If you can pass the practice tests with margin, you can pass the SEE. Remember, the Gleim books use prior tests as their source material. Catherine

It must be your charming smile!

I used the Gleim books and CD and thought they were GREAT preparation. Work on them enough, and you'll start to find the mistakes in the prep materials (they use former exam questions, complete with the original mistakes). That's when you'll know you're getting the hang of it. I also really liked finding out that it was when I went back and re-visited a question that I got it wrong. That gave me the confidence to answer - move on; answer - move on, during the real test. I passed all four sections (four back then; three now) first try. And a number of those sections were on types of returns that I had never yet done in "real life" (corporates, fiduciaries, etc). Catherine

Finally called them. Same # as for the 4419 -- 877-477-0572 (though it doesn't -say- so anywhere in Pub 1220). In case anyone else needs it.

I have several 6847's to fax in, and for the life of me I can't find the number they get sent to. I've looked in my files, on my desk, online, at irs.gov -- no luck. It's really hiding from me. Anyone have it? Thanks, Catherine

NT I just had to share this one from the Darwin Awards letter.

GREAT story!! -
They take the cake. Several cakes, in fact. But no one would be eligible for EIC in that bunch. Thanks for pointing out a possible circumstance, though, as it's not one I would have thought up.

Possibly hard of reading?

And I am my own grandpaw.... I actually know a family (no one young enough to claim as dependents!) where wife is more than 40 years younger than husband and younger than all but -one- of husband's children. And that man's eldest daughter is married to a man almost 40 years younger than she is. Very weird family. NOT clients, thankfully.

We've had all kinds of firewall issues here lately. My firewall took a snit at something and decided to ban ALL outgoing and incoming messages from several programs, and would not let me manually release them. In the end, I had to uninstall and reinstall the firewall and that seems to have worked. My daughter's computer just did the same thing a couple days ago and the same solution -- uninstall/reinstall -- was needed. Two different firewall programs, to boot. Go figure.

Or use them instead of ice melt.....

Good for you!! I'm still in the throes of W-2's and 1099's and haven't tackled any 1040 returns yet.

I also have a couple of one-or-two employee clients where it's just faster/easier to directly input from QB reports, but the import is great for more than 2 or so employees.

Usually the "thinks he knows everything" engineer is a poor engineer as well as a PITA. A -good- engineer wants to know where every number comes from and why it's handled the way it's being handled, but never claims to know everything or even to know better than another professional. But there are way more of the former than the latter, and one of the reasons I'm glad to be -out- of engineering. One of the best engineers I ever worked with was very clear: "As long as proper care was taken in collecting data, then the data ARE. And if they do not agree with your theory, then it's time to re-examine your theory for the flaws that surely exist." But there are far too many numb-noggins out there who blithely and cheerfully convince themselves that their beloved theories must be so, therefore the data must be wrong. Phlogiston chemistry, anyone?

I've never bothered with 941's but the W-2/W-3 are easy -- it's all built into the ATX program. (Working from last year's memory - none from this year are ready to go yet.) ATX creates the file you need to upload to the SSA. Log in to SSA and pick the right file -- go back the next day to make sure they're accepted. Poof. Done except for the client copy and mailing individual W-2's (which I usually give to the client to mail to the employees).

Absolutely feel free to use the analogy, Elfling.

If he barges in on you at home without knocking again I would call the police. Maybe even call the non-emergency number this morning and ask their advice -- you want it on record with them. But definitely lock your door!! His original documents you can't keep. Anything you have done for him, for which he has not paid, isn't his yet. A loaf of bread in your shopping basket at the store isn't yours until after you pay for it. Trying to leave the store before then is stealing. This guy is trying to steal your work. Cash in hand first and then you hand over your work.
