  1. There's a well-known saying here in Arkansas that applies to surveys of any kind: "Thank God for Mississippi!"

  2. Back to trying to deal with divorced parents, getting personal financial information from their tax returns. I have grandparents who manage their grandchildren's investments; I don't even know the parents. It's so awkward asking questions about the parents' tax returns.

  3. This is the "thing". Those we elect have now cut withholding to the smallest amount they can stomach (meaning what their pollsters/advisors say they can get away with) in a relatively (sadly) successful attempt to fool voters into believing they are the "one" who increased their income. It is, and has been for several administrations, a game of chicken, rather than any attempt at being accurate. The administration lost for TY 2018, proved by having to widen the under withholding limit to keep "regular" folks from the penalty. It is well past the point where the withholding process is accurate enough for even some. All should decide on a reasonable liability for the year, then d whatever it takes to get to that point, even if it means making deposits personally. Some employees even play the game right back at the PTB, with little or no WH until Q4, and during Q4, having enough WH or deposits to stay out of penalty...

  4. These numbers are misleading. They are surely based on full time employees at large accounting firms and not on seasonal income that most tax preparers have. If you extrapolate seasonal income to a full year, then I think you will get something reasonably close to the survey.

  5. I'll venture a guess that it must be some setting or limitation outside of this site, in your OS, AV, or browser, because there are no options within this site that would limit the display as you've described.

  6. Strange it is. And, I used to see what Judy posted, for years. And, I've been using Chrome for years. One day it changed. I appreciated the extra space the posts now have, but do miss the State of the poster. If the state matters, I just check the profile. We'll see what my new IT guy can do with my new computer, OS, etc.

  8. This is a site that was created by a private individual to whom we are forever grateful. It is not associated with or limited by Wolters Kluwer or CCH in any way. As a private site, its maintenance and its continuation depends on members willing to donate toward its costs. A "Donate" tab is located toward the top of the page with enhancements that include the ability to make either a single or recurring donations, and to view and manage those recurring donations and credit card information in a PCI-compliant environment. Methods of payment included in the checkout process are by credit card or by mailing a check. Some further points about this process: Every donation is associated with the person that made it. No matter what method of payment is used, as long as the checkout process is completed, the site will create a record of that donation and associate it with your account. Recurring donations can be cancelled at any time from the Donate > Manage Donations page. Card info can be updated/removed from the Donate > My Details > Cards page. Fine print: This is all PCI compliant. No credit card information is stored on the admin/owner's server. All transactions are processed by the Stripe payment gateway, and transmitted over an encrypted connection. Admin/owner has implemented similar systems for hospitals around his home state of Maine--all up to industry standards.

  10. I hadn't considered that, thank you for pointing it out. I'll give this some thought... I'm not going to make any changes hastily, and will probably look to you folks for feedback before doing anything.

  11. Personally, I don't like the donor label at all. I wish it would go away. Not my site, so not my call, but I would not want anyone to feel uncomfortable that they are not a donor. I usually give one time per year, and when that label came about, it was a few months before I hit the button. I felt kinda weird as one of the regulars on the board without a donor designation. I believe Eric knows how I feel about him and his work, and I would be willing to give more if he ever asked. He hasn't, I give something every year, I have no idea how that stacks up to the giving of others and I don't care. Eric has my contact info and could PM me if he thought I was slacking on what I give, and I would not be offended if he did. He has never said what it takes to run the site nor made a suggestion on what each of us should give to keep it going. That is his choice and I respect it. Just my 2 cents. Tom Modesto, CA

  14. Gee! Another retirement savings plan. Love the way congress comes up with acronyms to form a word. SECURE, SIMPLE, JOBS, FAIR, ETC For more - https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/08/03/364-bills-that-have-been-introduced-in-congress-ranked-by-acronym-quality/ Notice how some of the old tax provisions, excluded from TCJA, are slowly creeping back in, with the 4 extenders.
