Services for a rental is if it is a hotel, B&B or such that it falls under Sch. C reporting rather than Sch. E. you can choose to report rentals as a p'ship, but don't have to.
-
The IRS ones don't say 1099-int, but that's what they are. Just report it as interest.
-
Maine, you are speaking from conjecture again. If you are spinning theories, please label them as such. Not as facts.

Hey Ron, since you and I seem to be having similar experiences with ATX, how is 12.11 working for you? I've been chugging along with 12.10 for the last week.

Good article about ATX in the Progressive Accountant

I'm not talking about the schema changes. I'm talking about parts of forms or entire forms not being transmitted, like the Intuit MN debacle, which BTW, I heard is much more than just MN, but MN finally stood up and bitched. Neither Lacerte or Drake are transmitting Form 8958, nor are they issuing error messages when transmitting a return with that form included. Yeah, I don't like my program freezing or crashing, or trying to figure out how to enter rental income. But my 8958s transmitted! -
Yes, the IRS does issue 1099 s. maybe only if the interest is over $10. I've had a few of them when we amended back years.

I'm not saying the programming is not an issue, but there has never been as late a problem with basic forms as this season, including the amount of things effected. Sure there are always form changes. But not to the scope of this year, and at as late a date. Load that on top of a new platform, and it's disaster. Would it have been a disaster without the added form issues? I don't think anyone will know. There have been transmission errors with all of the tax software companies (with perhaps the exception of Ultra Tax & Prosystems fx-I havent heard of any with those two very pricey programs) including the sainted Drake. All these programs had to do was fix their forms & software. If it was so simple, why is every company screwed this season? -
Yes.

Shouldn't it be a positive adjustment though? Too much expense would be added to income, not subtracted.

Continuing to post unsubstantiated vitriol really doesn't help anyone though. -

They have been working on this for two years. I was at the CCH Small Firms Conference last October and had a chance to test drive the new program and check out the changes. But they did pick a bad year to roll it out; but how is a company supposed to predict just how much of an asshat Congress is going to be in any given year? Now some of the issues are program based. But the time they would have been working on these issues, you had all of the form revamps that had to be done at the same time. My cite for this? The two software programs that revamped their platforms are really screwed this year. You think RedGear skimped on programmers, etc too? Get real. -
It's listed as a positive sec. 481 (or negative) adjustment in the year corrected, and since the 3115 is attached, the IRS knows what it is. In an audit it's not the same, just a depreciation adjustment, since you are not petitioning for an accounting change.
-
MsTabbyKatz , answering a CP notice does not require an X. They will make the necessary adjustments to the proposed tax based on the info you send in. It's an audit. Do you respond to an audit notice with a 1040X? No, you send the docs supporting your position to the examiner. And yes, I did one with a missing 8889 a few months ago, and sent in the form.

Well you want a decent biz computer, don't you? I never buy 'em off the rack. Dell & HP both have them, I was looking in case I had to get a new computer for my assistant.
-
So get a decent computer with Win7.

ATX 2012 Needs to Be Fixed as It will affect us in 2013 as Well

I didn't upgrade to 12.9, but 12.10 has been working pretty good for me. -
Intuit has had huge problems. Maybe not with their program running slow or crashing, but what do you call all the issues they've had with what's being (or rather not being) transmitted in their efiles?
-
I seems that the tedious part is if you may qualify for a subsidy. I don't. I'll be happy to be able to get insurance; the only reason I have it now is because the wonderful state of CA mandates you be offered another 18 months of COBRA after federal COBRA runs out. Of course it's at a 10% over cost premium instead of 2%, but since I'm uninsurable otherwise, I'll settle for filling out a bunch of forms.
-
Taxwizard, you really don't know what you're talking about. A change in depreciation method is a change in accounting method. And the 3115 is the only way to correct it.
-
Even better, fax it.

Cathy has it right. No 1040x. Just respond to the notice, after calling to get a hold put on. If the first Cp2000 only expired a bit more than a month ago, a second CP2000 is generally then sent confirming the tax. The 90 day notice may not have been sent yet. If you get a hold put on the account, and have her change her address of record while you are on the phone with the service center, you can have that delayed as well to give you time to respond. Get the 8821 filed too.

I'm with Lion, I thought this would be a thread about me, yesterday. I had to take the night off, I was that fried. John & Taxed have given you some great suggestions. I agree with the creating the records in excel too. And for payroll, the state agencies and IRS will have copies of the filings. Another reason to backup everything online...I fear fire, and my scanner is my friend.

I was getting into severe stress mode. Not enough sleep, too many things that had to get done. After I got that damn extension accepted, I did (insert 'N' word here) and then said screw it and took the evening off. Need to recharge.

Never mind, found the answer. And had to create a duplicate return to file the extension as a C. I need a nap. And a night off.
