Me too! A frantic client I hadn't been able to get hold of this weekend just woke me up and a delivered the last prepared return. Got a few more extensions off. Assistant is at the IRS with a protective claim and will be in to work up extension for a new client that just sent in his stuff. And I'm going back to sleep for a while.

and why can't we get a few acknowledgements?

Yes. I haven't held any states for the last two days. The IRS is backed up, but I've gotten CA ACKs quickly. Your state may vary. -
I had to replace my rollers in the middle of my scan-fest, but it was about a normal years worth of scanning in two weeks. And the scanner was already a year old!

Residence converted to rental--am I missing something?
joanmcq replied to JJStephens's topic in General Chat
You're not missing anything. Sounds like he gets his financial advice at the same bar or barbershop where our clients get their tax advice. -
Not me, my bank account is pretty flush right now.

Did you open up the return to print one after printing the other and the return wasn't marked complete? If you did before printing the 8879, that's probably what efiled.

Is done. I gotta remember what I tell my clients: if you owe it means you made money! I can go to bed now.

I have a Scansnap1500 too, and the footprint is so tiny I have it on top of a table that's only about 15 inches square and when it's folded up, I've got room to spare. Scans duplex automatically, fast, fast, fast. So easy to use I was scanning stuff within minutes, and I never got the hang of using the flatbed that's on my HP multiuse printer. I literally scanned all my back paper files in two weeks time at the beginning of the season, stopping only to let it or alternately, the shredder cool down.

Clients are responsible for sending ones with checks. I'm bowing out at this point.

Two more to go unless any more drop out of the woodwork. One of the two is mine. The other is HIGHLY complicated. That's extensions not returns.

I had clients stop by to pick up their returns this afternoon, and on has MS, so we just sat down on the chairs I have on the lawn to sign the returns. They brought me cookies. Both dogs and two cats came by for pets. It was nice. One more pick up today. About 10 more extensions to go.

ATX 2012 Needs to Be Fixed as It will affect us in 2013 as Well
joanmcq replied to joelgilb's topic in General Chat
ATX is in Atlanta. -
And you wonder why SS is in trouble. The ones like Randall's client are the ones that irk me the most. Bitching about 'welfare leeches' when all he needs to do is look in the mirror.

Yeah, occasionally I poke my head up, "oh, North Korea is threatening to nuke us? Whatever." And back to the pile of paper. Going to get the mail, I noticed my irises are blooming. Big beautiful purple ones.

I have something like 100 extensions. Ugh. Still cranking them out, and getting two difficult ones in tomorrow, plus work out my own.

I think there's a feature in Outlook that allows a return receipt. But I haven't figured it out.

Dad probably doesn't give him too much information since the kid could go and drain all the accounts. That was always the problem with UGMA accounts; kids had full access to the money upon maturity, usually age 18 but sometimes age 25.

About two weeks ago I picked up tax docs from a client that was in the hospital. I finished the return, but couldn't deliver it because he had been released and I couldn't get a moment to go out. I've been meaning to call his spouse to pick them up..today spouse calls me, and comes by " needing to get this done in case". Jesse's crying while he signs and says the liver's failing, and causing the kidneys to fail. Infection is back. He's trying to get all the affairs in order. I told him to let friends take over, and be by his partner's side. Long time clients, good good people. Yes, sometimes we are more than just tax preparers. And if anyone tries to tell me this couple isn't married, I'll smack them.

Maybe it's TOD in case the student dies?

The tax program doesn't check SSNs. The W-2 synergy with Accuwage does. How would you be able to file illegals if a wrong W-2 rejected?

I'm on 3.5 hours of sleep; I had clients coming in at 1 so I had to get up. I did get up to a bunch of emails and efile authorizations back, attesting to my work done last night. And checks in the mailbox! I think I'm at an all time high for gross receipts and definitely for clients; I had 282 total last year and I'm up to 264 already, with some rollovers ad zero extensions to go. And more new ones (filing their own extensions) coming in after I get back from vacation.
-
I have less than 300 returns in the manager. But that includes adding the 8878 and creating a PDF file of it or printing it too. And creating the efile. I was zipping right along last night. The thing that is slowing me down is the efile authorization for extensions. That's a pain in the butt. I'd have all the extensions done if I didn't have to send that to the client and wait for it to come back.

12.13 is faster. But if your system is running XP, how old are the machines? ATX has always been a memory hog. My prompt to update is when ATX slows to a crawl. Last did it in 2009. My extensions take about a minute to do.

You probably have a corrupt form. Try using the replace forms in return feature in the return manager.
