i did recently, the guy spend a whole day here [maybe he found the bar] for a plumbing contractor with 3 employees, he asked a lot of questions which i needed the client to respond to and that was the end of it. he will check payment rates, look at contracts for prevailing wage compliance and that the payroll benefit submissions whichn the client prepares matches the payroll

I disagree, i would put all in the same envelop, maybe even call the irs first so that you havea name to send the returns [or copies too] I assume 1099's were never issued or the irs would have found the kid first. tell them you have a first time filer who didn't understand the requirements and now wants to come clean, besides the taxes he has your fees too. if you get to the right agent they can accept the returns and stop the penalties. this has worked for me when the kids first take over the tax requirements for their aging parents. the big thing is you coming forward before they found him.

DEPENDS ON STATE LAW -
my new admin asks why i keep my Johnny Blue, Macallan 18 and Glenlivit on my credenza since we have a bar in the conference room. i had to explain that its a subtle hint of my preferneces to the clients that bring me bottles. Of course my staff likes when i get vodka or wine since i mostly pass them out to the staff.

"Come on, the debate is over. Electronic filing is vastly superior on so many levels, including taxpayer protections. Tell them that you now electronically file all returns as required by law. All preparers are subject to the same law, so if the client doesn't like it he can either find someone with a minimal sideline practice or he can do it himself" i was a long time hold out but fell under the NYS mandated efile. I don't think its simpler for the preparer-you need to discuss the option with client and then they have to decide electronic payments vs paper checks, of course many say it depends if they owe or refund so you have to contact clients 2x. then you have to send a draft which i mostle pdf, then password protect then email with theauthorization forms or send the actual return with the authorization forms, you need to keep a log of each step too. then if it doesn't go through you have to play with the return or send paper copies with opt-out forms [NYS] to the client. you also have to keep checking for efile tranmissions and acceptances for your log. used to be you do a return, print it mail it and wait for a check. Then of course there are the NYC entity returns which ATX does not efile so i am sending them copies of efiled federal and state put paper NYC corp returns to paper file. This just confuses soo many taxpayer. I will say that by the second or third year, once you know the clients preferences then it does make things easier. but in the first years the only one benefiting are the administrative staff for less collating. all the firms i know are charging efiling fees since its mandated here in ny and adds so much to the task of preparing a return. I get $25-50 depending on the client. To support Jainan, i have heard some clients like efile so much they are adding fees to clients that want to paper file instead of those that want to efile.

xThe first man married a woman from Pennsylvania . He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away. The second man married a woman from Indiana He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done and there was a huge dinner on the table. The third man married a girl from THE SOUTH. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he urinates.

anyone know off hand if the solar credit is a refundable credit? i have client that doesnt pay taxes and was wondering if the credit would be refunded to him
-
i would not put down mileage to zero it out, that is a deduction he can't substantiate and now you have to add a car etc. we have lots of these for doctors that get checks from insurance companies and owe it back to their employer. put on line 21 and then show the next line as paid back to employer under requirements of contract

factor in their credit card interest charges that could be minimized too!

most payroll companies allow up to 8 different accounts for direct deposit-thats another way to get the money into savings.
-
WHY would you have a client increase their withholding only to get a refund. why should the gov't earn the interest and have the use of the money. when a client tells me they like big refund checks i have them onpen a savings account and transfer to it every paycheck.

ONCE had a bank clerk tell me that i can't just use my first initial-i told her to tell that to JF Kennedy or J Edgar Hoover and see there reaction. A sig can be anything you want it to be as long as it matches each time.

i wrote to atx abut this in 2007 2008 and 2009-i am still waiting for a response.

What most people don't realize is that democracy does not elect the best person, it elects the most average since everyone votes for those that represent their beliefs and not what is best for the country. As for taxes, i think everyone should pay something otherwise they have no incentive to be prudent and since people elect those that give them "bread & circuses" the more liberal polititians are the most popular with those that do not pay taxes. i could argue for many systems of taxation but probably the most fair would be a flat percentage like sales tax so everyone pays at the same rate. i know it hurts the poor people but taxes should not be a social program. they should pay like everyone else and other programs could be developed to help them [such as housing subsidies and food stamps etc.]
