Thanks so much for all the great feedback. This is not intended to replace my business desktop which is made by my computer go-to guy who has made my last 5 computers. I also do not use my laptop for my tax business, just for CPR classes and church work. I am finding that my smartphone is not so easy for web browsing (old eyes) and my Kindle Fire is slow on the internet (but I love watching old tv shows when I'm on the treadmill) but my FitBit and Garmin software is on my laptop. My laptop takes a long time (all relative, isn't it?) to boot up and is less convenient than I would like. Laptop isn't as lap friendly as it used to be and these tablet PC's seem a nice compromise for fun and light duty work plus Skype. I like the lighter weight feature among others. Well, it isn't an immediate purchase so will keep all this in mind until after the season. I am thinking it would be great to have on my July dive trip to Palau and Truk lagoon, though! Thanks again, all!

I've been considering a replacement for my clunky dated laptop and pondering a tablet PC. A good friend and attorney just got and highly recommended the Microsoft Surface Pro 2. Sounds really good but not sure I am ready to spend $1000+ when laptops are so much less. But, but, it can do so much more, is lighter, more powerful, etc. Pros? Cons? Alternatives?

Accuwage & Java download problems with IE11 and Win 7
Margaret CPA in OH replied to jklcpa's topic in General Chat
I, too, have had a couple of issues with IE11. My computer guy uninstalled and reinstalled IE10. He said IE11 was, for some things, not quite ready for prime time. I trust him. He has built my last 5 computers and does semi-annual maintenance or remotes in whenever I need it. -
I have already psubmitted 2 sets of W-2's through Accuwage. Hmmmm..... Guess they are stockpiled?

GeorgeM, you can choose the default state in preferences and, if you have many new clients and want a basic set of forms, perhaps consider making a selection of those forms and saving it as Sample or Basic or something without any data. I have done that for a few years. When I input data for a new client save under that client name or number quickly to continue work. The Basic form set should still be available and you can continue working on the new one. It may or may not address your situation and may or may not save you any time. It works for me, ymmv.

Just amazing! I knew I should have watched... What makes his performance possibly even greater than Amina is that he had to have spent years and hours upon hours to reach that level of beautiful artistry. How wonderful that we mere mortals have the privilege of seeing and hearing those who share such talent and gifts!

I followed the link from someone else last week and was simply enchanted. I remember Jackie Evancho a couple of years ago, too. What gifts!

Happy to make an occasional positive contribution. I receive ever so much more than I can give... Just glad I recalled that form in one of the files I have accumulated over the years.

I have one but not sure how to send to you. I will try to attach as best I can. I haven't used it for a while but think it's still pretty complete. Scorpbasis.xls

I just checked mine and it all looks normal. I printed page 1 of Ohio IT 1040 and it looks normal, too. Maybe check your computer settings or something in preferences about increasing the size. Surely others will chime it, too, but I don't seem to have your problem.

What are you doing for E&O coverage?
Margaret CPA in OH replied to JJStephens's topic in General Chat
My coverage is the same as that of August but through AICPA. The premium is $473 and have been with them for years. Every so often I get quotes from other companies but they are always, to date, higher than what I already have. -
A great season in store... Mythbusters!

Wow! So much destruction and explosive power! Too bad I don't get Discovery on my basic cable. It does look interesting but I would keep thinking about how much waste there was - channeling my mother's voice even after all these years.- 1 reply

We know it but they don't! Or maybe the accountants were working with a fiscal year. Who knows exactly how taxation worked back then?

I hope this comes through. It was very dark so I lightened it. Seemed to fit the season for the likes of us here! Moderators, feel free to adjust, edit, etc. Beyond my skill set! Accts.pdf

Do I have a case of identity theft

Thanks, Taxed! I needed that. Will do follow up for other business forms in time. -
Do I have a case of identity theft
Margaret CPA in OH replied to Naveen Mohan from New York's topic in General Chat
Would you please post or provide details about that article and/or procedures? Just recently I have deceased client with an EIN for employee purposes. It seems I need to follow procedures to inactivate. Thanks! -
When I developed shoulder problems about 4 years ago, the massage therapist suggested changing the mouse. It fixed everything and I have been using my left hand for that since. When I was in my first accounting class I became very frustrated early on with having to put down my pencil every time I wanted to use the calculator. I trained myself to use my left hand for the calculator lo, those many years ago. I sits on my left side even now. It's actually harder for me to use a larger calculator with my right hand now, at least with any speed. Even old CPA's can be taught new tricks!

I installed my program last week without issue except that I didn't have the choice as to where as in the past. Not so cleverly, I tried to defeat that to follow my pattern of, oh, 16 years. I have always had a separate ATX folder. Today when I tried to update the program, it didn't work due to my shenanigans. I called support. The first line person didn't seem to understand my problem but kept saying she was working on it. After about 10 minutes, I politely asked her to move it up as it was pretty clear she didn't understand and there was not KB on this. She promptly did so. The best thing was, after several minutes on hold again, I had the option to receive a call back without losing my place, etc. And it worked! And I got a great tech! He remoted in, explained how things are very different for this year, reinstalled and fixed whatever needed to be fixed. All the while he was very pleasant and patient. We chatted about his tenure there. He knows some folks from Maine that are still there. He kept up with this community much of last year to learn about the issues and understands how 'tight' and supportive we are. I told him about the barbecue picnic we sent to Maine support several years ago in gratitude. He was a bit awed with that loyalty but said he could tell from his reading here. I told him to never underestimate customer loyalty for great service. Bottom line: I was very pleased. Most years I call tech support maybe once or twice. If I have to do it again, I am so happy to have the call back option and techs that understand where we have been and truly want to help.

Yes, lye soap and green stamps and boiling starch - ahh, the good ol' days - NOT!

I wasn't going to chime in on this thread but am now pulled in. Bottle top shaker, check. Frozen clothes on the line, check. Washboard, check. (What was the name of that orangeish soap used to scrub?) Drying rack, check. Darning socks, check. Ironing underwear and handkerchiefs, check. Rinsing plastic bags to reuse, check. Scrap paper, check. It goes on. But it feels so good to know I am amongst those who understand so well - no wonder we mostly get along, we're family!
