  1. I will also have more than a few drinks . . .

  2. I will go into the office Apr 15 about mid-morning and spend a few hours reviewing all my extension filings. Then home around 5pm to take my wife to dinner. This became an annual Apr 15 ritual for us many years ago, once I learned how to manage extensions the right way. Sure beats working until all hours of the night and risking mistakes. After dinner we will pack and leave for the beach the morning of Apr 16 to spend the rest of the week relaxing.

  3. He listed me and 3 other preparers he interviewed in his farewell letter to his clients. I offered to purchase his practice, but he said he just wanted to refer his people to qualified tax accountants. I will send him a percentage of the new business I have developed as a thank you gift when season is over. He had been a preparer for 48 years and decided he was done.

  4. Catherine, As an aside, we are still on track for son #2 to attend MIT. He is still a junior in high school, but he has risen to the number one ranking in his class. Potential valedictorian. Also won an award for best physics student at his high school. The physics teacher is offering to teach my son physics C next year, even though the school does not offer the class. It will allow him to take the AP Physics exam which the MIT website says they will accept for credit if successfully completed. MIT is all he dreams about. Next year is going to be a nightmare. He is taking 6 AP classes (if you count the physics C special class). I hope someday we can meet you and your husband in Boston when I drop the kid off at the school. Tom Hollister, CA

  6. Just day dreaming for a minute. Thinking of April 16th. After sleeping in, I'm going to spend the day in the fresh air. Soak up some sun and spend a quiet day by myself. No phone calls. Anyone have a better idea?

  7. She: I don't think they charged sales tax on the interest. You: Ok, your right. Just forget I brought it up.

  8. When researching CA agricultural universities back when I went to school, it came down to 4 realy good Ag Schools: 1. If you want to learn how to breed a cow to give more milk - Go to Cal Poly SLO 2. If you want to genetically engineer a cow to give more milk - Go to UC Davis 3. If you want to sell the milk - Go to Fresno State 4. If you want to find out how to tip cows while partying - go to Chico State Anyone from Chico who takes offense, I am sorry. That is just what I was told. Tom aka Bulldogtom Hollister, CA

  9. Just for fun I once created a new throw-away yahoo email account and responded to one of these. In my response I made up a lot of stuff that wasn't even in the original email. I had some fun with it for about a month stringing the guy along. I kept changing the story he was telling me. For example, he told me he was in London. In my reply I said that I was jealous that he got to live in Rome. He agreed that Rome was a wonderful place to live. It was hilarious--he agreed with everything I said. He couldn't even keep his own story straight. He kept begging me to 'do the right thing' and wire the money he needed so he could proceed with processing my inheritance. He finally became angry with me and accused me of trying to scam him! Told me I was keeping him from being able to feed his family. Needless to say, my sympathy lasted less than a nanosecond.

  10. The more I deal with people, the less things surprise me. I just had the following text message exchange with a person with a master's degree: Me: You can deduct the sales tax you paid on vehicle(s) purchased in 2012. She: Yea Me: You will have to tell me the amount of sales tax you paid. (Thinking: Since my crystal ball is in the shop.) She: k.......I guess per payment? I'll look online Me: It should be on the settlement statement or you could call the dealership. She: k Then she continued teaching children how to succeed in life.

  11. Is anyone else besides me sick and tired of clicking on that little green arrow only to find that it doesn't really take you to another field or form? Everywhere you go in the Sch. E, Passive activity loss pages and At risk pages, you click on the green arrow and go nowhere. Was working on a return with several out of state rental properties for a CA resident. I thought I had it all tied out. When I e-filed, CA rejected. Took me forever to find the entry that I missed. But I kept clicking on the green arrows to get me to the associated forms and input sheets and they never took me there. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR at ATX. BTW, it was a pretty simple adjustment that did not affect the return, just the CA adjustment that I thought I entered but missed on the CA 3801. Rant over. Tom Hollister, CA

  12. The Schedule B rollover makes sense since many of those repeat every year. Most people have their money in the bank for more than a year, hold securities for more than a year, etc. Makes for a good checklist. This is not the case for sale of securities.

  13. Yup. But don't be surprised if she comes back a flaming liberal. Davis is known for that. But an absolutely lovely town, more bikes than cars.

  14. That's great news Tom. We will all be rooting for him. And for you to survive his last year of HS. My granddaughter who has always wanted to be a vet just got her letter notifying her she's been accepted at UC-Davis, which has one of the best vet schools in the country. I'm excited about that.

  15. Last year the 8949 was located at the bottom of the sch D... was not a separate form in ATX... now they made it a "separate" form on the menu listing... So we are all having to add it back in. I thought it was more convenient at the bottom of the Sch D. It's like an extention of the sch d anyway. Should have left it the same as 2011, like a lot of other stuff.

  17. I will be working. Once I leave those extensions hanging; I hate getting back to them. Also it is time for first quarter payroll and quarterly and/or monthly sales tax returns in Wi.

  18. Sleep late - most likely until about 6:30 in the morning. And then I am going looking at bicycles. And then take a nap. And follow that up with another nap. These 16 hour seven days a week (112 hours per week) are getting old fast. We will be done with prep work on the 12th and work on extensions until noon on the 15th. After the 16th, we will be back crunching out quarterly payroll reports. We do not get back on tax returns until late May.

  21. Well Schedule B rolls over if I had it last year in the return and it also has "Absolutely nothing on it applies to the next year.." I was just noting with all the slowness of ATX it would be nice if D rolled over so would 8949.
