Form 943 for a farmer who did not withhold FICA
Jack from Ohio replied to Jack from Ohio's topic in General Chat
Just spoke to them again. He now wants me to put codes M & N in box 12 with the non-withheld amounts there. Is this a viable option? I see these codes on W-2 from GM for taxable benefits, but the amounts are never more than $2-$3. I am more and more considering sending this guy down the road. My liability is what I am concerned with here. Preparer accuracy. Since I KNOW the situation, what do regs require me to do? -
Form 943 for a farmer who did not withhold FICA
Jack from Ohio replied to Jack from Ohio's topic in General Chat
I should add that there were NO Federal or State taxes withheld either. NO withholdings at all. -
I have a new personal client that has 3 W-2 employers. They did not withhold any SS or Medicare from the pay of the workers. They simply want me to calculate the full amount and they will pay both halves on the 943. I responded that income on each W-2 would have to be bumped up for each worker in the amount the farmer paid for the half what was supposed to be deducted. "That was not the way we did it last year. We just paid the total amount on the 943 and did not change the W-2 amount. They then asked about issuing 1099s instead, and I warned them of the possible problems with changing the workers, as they are definitely employees by several definitions. He then said he would call me back. Now he wants me to create W-2s with $0 amounts in boxes 4 & 6 and let each employee take care of the unwithheld amounts on their personal tax returns, and to submit the 943 with only the employer's share of SS & Medicare shown. I have never proceeded in this manner before. My gut is telling me that I will create more problems by filing the 943 as they wish than issuing 1099s. Are there regulations preventing the filing of the 943 as they are suggesting? I have to override the fields to accomplish this. Anyone else ever dealt with this issue? I am open to suggestions.

ATX has to wait for approval from each state for the paper filed returns. This does NOT affect e-filed returns. This is common as the states seem to take their sweet time to get approvals out.

All expenses are startup costs that are amortized 15 years in 2013. You are overthinking this one.

You have not tried in a long time. There is now a link to reset your password on the login page.

I just made 6% on my money that I invested in Forever Stamps last week. When was the last time you made 6%?

I just wish everyone would participate! It is easy to complain, but unless people submit the suggestions, I don't think they should be able to complain. The CAB meeting was to inform CCH/ATX of the feelings and concerns of their customers. Ours were 8 voices and we spoke very intently about many things. However, unless there are a substantial number of others that make suggestions, it will get no attention. Case in point, ATX2013 is not 64bit compatible. This means that the program can only access a little over 3GB of your RAM. It also is not capable of accessing all the capabilities of a 64bit processor. I have been pushing this "inequity" so hard that I was "rebuffed" for my intensity. I kept asking why the "recommended" hardware was 64bit yet the program was not capable of accessing the 64bit capability. I never did get an answer, and the 64bit question is "under review for possible future implementation." Voices of their customers will have far more weight if there are enough. Some of the major points we talked about at the CAB meeting had only received a few hundred suggestions from ATX users. ATX is stating they have 20,000 users, so a few hundred is "too small a subset for us to be concerned about." Point is: Make your suggestions known and make them known often.

Contact me again. I have a workaround that will work until the update comes out. If you are having hard drive space issues, you need to use the workaround until the update comes out. I have no information about when the update will happen.

Go to the MYATX website, and submit this as a suggestion. The more people that insist, the sooner it will become reality. If you remain silent, you will not be helping. At the CAB meeting, we learned how FEW people ever sent suggestions. As long as no one speaks, the idea will be ignored.

Program encountered an unexpected error and needs to close

You can always "sycnronize with EFC" to get efile information back to current. Using system restore should not change program data files. -

DO NOT make changes to file placement or structure. Leave all files and folders in the place the program installed them. A/V and tax software do not get along. Be certain you have listed all CCH/ATX folders to be ignored by the A/V. I would say the A/V was the culprit. -

Were you opening the program or a return? Is your system standalone or network? Had all the current program updates been installed? Did you make any changes to the file placement or structure? Have you told your anti-virus program to ignore all the ATX/CCH folders and files? More information please? -
Let me know how that works for you. This is an entirely different backup the program creates. This one cannot be disabled, and runs in the background as long as the computer is on. TRUST ME!!! Too indepth to try to explain on here. When your C drive starts getting full, remember what I am saying.

You guys let me know how that works for you.

You cannot disable the automatic backup feature that is causing the problem. Trust me. 2013 is NOTHING like previous years.

In Return Manager, click Returns in the toolbar, then click change printer. This setting overrides the computer default setting. -
Obviously you did not have any need to restore last year. If he restores from the backup file, the data WILL be corrupt. There are other methods, but are too long an complicated to post here. ATX2012 program is incapable of creating a backup file that is not corrupt. It was a major source of issues last year when people tried to restore after reinstalling the software. If he gets access to the files on the old hard drive, he should call tech support for the proper method of recovering the returns in the 2012 program.

Check your messages.

I would not recommend the restore from the backup folder in 2012. The backup folder will be, and always will be corrupt. You will lose returns. Trust me on this one.

My internet opens back to the place I was whenever a reboot happens. Just a minor inconvenience. -
The standard rate is $5 per square foot. Fill in the 8829 and get that number. Then take the office square footage times $5, and voila, your comparison. Standard rate max is $1,500.

It will fill the hard drive on your computer. I am talking about the backup file the program makes.
