  1. Correct, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Processor is Intel Core i5-2320, 3.0 GHZ..
  2. I just upgraded my computer system to keep up with new "recommended" system for 2013. I was still on XP so need to upgrade within a year anyway. I purchased a system with an i5 processor, 8 ram, and 1 T. hard drive. (A complete Dell with monitor, keyboard mouse and speakers... purchased online thru OfficeMax for 599.00) I loaded ATX 2011 and 2012 and transfered all files.. updated windows etc. I find that ATX opens in 1/2 the time it does on my XP. (still no where near as fast as Drake at 5 seconds on my XP ) And the returns I have opened open faster also. Again still not as fast as Drake opens returns. I am completely up-to-date with ATX. I will take time this summer to analyze ATX's performance on the new machine as well as work with Drake Software before I make my final decision. Drake has a lot to offer for the price.. ATX still needs work. Time will tell.
  3. Updating to Windows 7 means upgrading laser printer also... correct? My HP laser printer works fine, and the toner is very inexpensive... would like to keep it if I can. If not, what printers would you recommend?
  4. Is the the Ultratax, Thompson Reuters? In Dexter Michigan? I understand they charge extra for each efile. Great software but pricey... I would be interested if a deal could be worked out...for a good price and package... taxtrio [email protected]
  5. I'm standalone, XP Pro, ... updated to 12.15 last nite. Seems faster.... i opened one large return.. opened faster than I remembered from last time. But, there is a new "dialogue" box when you exit the program that show return backup process... It said it was backing up items that had changed since last back up. But it was backing up almost 400 of my clients and it took it almost an hour to do it. After that I went back into ATX and closed again. This time no delay while backing up... Maybe this was just a one time thing; a new type of backup??? I wish ATX had warned me to expect this the first time after updating... but seems ok now. Taxtrio
  6. It seems a lot of the ATX site is not functioning today. I just tried to get into the download center, just get an error. Tried to get to the community board... error... can't even get to the login screen... hmmm?
  7. Friends of mine that use Proseries from intuit had acknowledgement problems also. Look at the IRS posts, high volumes of tax returns sent on april 15th.
  8. Page 2 of Sch E, tabs at bottom; one is the list of all partnerships. Found what I needed there.

More information please: How do I "Copy the ATX database client files "?
  11. Back in my HR Block days a young couple expecting their first child came in get their taxes done. The husband was very attentive to his wife, occasionally she would tense up and he would grab her hand. I asked them if anything was wrong; he responded that his wife was in labor and they had stopped in to have their taxes done before going to the hospital. Fastest return I every prepared!
  12. Didn't the IRS say they have to "physically have the returns" by 4/15/2013 for the 2009 to be timely filed? Used to be just had to be "postmarked" by April 15th??
  13. Enter just the subtotals for each category of trades from Scottrade statement. Then use code "M" for attaching brokerage statement in ATX input. Then you can scan and attach a pdf copy of the scottrade stmt to the efile and you are all set. Or: You can send a copy of the Scottrade stmt to IRS with 8453.
  14. You close the return, Mark the return (left side check box). Click on returns(tab top left). Look down the drop down menu to find Update forms, click on that and follow directions.. It will update all forms in that individual return, fixing any corrupted forms you may have. Might help.

    refund-aoc

In the taxbook, 1040 Edition Plus; page 12-3. Right column, paragraph that says Refundable portion. Says Taxpayers under age 24 cannot claim any part of the credit as refundable if the following "conditions" (plural) apply to them. 1. The taxpayer is: a. Under age 18 at the end of the tax years, or b. Age 18 at the end of the tax year and had earned income of less than one-half of his or her support, or c. A full-time student over age 18 and under age 24 at the end of the tax year with earned income of less than one-half of his or her support. 2. At least one of the taxpayer's parents was alive at the end of the tax year, and 3. The taxpayers is filing, single, HH, QW, or MFS for the tax year. My note now: Above says "conditions" so all 1, 2, and 3 would have to appy for them not to qualify. not just #2. Right? What say you all?
  16. The IRS requires the taxpayer include the payment on their behalf in income. Not the choice of HRB. It actually is stated in the paperwork for peace of mind "guarantee" that if amount paid is 600.00 or more that they will get a 1099MISC for it. I am a former HRB person... abandoned ship over 10 years ago... but I remember when the IRS came down with this ruling.... we weren't happy about it then, and the clients are not happy either. As usual; even if it was explained to them at the time of purchasing the peace of mind they either don't remember or didn't understand the conditions.
  17. My fear is this: Will the software I change to be going thru a similar "upgrade" as ATX is going thru... I would not want to go thru this again! Taxwise is the next to go thru this transition.... will they have the same problems next year? What about Pro Series, or Drake... are they going to have to "upgrade" to a new platform that will work better with the IRS system??? Questions, Questions!!
  18. Last year the 8949 was located at the bottom of the sch D... was not a separate form in ATX... now they made it a "separate" form on the menu listing... So we are all having to add it back in. I thought it was more convenient at the bottom of the Sch D. It's like an extention of the sch d anyway. Should have left it the same as 2011, like a lot of other stuff.
  19. Sometimes a client wanders off and tries Turbo Tax, or another preparer... I find it isn't long before the return. Sadder but hopefully wiser! They usually apologize for leaving when they call and ask if they can come back. I always welcome them... they usually learn their lesson and are back to stay. Taxtrio
  20. No, I've got that down pat. What I miss is, for example: Making an Itemized list behind Utilities, that automatically adds up the amounts and brings them forward to the input screen. Etc.
  21. Lists are gone from Sch E rental input. You can right click and make a note... not as good, but it is what it is for now.
  22. I am on XP, I tried to exclude the items on this list.. first two ... ok. Last three on the list give an error message.."file does not exist" ??
  23. Look at the forms update report.
  24. I understand that support does work on Sunday's. I see them answer post's on the community board at all hours. They just don't answer the phones on Sunday to work on answering the customer support emails, and fax in questions. Don't think they are not working just because they are not answering the phone. I just fax them my questions or problems... I also post on the official community board and have gotten answers from the support people who monitor the posts on the board. I don't even try to reach them by phone.. I'm too busy with appointments. Taxtrio
