  1. 1,000 clients in our program. Backup file 9GB. Just about correct.
  2. When in doubt, fill one out. Can cause no harm to anyone.
  3. At our firm, following my recommendations, we have had 1 hour down time since Feb. 1, 2014. Minor instances of any of the pesky problems and the smoothest season since 2010. I do know of what I speak. Domain server and 10 workstations with as many as 8 people using the program simultaneously. Firm is open 9-9 Mon-Fri and 9-4 Sat & Sun. Results speak for themselves.
  4. The file was not created with adequate compression or protocols that the IRS will accept. All pdf creation programs are NOT created equal. This one works: http://www.dopdf.com/download.php And it is free.
  5. Reboot does not mean turn off. Choose the path you wish to follow. Make fun of my observations and recommendations. Join the ranks of those that doubt any advice developed from persons who have made an intentional effort to understand the issue, as well as current up to the minute first hand experience in the matter. Your computer skills above being a user are being clearly defined by your responses.
  6. Ok, then because other programs do not use as many system resources, you should not follow my advice. Seems logical to question a solution because no other programs require it? Just leave your systems on continuously all day and all night, it will make things much more productive. For the record, system resources have been an issue since WIN 95 for users that use programs that require real computing power. SMH
  7. The only thing that changes when you reboot, is a complete reset of WINDOWS SYSTEM RESOURCES. Do you run tens of tax preparation programs on a daily basis? Your question has no basis.
  8. Reboot your entire system every 4 hours of use. This is Windows problem of dwindling system resources.
  9. All the more reason to send her to someone else. I do not need "cute playing house family drama" in my tax practice.
  10. It is a KY requirement implemented last year.
  11. I did! Left Monday evening at 8:00 PM. Went to a luxury suite at a hotel 60 miles away and did not get back till yesterday evening at 8:00. BTW, yesterday was my 19th wedding anniversary. We ate at nice restaurants, went to a movie at an IMAX theater and were the only people there!! No phones, no computers. Did not want to come back home!!!
  12. Doctor, I have this irresistible urge to sing 'What's new, pussycat?' Ah. You're suffering from Tom Jones disease. Is that common? Well, it's not unusual.
  13. Contact tech support. Sounds like there are other issues at work on your system. If you have updated to 13.4, the backup file size problem was eliminated. Contact tech support.
  14. Send them to someone else. You DO have a conflict of interest, and a distrustful person to boot. You are better off without them.
  15. Basis = $157,000 - The amount that was added to and taxed on his W-2. Box 12 code V
  16. Tom, I just duplicated your process. When I imported back into the program, the imported file had " Copy (1) of... Filename. The program has been doing this for files with the same SS# for years. It does the same if you duplicate a return in the program, only it gives you the option to rename the duplicate return.
  17. Whenever I export, for whatever reason, I always change the name of the exported file. Then there is no confusion. This is one more reason I avoid at all costs, doing the export import between my own computers.
  18. TT is good for my business!! I am looking forward to lots of new clients who were DIY for years due to the very thing this article talks about. 2014 will be a giant train wreck for all those people trying to use TT. "If you can answer that question, you can do your own taxes!" "You will be amazed at what you can do," (Quotes from TT commercials this year.) Bring it on!! I am ready!!
  19. I'll bet you a banana split???
  20. For all those that do not think they should be issued, be ready for the CP2000's in about a year when the companies report the transactions to the IRS. From my experiences, this happens many times. The investment company does not send the 1099R to the client, but reports it to the IRS. Time will tell...
  21. I believe that anytime money is taken from a retirement account, a 1099R is required to be created and sent. I don't think there is any exception to the rule.
  22. It is available on the Vandalia site, but not fill in. I will check the Ohio site.
  23. I cannot find Vandalia tax forms in 2013 ATX. Did Vandalia decide not to play in ATX's game this year, or do I have a form update (which I just tried to address) issue? Any Ohio people?
