That's correct. Don't trash your "old" XP computer. KEEP IT. This is what I did when I purchased my computer. I bought in Dec 2011 or so. So, I was ready to install 2011 ATX but I first installed 2009 software, move my clients, open a couple, printed, Created a test client, saved it and reopened it. (Well, I tested it).Once I knew it worked, I installed ATX 2010 and tested it. Then I was ready to install 2011. I did and once everything was working, I went to my old computer, made updates for all programs, pulled it out from the LAN and kept it. My XP box has ATX from 2000 to 2009. Since 99% of my work is done using the last 3 years of ATX, I barely fire it up. Remember, XP was a very good program but it is a bit old now. Young operating systems don't like to deal with old programs but that's doesn't mean we are going to dump our senior programs. We have to create nursing homes and keep our elderly programs. Isn't that's the case in human life? At least we still have a leg to stand on which is called experience.

Call tech support maybe you are not correctly registered.

32bit XP cannot use 4G RAM. It only uses about 3.6. Since these days, you can only by RAM chips in 1G, you have to buy 4G in order to maximize XP.

That's a simple disclaimer from ATX. Just like the one I see when I open a monitor that is wrapped in plastic.... it states that I run the risk of suffocation and choking.

I have said three things about ATX on other posts. 1.- That the software will run on windows XP SP3 machines that will not meet the minimum requirements. The minimum requirements were raised because ATX spent too much time helping people with old systems last year. This year they don't want to deal with old systems. Also, if you want to have a life and want the program run fast, please install on computers that meet the minimum requirement. Have you noticed that the police cars are relatively new and well maintained? Why is that? It is because it is the tool that the police use everyday. In my case, my computer is my main tool and therefore it should be relatively new and well maintained. 2.- ATX had so many issues last year that this year it will be an excellent software package from the box. My prediction is that in 2015, whoever left will come back to ATX when they realize how good the program is this year. 3.- I didn't have any issues last year but I had a new computer. No tool bars on that computer and no "cool" programs either. This computer is only for business and I keep it clean. I hope I am right and that all of us have a nice tax season without many ATX major issues!!!!!

I use only capital letters for returns.

This is my input approach, I ask for identification and SS cards. I ask the client "Did you work last year"? If yes, let me see your W-2s. Then I ask about unemployment, lotto, casino winning, and then I ask for any other documentation they brought in. Then I move the interview about dependents and I ask other questions. When I have a better understanding of their situation, I go to my computer and input directly. If the client prepared his/her taxes with me last year, I start by saying, let me see the documents and (I ask everyone) let me see your tax return for the previous year. I have never used an interview screen and I input everything directly.

Thank you.

I normally just ask if they have any discounts. If they say no, I call the next day and if I get the same answer, I place the order. I normally wait until December 20th. I don't like when my clients ask for discounts when I don't have any available. I give them the price and I expect to be paid that amount.

Non-resident alien, no income, married to resident US Citizen

"is required" means MUST and that's the reason of my argument. I am happy with your explanation. She has the choice of MFJ, HH (if qualifies) or MFS as I stated on my original post. -

It is hard to argue with you since you have a section of the code, but someone might bring up the code where you can file MFJ if your spouse is a non-resident and you attach a signed paper to the 1040 where you state that your spouse wishes to be treated as a resident and they include their world wide income. Based on what you are saying, you have only two choices: Single or HH for the US citizen in this post, correct? -

The immigration status for the husband and how they met are irrelevant. She is married as long as the US recognizes that marriage and she can file jointly and request an ITIN for him. They have to sign a statement that he wants to be treated as a US resident for tax purposes and they both have to include their world wide income. Depending on when they got married, she can file as Head of Household (if the child was born on or before Dec 31st of the tax year or has another child from a previous relation and qualifies for HH) if she "didn't live with her spouse on the last 6 months of the tax year". The hardest way to file this return is MFS because she needs to list his non-existing ITIN and getting an ITIN without filing a return is not easy. -
I agree, Thanksgiving is a good idea.

I only use this site too.

I had a similar problem today and after trying to print several times, I check the printer and it seems this program doesn't take the operating system's default printer. The default printer for this program is PDF when you create a new client.

ATX will be the best software for 2013 and especially 2014.

ATX 2013 (Very smart move to increase minimum requirement)

Why not, the software costs more than a computer these days? -
ATX 2013 (Very smart move to increase minimum requirement)
Pacun replied to Pacun's topic in General Chat
I bet you that you will be able to install and run ATX 2013 on an XP box with 2G of RAM. The problem is that the program will be slow and you will be calling Tech support because each time you do an update, your computer will give you hard time. Some programs prior to installing query your computer about disk space, RAM and processing power but you still can install. Of course, if you want to have a life, you better instal with the recommended requirements, not the minimum. -
I guess ATX learned its lesson and decided to increase the minimum requirement for computer systems. Just by doing that, they eliminated 50% of the complaints about the "program taking a long time to load" or similar issues. That's without mentioning that they completely eliminated Windows XP 32bit which cannot even handle 4G of RAM from their support line. I had no problems last year but I had a stand alone powerful computer.

I agree with JohnH. MAS Certified copies are not allowed any more. This year we were not Acceptance Agent and two password were lost or misplaced at the IRS office. The IRS sent a letter asking for proof of identity such as password, which they had to begin with.

How can you keep up with this requirement? There are many thousands variations of these documents in the world. FORENSIC TRAINING: (for Acceptance Agent) This training must aid in identifying fraudulent identification documents. It must provide the skills to effectively recognize fraudulent documents, such as, passports, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, visas, national identification cards, military and US state ID cards.
