    1099 Misc

You can't go by whether the entity has a Fed Id # vs SSN, Even an individual operating as sole prop should have a FEIN if they have employees, using the FEIN to file payroll returns & W-2s. The Schedule C has a place for the FEIN. Go back & find out if the sub is an unincorporated entity.
  2. If you're filing a paper return, I'd attach the worksheet for line 44. When e-filing the worksheets don't go to IRS unless IRS requires them. I did a test return up thru creating an efile. The last item listed on the e-filed forms list is something called Federal Summary Record. I don't know what's contained in that report, maybe the data might be included there.

    Form 5329

I just did a test return with a 1040, 1099-R input & 5329 forms all open initially. I input data in 1099-R tab. Program didn't put in the "NO" at first. THEN, I deleted the form 5329 from the return. VOILA, the "NO" appears to the left of line 60. Hope this helps.
  4. Wow Mel. Sorry to hear of your past troubles. Also, I hope that someone here didn't write that they were tired of your postings. I hope you will stay. I welcome your posts from a different perspective than that of a program user. Keep us updated on the new program. It's all news to me. I thought references to a new program were only rumors or wishfull thinking.
  5. What is the file extension of the file sent to you by your client? Did they send you a backup file? I have QB Pro 2007 on my laptop & that version of QB had to convert all data files from earlier versions of the program. Once converted, those files wre no longer compatible with earlier versions of QB. Not sure about the 2008 version. I'd think that if you can get to open those files the prgm would give you a message about compatibility. I remember some client having a newer version & the prgm just said I'd lose some functionality, but the numbers were unaffected.
  6. So someone could then say "gimme smore frikkin banana"
  7. One graham cracker, break in 1/2 to make 2 pieces Smear one piece of cracker with Marshmallow Fluff stuff Add a piece of Hershey bar Microwave for about 12-13 secs Top with second piece of the cracker YUM! :)
  8. This is from MyATX E-File Center and entitled "Business E-file" updated 02-01-08 at 4pm-- IRS is updating a schema for 1120 1120S and 1065 efile on Monday. We will release the 1065 EF Monday after these changes have taken effect. We will release a new 1120 and 1120S EF Info early Monday morning to update those programs. Once this is released, we'll set this new version as the minimum required for this form, otherwise the returns created with an earlier version would reject. To efile the federal partnership return, you need to add 8879-PE for the authorizing signature and 1065 EF info forms
  9. OK, so I just checked the efile center. New "Business E-file" message is as follows: updated 02-01-08 at 4pm - IRS is updating a schema for 1120 1120S and 1065 efile on Monday. We will release the 1065EF Monday after these changes have taken effect. We will release a new 1120 and 1120EF Info early Monday morning to update those programs. Once this is released, we'll set this new version as the minimum required for this form, otherwise the returns created with an earlier veriosn would reject. So, it seems like they've held my return for 3 days, which BTW has been validated but never transmitted. Now my question is, will the ATX system now produce a rejection, or will it eventually be transmitted and rejected by IRS. Either way, it's unacceptable to have a return just sitting there for 3 days now.
  10. I e-flied an 1120S in the late afternoon of 1/30. ATX validated immediately. It's supposed to go to Ogden. Drain schedule says they send when 10 returns are received or 4 pm, if earlier. I missed that 4pm deadline on the 30th. But it's still sitting in this same status & hasn't been sent to IRS as of now. Am I to believe that ATX hasn't received 10 returns of this type nationwide? Has anyone successfully had an 1120 or 1120S sent to IRS and accepted?
  11. In ATX within the E-file manager, the listing of the e-filed returns shows the processing center of submission. This listing is too wide to entirely appear on the screen, so you have to "scroll" to the right to see it. The ack history for each return also shows the processing center.
  12. You should check your instruction manual. If you no longer have it, contact the maker for them. My opener & remote have a randomly changing code that requires a specific sequence of steps to reset for a new sequence. This is also the procedure when either of the 2 remotes or keypad requires a battery change. I can relate to that "messing with your mind" worrying. I've left the house & later wondered things like: did I unplug the iron, shut the garage door, did I leave a dog out in the yard?"
  13. I used e-file last year for 1040s & a few businesses, but this is 1st year for me to e-file 1099's. My questions are: 1. Do I need to file Form 4419 - Applic for Filing Information Returns Electronically/Magnetically with the IRS before e-filing? This looks like a form used by a "Transmitter." Am I considered a "transmitter" for these, or is ATX/CCH the transmitter like they are for the 1040s, and I'm just the ERO? 2. Is there an authorization form that the client signs for filing these information returns (similar to the 8879 for 1040s)? 3. Do any of you get a signed form from your client saying that the #s are accurate before transmitting? 4. In preparing 1099-MISC, the Payer Info tab has a question at the bottom concerning the Combined Fed/State Filing Program. Do I need to file Form 6847? Delaware is my state. When paper filing I've never had the client send in forms to Delaware, just to the Federal. Delaware's individual return starts with Fed AGI & picks up all Fed income then makes modifications from there. What do the rest of you do in this regard? Thanks for any help. Everyone here says this is simple...why am I confused over these simple questions? Judy

    No IRS Postmark

Thanks for the info that it's never really worked properly. Last year seemed to work perfectly in this area for me with no problems. I've never used the "display ack history" as you suggested. I checked using that function and the IRS postmark is not shown there either. All I can say is I'm glad that I don't leave things until the last minute!

    No IRS Postmark

I filed my first e-file over the weekend. The federal is already "Accepted" & state is "IRS cleared" status (waiting for ACK from state). In my e-file manager, there is no entry in the IRS postmark column. Shouldn't this appear after ATX validates & when they transmit it to IRS? Has anyone received a postmark?
  16. Thanks for the answers. I only have a few & didn't want to deal with the "red" forms. Seems too easy after reading all the other problems with e-filing.

    EFIN incorrect

My test transmission was successful. Does this mean that my EFIN was migrated over, or just that my system meets the ATX minimum requirements for transmitting efiles? I don't offer any bank products. What # do I call at ATX to verify that I'm set up, or what's the fax # to send ATX my IRS letter?
  18. This might be a really stupid question but here goes. How do I sign up to efile these forms? I tried to update my efile applic to be able to file these, and information returns aren't on the list. Looks like I'm approved for 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041 only. 2nd dumb question: when efiling these, what is the procedure & is this through ATX? 3rd dumb question: is there a required transmittal form like for 1040s (the 8465 or 8879) ? Thanks to everyone, Judy
  19. I love it! Now, just as long as I don't look around my office too closely I'll be fine.
  20. Client that's 83 y.o. & single died 12/23/07. Her estimates were set up for $800/qtr and would have probably had her overpaid by ~ $150. The executor son called & wanted to know what he should do regarding the taxes. Estimates were based on her using std ded for '07. Income was just high enough & med exps low enough that std was better than itemized. Only other Sch A would have been a couple hundred in r.e. taxes because she sold her house and almost all was reimbursed at settlement. But then... In Sept '07 she moved to assisted living and shortly thereafter fell out of a wheelchair in the facility's transport van. The fracture was apparently severe & required hip transplant & rehab at full-care nursing home. (She & wheelchair were not properly secured during transport - lawsuit in the works). While that was happening, she developed some sort of infection that turned life-threatening, was moved back to hospital where she did not recover. Long story short: I don't know the extent of medical expenses that were actually paid during 2007, and even what portion of the assisted living may be deductible. I believe that 4 mos "rent" was paid, probably at a few thou per mo. The full care nursing/rehab should mostly have been covered by Medicare (or ultimately the lawsuit). Anyway, even if she did owe something, I doubt that it has yet to be billed. Since the 4th estimate based on breakeven and using the std ded would only be $650, should I tell him to pay this possibly creating an overpay't, or skip it and pay this or poss. smaller balance with the return?
  21. I just got my second chance too. Margaret, I think you are right. Now, where's that new toaster?
  22. KC, May you find strength through the Lord to guide you in this difficult time. You will both be in my prayers as well. Judy
  23. Well, I was just disgusted. And yes, it said something about the $1000 prize, but I was not interested in logging into Synovate's site to give them add'l info to win their prize. I believe it's John H that's been saying it's coming down to the toaster & microwave giveaway.
  24. Finally had a few mins to take the survey. I only got through part of it. The survey said I didn't qualify & they were only interested in "households" meeting certain criteria! I answered that my business was mostly tax prep, in business 12 yrs, 1 employee, 1 location. That's as far as I got. This just is one more indication that ATX does not care about our opinions.
