  1. I have no idea, but they allowed it. It may have been because we both had the same last name? Thanks for all your info, it did help.
  2. @imjulier - I'm not paying them per say, but in years past it was just easier to throw my W2's at them and say "do my return." Then I'd forget to tell them my bank info, so I'd just say, put it into your account and then give me the money when it gets there. It was more of a laziness thing and just easier to get it done right then and there and not have to wait around until I had the time to get the info to them. @TAXBILLY - Thanks for the response, that answers my question, but now I have other questions regarding the deposit. How come you can only deposit into an account with your name on it? Plus, it gets me to thinking, for the past 2 years or so this is what I've done. Had the money deposited into a different account. One that did not have my name on it. Will I be expecting any trouble in the future, or should I just count my blessings and do it the correct way from now on?
  3. What if you had 1 program that allowed you to do returns for the previous 10 years? No switching from program to program, no rollover, no reentry of data. What if you could fill out one input screen, then all the information flows over to the appropriate year(s) you are doing? How much easier would that make your life and would you switch to that program knowing it has that capability?
  4. Had a quick question about this form. I remember reading somewhere on this forum that you could not deposit your tax refund into your tax preparers account. What if your preparer is a relative and are not really a tax preparer, just doing it for fun as a favor. Can you still have your refund deposited into their account?
  5. I'm not a tax professional, but that makes me wonder - What is Sch R used for?
  6. On average, how many clients in a years time come in and have not filed for the past several years and want you to do that for them? Once you have established that commitment to them, how do you go about doing all those returns? Do you just go back to previous years tax programs and do that, and keep rolling over to the next year, or do some tax programs have the feature to allow you to do past returns? I'm pretty sure that no software out there allows that feature - to create (let's say) amended returns for the previous 10 years by inputting tax payer info on one screen and then it flowing to each relating year. How many of you would like to see that feature implemented? Thanks in advance for reading this and I'm anxious to see your responses!
  7. I keep forgetting to add that we also use MS2007 at the office. I love it! The look and feel as mentioned is a lot different and the features they have added have done well to enhance the use. As with all upgrades, there is a learning curve, but once you get used to it, you'll love it as well.
  8. That may well be the case, I'm not sure, but I just know that a lot of programs let you do that as long as you don't pass the software around. Catherine is right though, policies often change and it's always best to do the research before hand. Although, in no way am I condoning the misuse of a license agreements, but who actually follows the agreements to a " T " and only installs on 1 computer? I know if I've spent all that money on one program, I'm going to want to use it on my work computer and / or at least my laptop.
  9. The way some licenses work are different. As a rule, I've understood one license to mean one user. That one user may have 1 home computer, 1 office computer and 1 laptop for traveling. Most programs will allow that to be done just as long as you keep it to yourself and don't pass it around to others. I'm sure Microsoft works the same, but like the others have said, you'll want to research that more in depth. IMO, you'd be fine.
  10. @cientax - I don't know if you looked online for Avanquest Tech Support, but they do have an online tech feature with email and also forums. If you have not looked, here is the web address : http://forums.avanquestusa.com
  11. We are very well associated with TaxCalcUSA and they offer paper products and write-up software. You should call Paul at TaxCalcUSA and tell him that Kyle from Virtual Managed Solutions referred you. Paul's telephone number is (603)893-8800. He is very friendly and if he cannot help you, could steer you in the right direction. Or, visit them online at http://www.TaxCalcUSA.com.
  12. It's sad to say, but an average life expectancy of a computer is only 3/4 years this day and age. With all the programs you can download from the web, virus' and spyware clogging systems up, new technology that comes out daily, it's hard to stay ahead of the game. Granted, there are times when it will last full beyond that, but the game you are in, you always need the best. Tax season is your life blood and you don't have the time to be down, waiting on updates, slow computers, hard drive crashes / failures. Sometimes the error message you received are just flukes, nothing is wrong. Sometimes computers have generic messages that they spit out like that when it's getting close to something bigger happening. Sometimes it really does mean the inevitable and a hard drive failure is near. It's hard to say. Action can be taken before hand to ensure recovery, but there's really nothing anyone can do to prevent it. @Janitor Bob - Check personal message for further correspondence.
  13. You can reach me at the phone number below - (877)867-8790 ext. 1041 - or, when the person answers you can ask for Kyle. As far as pricing goes, it depends on how many computers. If you need help on the one computer, it is only $199. That gives you unlimited support on anything computer related for a full year. Two computers would be $398, Three for $500, Four $650 and so on. I'm always in the office Mon thru Fri 8AM - 5PM EST. I always check email and ATX Community posts - so if you need help on those off hours, just message me and I can always come back. I live within walking distance of the office, so it's nothing for me to get here. As a side note: I may be going to New Mexico from Jan 21 to Jan 25. I will be unavailable during those dates.
  14. We have experienced many of our clients that use Vista 64bit and this is something that we could help out with. Our technicians are always willing and waiting to help you guys out. If anyone should come across any issues, just give me a call. We'll get everything squared away! Janitor Bob - I also answered the other post you left.
  15. I sure can Janitor Bob! Our technicians deal with many users that have Vista 64bit. If you should come across anything that seems funny, or you know something is just not right, give me a call. Keep in mind, we can also help you with setting up the new computer and getting everything up and going again. We would take care of all aspects.
  16. michaelmars - From working at ATX in the past, I'm almost positive that can be done. The only problem, that it's been so long I don't remember how to do it. That is something our technicians could help you with, or, you could get in touch with ATX Support. But yes, it can be done.
  17. It's great to hear that everything worked out for you. I'm glad that they got you up and going. Now it's time to get ready for the craziness that is tax season!!
  18. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYBODY! SEE YOU ALL NEXT WEEK! Actually, I don't know why I was thinking that. I'm always on here, even on the weekends and at night after work when I'm home not relaxing. I can't stay away from this place, it's so addicting!
  19. Here we go - Link below is to the topic I was referring - It pertains to the Client Letter, but I'm sure the Organizer has a similar function : http://www.atxcommunity.com/index.php?showtopic=3605
  20. 99mtamchamp - I cannot remember which topic this had been covered, but if you search the word "pronoun" in the search box, it'll come up with that topic in the results. Because all I can remember about the answer, was that someone said you needed to pull up the preferences and change the wording to use "pronoun." Hope this helps!
  21. Dan - Paul at http://www.TaxCalcUSA.com could answer that question and any more that you guys should have. He is very knowledgeable in that area and is very reliable.
  22. Another great place to get pre-printed forms is http://www.TaxCalcUSA.com - We have a great relationship with the person who owns this company. You'll speak with Paul and tell him that Kyle from Virtual Managed Solutions referred you. Right now they are running specials on certain products - Up to 40% Off - Take a look and see if he can help you out.
  23. Refer to the link below. It is a topic that has already been discussed earlier this week. It will answer your question. Thanks Taxizen! http://www.atxcommunity.com/index.php?showtopic=3618
  24. It's so awesome, that TaxSlayerPro seems to have taken the idea too. If any of you have ever ventured over to their message forum, they use the same forum software made by IP.Board. We've created a movement! Little do they know, it's not the software that makes it what it is, IT'S THE PEOPLE!
  25. I was working at ATX when the original site was taken down and I remember the outrage. The idea was brought up about creating a site such as this and luckily, one of my good friends Eric finally did take the lead and get it done. Since then, the rest is history. You guys have made it what it is!
