  1. No other company in the UNIVERSE would have that kind of backlog. Why does the government accept this kind of inept operation to continue? It blows my mind. I work for myself and would fire me if I was that bad.

  2. I recently uninstalled CCleaner because it was deleting my Firefox add-ons settings and driving me nuts. Windows has built in disk cleanup but it takes a long time to run. If you're really short on space, you can tell windows disk clean up to delete system files as well. It's a shame because CCleaner is very useful. I recently came across a computer with a hard drive nearly 90% full. I ran CCleaner and it got rid of years of windows update files and the disk ended up only about 20% full. You could put a shortcut to your temp folder on your desktop and open it up and delete all the files once a day. %temp% is all you need to have for the shortcut location. Some files might not be able to be deleted due to programs running, and that's ok. Also, set your browsers to delete cache when closed. It's personal preference to delete browsing history and other things, but you'll want to keep your cookies to save time logging into some sites.

  3. The IRS has been understaffed and underfunded since 2011. This situation is like slow moving avalanche moving downhill. It will not be fixed anytime soon.

  4. I did a quick amortization calculation 2% vs 2.5% on a 30yr loan, for simplicity I used $100K as the principal amount: $33,063 of interest at 2%, $42,243 at 2.5%. If I were to add $3K to the 100K to finance the closing cost, financing $103K you would pay $993 more in interest totaling $34,056.

  5. I use RingCentral. I usually get an email and a text within minutes when I send a fax, and an email quickly when I receive a fax. I don't remember what the service costs offhand, but I have been pleased with it. We just scan anything we don't already have on the computer to be able to fax it. I switched when the last fax machine I had broke, and I have been very pleased.

  6. For $ 10/month (less if paid on an annual basis), MyFax provides such a confirmation email as well as such reliable service that I jettisoned my standalone fax and dedicated line 11 -- yes, eleven -- years ago. MyFax assigned me a toll-free number, which helps persuade chintzy clients and their employers to fax me when necessary. I'm authorized to send faxes from more than one email address -- I scan everything into PDFs in my office and simply attach those to a standard email address that begins with the recipient's fax number. Not only that, but whenever I've had a problem such as an unreceived fax I've been able to reach live, human tech help no matter the time -- and a couple of times they conducted technical tests on my line and the recipient's. I've never exhausted the limits on outbound and inbound faxes, which I just now looked up and found to be 200 pages in and 100 pages out per month. There is an online resource such as LionEA described for eFax, which I've used to find faxes from YEARS ago -- apparently no limit on storage.

  7. Me, too. When I changed techies and had my new guy advising on and setting up my new computer a year ago, he got rid of some things (BitDefender is one I remember) but kept CCleaner. This techie was recommended by another tax preparer; he works for tax preparers, accountants, and lawyers primarily, so I've trusted his suggestions re security.

  9. We started the refinance process back in early September. I think we finally have all the documentation submitted that the mortgage company wants. Now it's just waiting for them to grind thru everything.

  11. Has anyone dealt with Blue Brick Financial or had dealings with their mortgages? I am asking, because it seems too good to be true. Does anyone refinance a mortgage with no fees? My son just bought a home in September and is looking at refinancing. I am seeing good and some really bad reviews. I just don't want him to make a huge mistake when he has a huge mortgage and is so young. Thanks to anyone that may know something.

  12. This came up in a seminar a couple weeks ago, and no one could wrap their arms around it. The presenter spoke confidently but was not successful imparting anything clear. Even my multiple choices above are all over the map.

  14. Notary, Signature Guarantee, Medallion. As far as I'm concerned, they're all variations on a theme and I couldn't for the life of me tell you the differences and legal requirements without looking them each up at that moment. The only thing I know is that they have different requirements, serve similar but non-identical purposes, and you get them in different places for different fees. I do wish they'd consolidate to something that everyone would accept.

  15. I use voipo.com for "virtual" numbers for fax, text, and voicemail. The fax process works well, as do all of their functions.
