Mileage only. The other items mentioned are not donations, therefore, no place to put them.
  19. Line 21, no SE. Passive income.
  20. What process are you using to make your remote device backup? Be specific. How large is the file and how many clients do you have. You misunderstood the process for backing up to a remote device. Each time you perform it, it backs up all returns, document files, program settings and info.
  21. It takes that much space because it is solid and dependable. Previous years do not count.
  22. When you do a manual backup to a remote device, it makes a complete backup of the returns and program information. Depending upon the speed of your USB ports and the external device, this can take a while.
  23. Only once. I ask them to come get their information and take their chances. Only lost 1 client. The following year he was back, with a CP200 and a look of helplessness. His fees are now double what they originally were. I do not have time to play games with people that insult my professional abilities by checking me with Turbo-Tax. If they have a question about the return, I am glad to answer, but don't use a cheap software to challenge me.
  24. IRS regulations were never intended to be fair.
