  1. I know that for me, the more returns I've opened during one program session increases the memory useage, and printing seems to be an area where memory leaks, since I've noticed increases just from printing alone. Sometimes I can get to 1.2GB ok, but printing so etching will throw it over the top. I pushed my envelope last night by trying to print a return when I was over 1GB and crashed. It's a huge return, and I just wanted the thing printed before I went to bed. One thing that does work for me is continually gathering data about what works for me and what doesn't and incorporating that into how I work. Which is a lot easier if you're the only one in the program, I'll admit.
  2. Tomorrow I'll pick up a return from a long time client who's in the hospital down the street. Hit the bank too, and get groceries. Then back to the salt mines. My assistant is bringing me a plate from her Easter dinner. She got a ton of stuff keyed today, so my night will be finishing them up and working on the stack of partially completed returns. And more are coming in, but they have extension written all over them!
  3. Welcome NYTaxLady! I think we're the only 'underground' ATX board, but by the amount of people that came on here when the tech support message said to check the knowledge base & community board, maybe the official board is more underground. Lol. And thank you for not pillorying me. Ya know, I never said that ATX was fixed, nor did the article. It said ATX has its fans, and quoted me. Joel put that "ATX is fixed" headline on his posts. BTW, I found that 12.12 sped up the print manager quite a bit, so you might want to go on to it. mcb using win7 home blows my theory of that being the difference out of the water. Damn, I thought maybe I was onto something.
  4. Marilyn, are you running Win7 Pro? So far that's now the only difference I might be able to find between big shiny new computer not working vs. working. Or maybe just having the patience to work with it like Rich did. I was looking to do a peer to peer but couldn't figure out how to hook up the laptop to mine. I was told I couldn't remote into Win7 from XP. Now it doesn't matter, and I'm working overnight, and my assistant is coming in at 8 so we can trade off. Would I like to be in bed now? Yes! But I got too much work to do.
  5. It is a lovely dawn!
  6. I know the networks are screwed. I'm just trying to find out what the common denominator is between those of us on standalone s that aren't having issues, and those on standalones that aren't.
  7. I'm having my assistant come in at 8am to take over for me, giving her some of the easier returns to key in. I only have one computer with ATX on it, so I'm going to bed at 8 when she comes in. Lucky she's a morning person & I'm not. I still have a but load of returns that haven't been touched yet.
  8. I got a corrected one that is for a consolidated 1099 - with three different accounts, mind you with the same brokerage - and it's on a regular old 1099 form. With one account number in the box. It doesn't tie to ANY numbers on the original consolidated 1099s for any account and is accompanied by a letter referring to a fund that was sold but paid no dividends per the consolidated 1099. So I ask the client. She has no clue, and asks her broker. The broker sends two emails back, and the second says it has to do with the third account, not the one that was on the corrected 1099. And has no clue about the letter, and said, no, that fund paid no dividends. Arrrghhhh!
  9. The input is still a little slow, but I type trades pretty slow since I don't want to have to go back and look for errors.
  10. I wish. I only get to enjoy Easter when it falls outside of tax season, I think once every 11 years or so. I hope someone cooks me a ham.
  11. Can't you attach it as a PDF?
  12. That's why I upgraded for the 2009 season; the laptop wasn't doing it anymore. Slow. It was good enough in 2005, but wasn't up to snuff by 2008, so I made sure to get the beefiest biz computer I could afford, to make sure it would last for at least 5 years. mcb, are you running win7 Pro? I'm starting to wonder if that is the difference between those of us without big issues, and those with that have fast processors, lots of memory, and win7 64bit. My laptop grinds to a halt with iTunes. 100% of CPU. So I know it's not just ATX that's a memory hog.
  13. Yeah, that was the 2011 1040, which was put in as a placeholder back in the beginning of January when the IRS didnt have a 2012 1040 available. It looks like your client hasn't update forms or the program since then.
  14. Ugh, I've had two. Last one, I got an endoscopy as a bonus during the procedure. That's when they stick a tube done your throat and look at your esophagus and stomach too. I hope they didn't use the same scope :0
  15. And the ATX is Fixed! Is Joel's addition; I never said that. So I'm also being pilloried for an insinuation I didn't add. Someone over there also pulled out comments I made somewhere and reported them along with my screen name on the other board. I didn't appreciate that. Maybe I've been spending too much time on Tax Almanac where "search the yellow box" is an accepted answer to any question that been reiterated over and over. If that was the case on the ATX board, it wouldn't be so hard to search for an answer there amidst the many posts of "ATX is soooo slow" and "my assets have disappeared." Kudos to NYTaxLady for trying to make the fixes & workarounds easier to find.
  16. I'm back, and yes I've checked the other ATX board, and often. I was approached to comment for the article because I was one of the people that didn't seem to be having problems and the author wanted another opinion. He stated that networks seemed to be having the most problems. I did tell him I was on a standalone, and a win7 64 bit platform. So the 32 bit is not an issue for me. Maybe because I'm running Win7 professional and not Home? Pro runs XP virtual; I don't think home does. I don't know. He didn't quote all of my comments. I didn't say all of the issues were user based. Right now I can get a large return open & printed quicker than in 2011. My own return has always been a 'go out and get another cup of coffee' return in any of the ATX years. Not so now. And at the beginning of the season, people clogged the tech lines with the most inane of issues. How many times did all of us over here start to chime "read the manual!"?
  17. If the loader doesn't close, you can close it manually from the task manager too.
  18. Here is my username, and my picture. I gave the writer MY experience this year. I'm sick of whiners, conspiracy theorists and people that can't use a little bit of common sense and self reliance. There are quite a few people that aren't having crashes, missing assets, and damn, even my printing isn't so slow now. Although I did mention sloe printing as being an issue. So quit yer bitching and come back to the real world, thank you.
  19. Keep an eye on your memory useage by keeping the task manager open, and when it gets near whatever your max is (mines about 50% of memory, close the program down and restart. I only crash when I've gone over that.
  20. Here too, but I'm on 12.12. One thing with 12.12 is that the program opens a lot faster, so closing down isn't as much of an issue.
  21. American Spirit, blue box. Hey, not everyone is having issues.
  22. I'm not talking about the separate FAM, but the one built into the program. Haven't had any issues with disappearing assets or schedules like Randall.
  23. I do the kids for cheap as long as they are kids. After that, they qualify with the rest of my clients for the 'early bird special' for an EZ return, or a discount if they have EIC or student loan interest or some thing else minimal. And you've got to get me your stuff early, first week of February or earlier. Otherwise it's full price.
  24. No, it's the one in the program.
  25. If you're on the west coast, call after 5pm. I get through in less than 2 minutes then.
