I just pulled this post off of that "other" board: Since I could not find anything about this issue on the website, I thought I would perhaps save you a few minutes (or several) on the phone with ATX over the recent "Server Error" issue. Here's what was explained to me...During recent server maintenance Servers at ATX were set to receive only mode meaning you could send e-files to ATX but they could not receive updated ACK info from the taxing authorities...As a results Acks are behind. ATX has reallocated a large number of servers to updating outstanding ACKs and a smaller number of servers to receive e-files until the outstanding ACKS are updated. Those of you getting a server error (myself included) are getting the equivalent of an Internet busy signal when you try to send e-files to ATX because most servers are being allocated to receiving outstanding ACKS from tax authorities at the moment....NOT receiving created e-files from software users When that process is finished...you are supposed to be able to send and receive as normal per ATX...and no I have no idea how long that will be. I had four go through; the middle one get rejected in bright red and the last ones just failed to transmit. Of course, we know that the traffic is heavy; but if it were not for this board we would all be stressing out worse than we are.

I filed an Extension and received several acks about an hour ago.

John said it very well. Many of us have clients that don't fit the mold. Each of us has to pick and choose according to our consciences. I have had a few this year who have pushed me too far and got themselves fired. No, John, I did not reconsider. I might try to put together some numbers for the "son" just in case as he hasn't picked up his stuff yet. May file an extension for him so that I can sleep, but will not allow them to come back next year if I decide to continue with this crazy business.

BUT, I had one today who came in with her mother. She was going to claim herself. She only made $964. I asked the Mom why she didn't claim her and Mom said "because she is 20!" I said, "but, who supported her and of course Mom did. Unfortunately, Mom's husband has already filed "on the Internet" so I filed girl without claiming herself and will have to amend Mom and her Husband after the load lightens. In any case, the daughter would not qualify for the stimulus rebate, would she? So, nobody will get that, but the Mom can sure use that lost exemption. Or, am I reading this wrong?

YES, YES, YES and YES....on the bottom of the 4868 page there is an option for E-File Info. Fill it out as you would an 8879 for a regular return. When you click on E-File at the top of the return, it will give you the option for Fed, 4868 and State. Choose 4868 only. It will then create an E-file for only the 4868 which you can transmit. Yes, you can either e-file or paper file the return later.

I just had a can of beer and feel MUCH better. The server is working. I just filed several returns and got several acks back. Cheers....two stragglers coming in within the hour.

Nope, Tom. If that is the case, they don't want me either because I am their dear valued customer both in e-mail and paper mail and I have purposely not been making any comments about the software; which is actually performing extremely well.

Yes, we all should know our limitations, but unfortunately we don't find out what they are until the second week in April. I fired 3 clients this AM; 2 because they don't want to pay (have no money) and the 3rd is the son and brother that I have not even started on. Told Mom to send son to pick up all of the stuff. Seems like every other return I am filing these days is an extension, including my own. I hear Silverbelle loud and clear.

In Wisconsin, if a Federal extension is filed; a Wisconsin extension is automatically granted. Check the laws of your state.

George, is it always on the same computer? I know that if I switch from desktop to laptop and vice versa, I have to log in, but only the first time....Just a thought.

I really hate the new one and so do my clients. What a waste of time, paper, toner, etc. Everyone loved the MINI. In fact, a couple of days ago, I e-mailed ATX and told them that I would renew immediately if they assured me that the mini organizer would be back. Here is the reply that I got that says exactly "nothing".. Hi Marilyn, My name is Barb and I have been with ATX since 2003 and I do understand what you talking about with the mini organizers and I will mention that again. I miss then as well. However I have starting using the regular organizer and have got use to them and sometimes like then better but I still miss the mini ones. That was some vague message about the name not being in the database. It doesn't even jump you to the place on the form where the error is. I, too, have given up and have paper filed all Partnerships so far. And, I update every day also.

WI always sends a 1099G showing the amount of refund received. The others are correct in that you claim it in the year it is received....

This is definitely the Home Place. Ever since Eric took us under his wing, the companionship and comraderie have been awesome except for a very few instances. We came together and I believe that most of us will stay together HERE! In the past couple of weeks I have had the pleasure of telling other ATX users that I know about this site. It is amazing that so many have never found us and also that so many have.

I have more and more people using Direct Debit as well as Direct Deposit and liking it. In their situations, the bank account info is entered. Often they have a refund on either Fed or State and owe the other so they like the offset and they like the idea of being able to choose the withdrawal date.

I just took a look at the "Other" board. KC's post IS still there. However, getting into that board was like trying to get into my locked car when the keys are hanging in the ignition. Had to go through the process of changing my password, etc, etc, etc....I guess I feel sorry for the moderator over there as she may not have a clue. On the other hand, KC expressed, very politely, what we all feel. Too Little, Too Late!

Have been asked this question many times over they years. The answer is Absolutely NOT. It has to be a post-secondard accredited education institution. Have even had people tell me that some preparers will deduct tuition paid to parochial schools as a charitable donation. WRONG!

Leave it to them to latch onto a good thing and bleed the masses. I am doing them gratis for anyone who asks.

You beat me to it. I have that printed and in my file and could not operate without it. I have seen so many people today that I cannot see straight. Are we ever allowed to take an early night off? At least they are starting to pick some of their stuff up.
