  1. :bday: and many more!
  2. He is just adorable! Makes me want another despite my husband and 3 cats and granddog. Keep us updated on new puppy experiences. I would ask to share puppy breath (yes, I'm one of those) but that would be tough even with Eric's expertise.
  3. Oooh, I LIKE that! And I note the 'former' boss. Sets are truly overrated anyway.
  4. Bonnie, ours is a mixed marriage, too. I am so definitely an owl it seems nearly impossible to sleep before 11 or 12 and up until 2 is not a rarity. Hubby is up at 5:15 and out on his bicycle soon after. It's a wonder we still know each other!
  5. That's my position, too. I think it was a good deal but don't feel comfortable with all the finagling and emailing to confirm who was getting what from where. I consider this year my one year bonus and will in all likelihood stick with ATX.
  6. If you aren't already involved with Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org/), you might try that. I have been amazed with things of great value to some few that are offered.
  7. Have you noticed any of them sort of sniffing the air and looking around? Could be a message there.
  8. Is it possible to provide details on the linked sheets to the specific line items? That is, explain what each expense is for each company. The federal form can be identified for specific activities; there is no possibility for PA to do that? I, too, would be loath to have to provide all stuff you said would have to follow a letter. There must be some workaround. But then, is it possible that the combined figures would exceed the "allowed amount" anyway so maybe your client should start gathering the supporting docs now...
  9. If you are using ATX, have you checked to be sure the birth date is correct? The birth year must be 1993 or later. I have transposed numbers before and nearly lost my whatever trying to find the error when it was something so simple.
  10. A great thing about a home office is not having to wear shoes (or, um, other things but we won't go there) at all or sometimes and putting them wherever it is convenient. Right now I am headed out the door for a run before it rains and the client who just called to drop off some things might very well see me in my running clothes. Hey, it isn't a pretty site but she asked for it!
  11. I haven't tried it but perhaps you could input/override the totals on a D-1 that would flow through to the D then mail in the D-1. I know it is still an override but, but...
  12. Ahhh, wouldn't it be great to have drop down boxes that solve everything, including reasons to stop swearing? And I don't just mean in tax software.
  13. TA DA!!! One last desparate effort = correct results! On Line 19 of 8606, the distribution amount from the 1099R flowed but I just input 0 that there were no "unqualified" distributions. It worked! Sometimes it really helps to read everything and not take all for granted. Such as my experience with Ohio and piggyback returns. Just because in 2001 Ohio was not allowed to be efiled unless piggybacked and in subsequent years the piggyback option was always the default, I assumed (and you all know how dangerous that can be) that the option to file alone was not available for Ohio. Good to know that over 60 isn't over the bridge - just reaalllly close. Thanks again to all.

  16. Thanks to all. Frankly, I never noticed the 1st year box. What I did just now was input the year there and in Box 5 $2500. That didn't help, either. 8606 is still required to efile and it still figures taxable income on earnings. Grrrrr... I will see about the client getting a corrected 1099R, I guess. The owe a bit of money already so a little more delay won't hurt. It isn't as if they are expecting a refund. Thanks again!
  17. Bumping this up. Anyone? I just don't see the problem and why the 8606 has to be included with the T in the 1099. I've even tried putting 0 in the taxable amount but the software insists on 8606 to efile. But I just don't believe it is taxable. What am I missing? Thanks!
  18. Tell your nephew that you were not the only one in the world without an account. I don't either and cannot imagine that I ever will. I have enough trouble keeping up with just my email! And I don't really care if I miss out on something - I'm too busy to notice and haven't enough time now to do what I need to do let alone what I want to do. Extra bonus - no virus.
  19. Client, age 61, received Roth distribution of $5316. Total basis from 1998 and 1999 is $2500. 1099R has code T, exception applies. The whole amount should be nontaxable. ATX refuses to allow efiling with 8606 but when I input distribution and basis, it shows a taxable amount of the difference. What am I doing wrong? She has met all the criteria for no tax as far as I can tell so it must be me. Thanks for help.
  20. It is so good to keep learning! Mechanically I have selected to efile federal and Ohio because in the first year of efiling (I just checked back for 2001), it was not possible to select Ohio only for submission. I feel so very dumb to not have realized in the interim that it changed. But then, I don't think there have been more than a handful of clients that would have chosen that. The first few years it was nearly arm twisting to get folks to even consider it. Hmmm, retirement still lookin' good!
  21. I will try to remember - along with the diving photos. There is a chance I have something around already as this work was primarily done for the brunch following our son's wedding last May. The guests were nearly all from out of town so I wanted to have a good sendoff. The house, in and out, never looked better before or since!
  22. We live by an acre or so of woods and have lots of trees. Our front yard is ground cover and stones in a pretty design that looks like a stream flowing. We put out baskets of flowers with a few things that bloom in the shade. No mowing at all. The back is some scraggly grass and assorted wildflowers and wild strawberries, lots of bird feeders on a plot just for that and stone patio. Truly minimal maintenance.
  23. I don't know your state but, if it is a 'piggy back' state like Ohio, you cannot efile as a stand alone. Ohio returns begin with the AGI so cannot be efiled independently. KY and some others can be efiled separately as they begin with original data.
  24. :bday: and many more!
  25. Absolutely amazing! Where do people find the time and creativity for such things? I can only imagine the bruises and worse on my body were I to undertake the treadmill 'dance!' Thanks, Catherine. It is awesome to see the genious of others.
