  1. What is most disturbing to me is that I would get 27 cents and four attorneys would make a million dollars. lol.

  2. Don't you kinda think it'll be one of those deals where four attorneys make a million dollars, and each claimant gets 27 cents?

  3. I (very rarely) prepare a tax return in front of the client. For me that opens too many avenues for possible error or missed entries. I want complete solitude when I am working on a return. As for interaction with my clients, I welcome their conversation and confidences. I want them to feel comfortable. Over the years, many have commented that "Nobody has asked me all these questions before!" So, when they come for the interview, they get my total attention. I want them to think of me as a friend; which is how I think of MOST of them.

  4. I do everything I can to keep my clients out of my office, especially when I'm working on their tax return. So for the most part that isn't a problem. However, I tolerate most any type of cell phone behavior while they're there. If someone's phone rings, I encourage them to answer the call because I always have something in front of me to do. However, if I have a question to ask I don't mind interrupting their texting or their conversation if I need some info. To me, what's fair regarding the interruption issue works both ways. I've never had someone refuse to respond, but if they did I'd show them the clock (not the door) just as a reminder that they're buying some expensive time while they're discussing their child's last piano recital with grandma. I've mentioned this before and will repeat it here - the way people communicate and interact is changing drastically. We can either adapt or go the way of the buggy whip.

  5. Just came to the realization that ATX 2012 problems could affect us again in 2013. If ATX fixes the crashing and speed issues in 2013, but does not fix these same issues for 2012, those of us (myself for one) that keep the prior years return open for reference will have to deal with the CRASHING & SLOW SPEED ISSUES AGAIN, on both the server and workstations. For me this includes load times on the server of 3-6 minutes and on the workstations of as much as 10 to 15 minutes! And crashes, who knows how often. Personally I have transferred the remaining of my clients to Drake, as this years software is so bad on my network that it is virtually unusable. I do, however, have a few completed returns in ATX 2012 that I will need to deal with later. I for one intend to transfer those completed returns to Drake after the season is over. I suggest that anyone that switched software mid-season should do the same after our busy season is over.

  7. That may be true, but a message needs to be sent. Especially since management hasn't stepped up and taken ownership, nor communicated clearly. I find that the most disturbing aspect of this.

  8. Amish Mafia, I learned so much about the amish community watching that show, it was very educational. Yeah right, too bad the amish people can't watch that show and sue the idiots on the show and who ever produced it.

  9. Birddog, I am on the fence about joining a class action lawsuit. Part of me wants to return to the gool old days when ATX was a good product. If we do a class action lawsuit, they are ruined and I will have no choice but to find another tax preparation software package. I feel like Charlie Brown and they are Lucy. With every update, I trust that this time, I will be able to "kick the ball" and they won't yank it away. I seem to fall for it every time! At this point, we are still having techical issues with ATX. We don't even bother to call them for help. We just keep working around the problems and then check and double check that the return is correct and safe to efile. I have asked my ATX sales rep (Gil Watts) for a refund and he never responded to my email. It's like they have given up, and are now hunkering down for the after season tsunami of lawsuits.

  10. I don't prepare returns in front of client, but I do get bother when I am interviewing or explaining them their tax return and they have to pick up a call . I feel like putting up a sign saying cell phone must be off, I have seen some restaurants refusing to take your order if you are on your cell phone.

  11. My office is cell phone unfriendly. Aluminum siding and a metal roof. No problems with I-phones or any other phones. I have wi-fi that is password protected if someone has a real need. I always have the client's attention.

  12. I seem to attract women who want to share their personal lives with me and sometimes want a shoulder to cry on. My fiance says it is because I am a good listener...but I don't want to be a good listener...I usually just want them to go away because they make me uncomfortable.....but I listen and I smile and I offer my shoulder...because that's what tax preparers do.....right?
