Finish it with $0 basis (which is what they provided) then call them with results. I'll bet you get their attention....

NT - FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE PELLETIER CASE
Jack from Ohio replied to kcjenkins's topic in General Chat
Maybe an explanation about how to NOT CLICK on things you don't want to read or choose not to like? Computer use consultation for such skills is available for free at most public libraries. -
Construct an extensive, exhaustive document with the processes the software and tax regs use to establish those percentages. Then when he comes in, start at the top as if you are a teacher, and make him understand every detail... I will give him 5 minutes tops.... Then make him sign at the bottom saying he understands everything on the page. (before you e-file of course)

You are correct. That IS what the regulations require. My personal and professional ethics, and the requirement of Circ. 230 are my incentives to do it the correct way. Not everyone shares my level of personal and professional ethics. Not everyone takes Circ. 230 seriously either.

Don't complain about reaping benefits for the good job you continue to do!!! We all appreciate you very much.

The topic is marked NT (FYI - NT-Not Tax). Exercise your freedoms as an American to not click on the topic and stop the inflammatory rhetoric posting. When did you become a moderator? -
I doubt he/she is a tax professional.

So that reading the IRS page would not be necessary.

At the firm, we have had 1099-Bs from several brokers with such errors. Sloppy programming and input of the program that produces the 1099-B. I think the producers of healthcare.gov went to work for investment companies...

Be sure to enter "REFUSED" in the SS# box and make sure addresses are accurate.

Personal loan. Loss is personal. Not deductible under any circumstances. She is not a loan company or a car dealer. Personal all the way. She should go get the car.

In order to get a 4868 with no dollar amounts, you must e-file it before you input any numbers. Options. Allow the numbers to stay and override the amount paid. Override all the dollar figures, print and mail the extension. Duplicate the return, remove all information and efile the 4868 Create another return with just 1040 and 4868. Input names address and SS# This will allow the 4868 to efile. Note: If you choose #3 or #4 you should change the file name to indicate extension only

Why not efile them?

I would dare to say you did not correctly prepare your parents' returns. I would like to know what software give you such a detailed explanation of the error codes?

I will take the 5th amendment....

I have successfully transmitted 2011 & 2012 returns. Going forward, we will be able to do current year and 2 past years. E-filing 2011 & 2012 State returns will depend upon whether ATX had supported MEF for that particular state. Ohio is one that I have successfully transmitted for both 2011 & 2012.

The process for obtaining an EIN is painless and does not mean that any other forms or actions will need to be taken once you have the EIN. I have had an EIN for over 10 years and I am also a sole prop with no employees.

Do you procrastinate on difficult or long returns?

Agree with Catherine. Create the 1099s and e-file them to be sure they are submitted. The IRS will charge him late filing penalties. Brought it on himself. -
Correct. Deductions can only be up to the amount of income when rented to a related person. No income = no deduction.

QB is notorious for being a system resource hog, and taking over certain administrative settings on your system. A call to ATX tech support is in order. Intuit ALWAYS puts a bunch of "trash" (not the word I want to use) on your system. I never upgrade from a download for that very reason. I always upgrade from a CD where I can custom install and stop the "trash."

Should be 20-25 minutes. It takes 15 minutes for the brain to induce REM sleep. That is where the real rest is. 25 minute power naps work wonders for me, any time of the day.

Was it an ATX tech support person that told you all those things? If so, call back and demand to speak to the top level technicians. Not all ATX tech support people are the same. Believe me. I am sending you a message.
