  1. The additional columns would be more useful if ATX calculated the reduced child tax credit as kids turn 17. Also putting in an inflation factor screws up the child tax credit by applying inflation to the credit. Off to the official forum to let them know!
  2. It's been suggested in the official forum multiple times to let us choose the number of columns. If you have a PDF editor and patience you can delete the unwanted columns. I've done it twice in years past but I'm just spending the toner and printing it all this year, because everyone is getting one.
  3. I've asked MD to consider it before, but they replied that they would then have to verify 1098s and they didn't have that info. Nothing else on Sch A is really verifiable with information forms and the states usually don't allow state income tax as a deduction. MD standard deduction has been unchanged for decades. That's the real problem.
  4. Singles with standard deduction (both young and old) are getting small tax cuts. Married, sold middle class, with multiple kids and modest itemized (16k) are seeing the base tax go up by 750 - 1k (due to losing 4 or 5 personal exemptions), but offset by 2k child tax credit... until the kids start hitting 17. And no one has hit the 10k SALT limit or had 2% items. Those come later. Biggest concern, standard deduction folks are seeing withholdings go down by more than their actual tax decrease. Example, older married couple, no kids, tax decrease was 800 but withholding decrease was 1,300. Not bad if taxpayer normally gets big refund, but this couple gets a small refund.
  5. I did one last year for a family partnership that owned a large farm, that was sold after both parents died. A trust was created when dad died, and an estate when mom died, and the trust dissolved on mom's death and was split to the kids... yeah, I likely screwed this up but the end result looked reasonable?
  6. Maybe we should map the point that results in the shortest distance for most of us and see if any of us are near that point. Going to Dollywood is not really my thing, although with this group of wackos, it could be a very memorable experience!
  7. This might help. https://support.cch.com/sfs/solution/Unable-to-view-returns-in-Rollover-Manager-in-a-standalone-install-of-ATX-2013-through-2016
  8. Freezes are often due to security software. Turn those off for awhile and see if it improves. Also, keep task manager open and see if it's your disk bogging down or CPU.
  9. Yeah, I've had that a lot over the years. I can almost always x out and keep rolling... but not always.
  10. Did you update to 17.3? Did you delete the temp folder?
  11. I think it might be fixed in latest version. I just deleted my entries and it's fine. Oddly enough, these folks were retired NJ cops who thought they'd qualify for the subtraction.
  12. I noticed that. I made some entries and it went away. Not really sure why but I got the zero I wanted. Have you reported this to ATX? Don't you mean 502SU?
  13. The more you know.... the more you wish you had become a sound engineer for music.
  14. Time to call support! Good luck! From ATX Knowledge Base: https://support.cch.com/sfs/solution/15660
  15. Did you try running 16 and opening a few returns? If your 16 server is running, not sure what it could be. Run the 16 admin console.

  17. Damn! I could've gotten a free banana split!
  18. With ATX, we're all just stumbling around in the dark finding new places. Unless you read the user's guide... which I probably ought to do someday. Probably be good to just read the table of contents and index!
  19. My AMT clients haven't shown up yet, but thanks for the heads up! Now if ATX would only let you pick the number of columns you wanted, we could all save a lot of toner!
  20. Just came down late last night. I ran it on my Test Client file and it looks good. The new higher income limits for child tax credit helped on this test file, as did the QBI deduction. And even though the actual tax was higher, the child and family tax credits reduced the tax by almost 60%.
  21. I love eServices and have used it since the 90s. It makes being a tax pro much more enjoyable, and clients are impressed by my inside access to the IRS.
  22. Scrapple is the food of the gods! I describe to newbies as 'rustic paté.
  23. I changed my cellphone number awhile ago because too many clients were calling it and texting me. I removed it from my business cards and emailed every client explaining why. Call my land line, leave a message. Or send an email. We can save voice messages to the client's folder. I keep hoping someday I'll get to play one back for a client.
