  1. Thanks for the tip, Lee. Actually, I think many here do. In a nod to marital bliss, I liked "How'd ya like a trip to the moon, Alice?" And another gem was sewer worker Art Carney's hope that his son would someday "wade in my footsteps". Come to think of it, our first house furniture and appliances somewhat resembled Ralph Kramden's apartment. But, that aside, ... mmm ... wish somebody could bring back the old days.

  2. I know that I am so fortunate. I just threw it out there on Facebook asking if there was anyone out there who wanted to help out part-time preparing tax returns and she showed up. She will do anything; sweep, shred, clean and prepare tax returns almost flawlessly. It is a perfect fit. If she needs help she asks for it and if she is weak in some area, I am free to tell her about it. I allow her flexibility as to hours and a chance to learn this crazy business the proper way. I have been doing this as a business since 1992. I can't pay her a lot, but we feed her and I am giving her the benefit of my experience and she is a fast learner. Perfect setup so far. Just started second year today.

  3. Gee, you've certainly been a member of this group for long enough that you should know that we are a generous group and it's rare that any post goes unanswered here, and it's also a slow time when many of our regulars aren't back yet. Perhaps the lack of instantaneous help was also because it took some time for members to find time in their own busy schedules to visit the site and respond. Please remember that this is not the official ATX forum.

  4. Try 1-800-638-8291. That's ATX and they're there. Hold time was ten minutes for my recent renewal. The down side of that is it's ATX which makes some lips here curl. But, I like it, have used it 15 years, it's forms-based, and I'd rather be tarred & feathered than switch software (caveat: support's just...ah, well, I don't wanna talk about it). The hesitation to answer is not that we're unfriendly (I, for instance, am only slightly irked since Time magazine passed me over -again- for Man of the Year). But, this is a board for professional tax preparers and your post has the tone and timing (3 posts total-January) of a do-it-yourself newbie. Of course DIY's fine if you wanna do it, but (how to put it?) there's nothing in it for us. Good luck. BB

  5. Based on recommendations last year about Verifyle, I began using it. I pay $9 monthly for Pro. It is pretty user friendly and this year even more so as now joint return signers can sign one document rather than 2 separate forms. Seems to work for me and my clients.

  6. As a perk of being a member of NAEA, and NCPE Fellowship, I have access to Verifyle Pro, an encrypted secure document sharing platform. AFAIK it is very user friendly. PS - Other organizations may also offer it as a perk of membership.

  7. "one of these days...", and I am not even old enough to have seen this in second run showings. Perfect laugh for me today, on a typical Jan day for me when customers ask for help, then, despite getting accurate replies from the person who wrote the software, say I have no idea what I am talking about. I know I am human, and vastly imperfect, but among customers, it is a rare bird who will even want to hear the issue could be the fingers on their keyboard, let alone even the hint of something other than a software error causing their issue. For one of the above posts, if at all possible, dependents who are borderline independent, should have been swapped to independent for the stimulus - assuming mock calculations showed a profit over being dependent. In the cases I deal with, they are disabled adult dependents, for which some moving income and expense timings can make the stimulus profitable.

  8. Ethics and common sense. Rare indeed. The last job I applied for, there was a test with a series of questions. On one, I answered something like (unsure, but with a new moments of searching a specific resource, I will have the answer". That was the thing which got me the job, admitting to the unknown, and having the knowledge to know what I did not, and how to get the information. -- I typically use the term (formerly) common sense, since sense is no longer common.

  9. Well Wisconsin is kinda cold especially in winter (-30). Maybe she might like to move to a warmer location.
