  1. Terry D... poster say that now she goes to full time to a U. I believe she qualifies for AOC.
  2. Bart, you are correct... Let's say that that the child provided 49% of her own support, her boy friend provided 3 percent of her support, the parents provided 48% of her support, then the parents can claim her.
  3. No.
  4. HH is correct if she didn't live with her husband AND upkept a home which was the main home..... bla bla bla for her child. If they were separated for 11 months, why do you want to give the other half of her "hard paid" expenses to her husband?
  5. SS numbers are issued within a month. You still have time or file an extension.
  6. Just file form 982. I don't see any difference between that debt or a credit card debt. If tax payers were and are insolvent at the time of filing, you can use insolvency.
  7. I deal with three states. ONLY DC will give you child care credit. I do not intent to overkill the horse if I see the tax liability is 0 after the exemptions on the other two states, I don't enter that info. I don't even bother to get that info from the client. I keep it in records as proof that the children were present in the US but that's it. The wording in ATX might be poor, but if the program would transmit that form, the IRS could clearly read: You are a schedule C filer, I barely believe you can survive with the money you are reporting and on top of that you paid child care.
  8. I just read that the IRS will start testing on Sunday and then they will be available "early in the week".
  9. It seems that a form is not ready to file forms with losses on Sch E. Is that correct?
  10. Identity theft has nothing to do with how large your refund is. Remember that either they steal your dependents ss# or yours. Most of the time they file faster than you with fake W-2s to get a big refund.
  11. How about the class action against the IRS from RTRPs, prometrics (who opened new tests centers), and other schools that were certified by the IRS to provide CPE credits? After the Love case, I believe many lawyers are salibating.
  12. Your son will get a letter each year to file his taxes. The return will be process normally but if your son doesn't have that letter with the number, his refund will be processed in August or after.
  13. "The era of ATX is over. The only folks who do not know this are simply the next victims." I think this is what happened: The program came with some flaws as it does every year. To make things worse, Congress forced the IRS to start late. All of us had to deal with that. Then, everybody start calling ATX and calling... the ATX resources scarced and everybody panicked and the programmers were under a lot of pressure to fix it and fix it now. They fixed the issue but there was a side effect. This was and endless loop for them. Some people left and that helped to deal with the overload. If we had a "normal" tax season (which we haven't seen it for a while), I could have had prepared about 10 returns on the first week of January and report my ATX issues calmly. Then I would have had prepared 20 returns on the second week of January and report my ATX issues calmy. On the third week of January, I would have had prepared 40 returns and still report my issues calmly. On the fourth week of January, I would have prepared 60 returns and report my linguering issues calmly. But thank to "whoever", the first week of February, I had to deal with about 200 returns and I was not able to report my issues calmy and the programmers had to help me within a week instead of a month. I think ATX will fix so many issues this year, that future releases will be robust for the box. People that left, will come back again in 2 years because ATX is not that expensive, is designed for preparers, and (thank to Eric and others that donate money and time) we have this forum.
  14. Programmers are not tax preparers and therefore they cannot fully test their program. Not everybody is having issues with the software. I am sorry to say, but so far, I have had less issues than in previous years. All my issues have been minor and if I was hired to be a tester, I think I would have OKed the software based on my experience.
  15. If client has the last pay check stub, can I efile using form 4852 if I have EIN for the missing W-2 or I have to paper file?
  16. I have worked in VA and DC for several years. Let's say that I move to MD and I find a job there. A month later, I get laid off. Where do I collect unemployment from? Is there a way to see how much I have in DC or VA before applying for benefits?
  17. I am glad to hear that!!!
  18. I don't think the software company has anything to do with the EIC delays. Once the return is accepted by the IRS, the software company has nothing to do with it.
  19. HR Block is the best. Attend wherever you can now, AND in August, take their basic course. Don't let the word "basic" mis-lead you, you will learn a lot from it. Another thing that you have to keep in mind is that you will always be learning new things in this profession.
  20. My return was rejected again and still I cannot see the rejection code from the "state", which is DC. IRS accepted the form, so I will paper file the state return.
  21. Since there are many issues with the program, I think I came accross the issue described by the original filer. A return was rejected and I couldn't open it if I hightlight it and then select "show rejection codes". I was able to open the file but as soon as I wanted to see the rejection codes, my program would crash. I had another file rejected and didn't experience that problem. So, I opened it and recreated the state efile and send ti back. Hopefully it will go trough or it will be rejected and I will be able to see the rejection code. I will let you know tomorrow.
  22. Marco, Think this way.... very few people will have a doctor mess with their eyes for cosmetic reasons. Do you agree?
  23. What would you do with a normal refund? If you died within the tax year, you are considered to have lived the whole year and should claim all credits and deductions.
  24. Did it work for you? "similar story" to whose?
  25. That happens when you rename the file on file manager. Let's say that you have a single male on records. You roll over his return and now he is filing jointly. You do all the work and send the efile. While transferring or getting ready to transfer you realized that return manager lists only his name. You send the efile and then you go to file manager to add the wife name to the file... big mistake. You will have to recreate that file from scratch. Work around, don't make any corrections.,, NOT EVEN AFTER it has been accepted because next year you might not be able to roll it over or you will not be able to see that file again should the client request an extra copy of the return. Another work around is to go to 2011 and make the correction there. Open the file and resave it, then roll it over.
