  1. Just got a reject on the extension for a new S-corp; does not match entity type on file with IRS. They have not yet filed the 2553; we are going to file with the return. So do I file the extension as a C-corp? Try again? too late to mail....
  2. Hey, new form, read the form. I have no sympathy.
  3. But it's not included in efiles. I talked to a friend of mine who switched to Drake and he called tech support who confirmed they do not efile the form. And he already efiled RDPs, and didn't notice, so it must not have thrown an error message.
  4. I don't want to get locked into Proseries. And Lacerte is screwing up their RDP returns; not transmitting the 8958. Not sure if proseries has the bug too. I'm not sure if Drake even has the 8958.
  5. I was my own guinea pig. So simple, never want to paper file again. Through ATX in 2003.
  6. But corned beef lasts a good long time in the fridge...not that mine lasts very long in the fridge!
  7. The print manager always selects the billing invoice in the "federal copies for state" right at the end. It's easy to miss and it would NEVER be needed. If you select and the change the printer, you have to be wary of stuff like this rechecking. That's why you're getting another billing invoice at the end of the print. I nearly always print preview first even though it slows down things a lot.
  8. Don't know, but EIC is definitely extra. The deal is for a 1040ez. No state, no extra anything. I wonder what they'd charge if they brought a 1099-INT with $15 of interest. "Sorry, but that'll be $50 more if I include that. We could just leave it off". One of my clients tried going to Block for the deal. Just got married, so they had two W2s. THat was ok, but when they asked if they'd be better off filing MFS, THAT was going to be extra to check. And then twice paying for the state. They came back to me and paid $60. And I checked on MFS. for free.
  9. I just heard from a lot of really pissed Lacerte users on my LGBT tax board that Lacerte hasn't been transmitting the 8958. Two preparers already have clients that have received letters. So far so good for me.
  10. No matter what kind of services, box 7 seems to be the box of choice for issuers of 1099s regardless of what it's actually for. You know how we struggle with the reporting when box 7 is checked and ain't no way it's for a business. Trustee or executor fees come to mind right now. So I have an attorney, and there's a special box for payments to attorneys. Box 14. So does the issuer fill out box 14? No. Box 7? No. Only one I've seen in years with box 3 filled out. So now will the IRS be looking for the income on line 21 instead of the Sch C? (this is a rhetorical question, no one need answer)
  11. Have you excluded the ATX .exe files from your antivirus? If your antivirus is preventing ATX from accessing what it needs to, you'll get these symptoms.
  12. Ah, if the house was bought jointly, you have to do two. One for each spouse at $250 each. That's so if they divorce, the payback can be traced to each SSN.

    MFS

Yes. But you could also do injured spouse.
  14. See how much he was charged!
  15. In CA, the state is $40. And any extra forms are extra. You qualify for the retirement credit? Regular price.
  16. Rotting onions, chopped and in a sealed bag that just might explode. I just close the kitchen door, and put off going to the compost pile one more day. If the bag explodes, then we'll have a big problem.
  17. It isn't fear, Drake had problems with my CA calcs, and I couldn't figure out how to do all the workarounds I need to do with my same sex couple returns. I also need a ton of states. Proseries is just too damn expensive on that front. I will admit, I'm one of the lucky people that hasn't had a lot of issues so far this year.
  18. Drake is not an answer for me. It is not suitable for my client base. ATX is the only software I've used in my practice. I've used others in jobs I've had alongside, but nothing that worked as well for me as ATX.
  19. I have yo file one of these. It requires its own extension form? More info please!
  20. Not that I know of. It's done on each state return filed.
  21. He withdrew before 5 years had passed since he converted. The withdrawal is taxable too. Look up the rules on conversions. Although I can't tell you if the calc is wrong (I think it should be $7000 taxable) because I'm fried.
  22. I started including them fairly early in my practice, ever since I got the client whose former preparer had died suddenly and he had a hell of a time even getting his paperwork back. I've had to recreate on depreciation schedule where the preparer refused to pony up; claimed he didn't have one. So either he made depreciation up, or was lying. And it was hell. Duplex, half first rented in '89, then the second half extensively remodeled and rented out in 2000. Other half remodeled after that. I got as many numbers from the client as I could, and winged it, disclosing in the return. Pulled as much as I could from the 4562s that I had. I don't want my clients to go through this if I get hit by a bus.
  23. I had my assistant key her first return today, besides her own. I'm going to find a few more easy ones she can start on while I have appointments tomorrow. And she brought me a rocking new client that I met with today. I am feeling better about things today for some reason! And it got up to 80 degrees too.
  24. It should tie to one of your activities. There's a drop down box right after 'date' in the FAM. Select the activity, and the assets will add to that one.
  25. Did you fill out the Roth basis worksheet?
