  1. Clicking the F9 button deletes the form that you don't want.
  2. I, too, logged into the link Art gave and FINALLY I'm in! Unfortunately I was running out of time and I gave up on the software and bought forms, envelopes, etc. and printed them out from QuickBooks. Now I'll mail everything in instead of easily e-filing as I have for years. I have talked to TRX so many times about this problem; I don't know why they didn't give me this website. Thank you so much for posting the information here!
  3. I have TRX Pro Premium but I cannot figure out how to create 1099s for my client's subcontractors as we could in ATX. It was so easy to create and e-file from the software, and then just print out copies for the client, subcontractors, or employees. Has anyone been successful with this in TRX?
  4. I use Carbonite too and I like it's constant backup. I still use flash drives and an external hd backup but I like knowing that it will be diligent, even when I'm not. It's $54.95 per year, very inexpensive for the peace of mind. Here's a link that saves a little bit more: http://www.subscription.com/carbonite/
  5. I'm in Colorado, and this is the first I've heard of it. Thanks for the heads up!
  6. FYI...I called ATX on 5/28 to see about renewing (didn't know they would be closed Friday for the holiday). Received a voicemail yesterday from ATX saying Troy was no longer with them.
  7. I've received 10 or so acks in the last hour. Some dated several days ago. Hooray!
  8. Re: fatal error prevents further communication with the servers at this time" message It seems like the e-files are transmitting, and I then get the above message when the acks are requested. I'm hoping that means that the e-filed returns and extensions are sending. As Catherine mentioned, this has happened before and we were okay as long as the e-files were transmitted by the ERO timely. You early birds put me to shame. I still have way too many extensions and returns to get out today. I know better, but just don't seem to learn my lesson. I need to do an earlier cut-off date. Maybe this year's situation will cure me. Naaah, not likely. Old dog, new trick.
  9. There's no "Adjustment to Box 1" with the "J-Other" code on the 1099-Int? That puts the numbers correctly on the Sch B without overriding.
  10. Same here. 17 7004s e-filed on 3/14 and no acks for any of them. I have received acks for 1040s though.
  11. Sometimes dealers are forced to buy several vehicles in a group, and end up junking unsellable ones. Make sure they didn't sell any for scrap metal.
  12. Just in case you're looking for a deduction for rent, there is none for CO, unless of course OIH applies.
  13. You could e-file 1099s including 1096 and states if form 6847 is signed and faxed. You have until 3/31/10 to submit them if they're e-filed.
  14. I have never seen such a delay in getting Colorado e-files accepted. It takes 7-10 days past the federal return e-file acceptance. In past years, the CO e-file acceptance quickly followed the federal. Anyone else noticing a difference this year?

  16. It may not be worth the trouble for a couple of W2s or 1099s, but here is the link for converting data from QuickBooks and Peachtree. One nice thing is that you don't have to worry about errors in duplicating the data. http://www.atxinc.com/help/tax/return_preparation_tasks/w_2_and_1099_import/w_2_and_1099_import_overview.htm
  17. MAS, you are converting your QuickBooks data to text files in ATX, not manually entering the data in ATX, right?
  18. Thanks for confirming my thoughts, mcb39. I just wasn't absolutely certain if the date of purchase was when he entered into the land contract or when he closed on the property. Finally, I can stop arguing with myself (and the mortgage broker).
  19. Late in 2008, taxpayer entered into a land contract for a home, which he immediately rented out. We reported rental income and expenses on his 2008 tax return. Taxpayer closed on the property 12/2009 with a conventional mortgage. He has moved into it as his principal residence (homestead) and is going to rent out his previous residence where he lived for 20 years. His mortgage broker believes that this new purchase qualifies for the $6500 credit for existing homebuyers. I doubt it, but I continue to argue both sides of the argument to myself. I researched land contracts last year and again this year (I'm from CO where we don't see land contracts, client is in WI) and what I've learned is: "A land contract splits title into two parts-legal and equitable. Legal title remains with the seller until the land contract is paid off. Equitable title is what is given to the buyer at closing. Thus, the buyer with equitable title is deemed the owner of the real estate and must insure it, pay real estate taxes, and pay for it." Based on that, I figured he owned it when he entered into the land contract in 2008, which would preclude him from the $6500 credit. Can anyone out there with experience with land contracts help me determine once and for all whether or not he qualifies for the credit for existing homebuyers. Thanks!
  20. I have only received the Master Tax Guide.

    Gambling

I thought gambling losses were taken on schedule A for casual gambler or schedule C for professional gambler. It seems to me these taxpayers were double-dipping by taking the standard deduction and also deducting gambling losses up to the amount of winnings, no? In which case the conceded amount of $1100 would be generous. Guess I don't have much experience with this scenario. My clients are losers, not winners. (Take that any way you wish.)
  22. I purchased ATX through TRX and did not receive the email from CCH.
  23. SunTaxMan, the link TaxBilly provided to taxalmanac.org is misspelled. Try it without the extra "a" and it will take you to the correct, safe site.
  24. If you're looking for a brand new computer with XP Pro, you can get one at Toshiba.com or Dell.com. Just have to pay a little extra for the "downgrade" from Vista or 7.
  25. As Eeyore said, "Thanks for noticing me." What other group would have a backup birthday greeter?! Amazing! Yes, my birthday really is July 14th and I'm a "she" who is just a hair under 2009 years old. Guess I should update my profile one of these days. Thanks again! 10SorTAX
